The sound of the screeching tires...the crushing metal, the scared expression on a long forgotten face. It was so long ago but still Summer woke in the grey dawn of morning, nearly screaming and covered in sweat. She thought that after 15 years the nightmares of that night so long ago would go away, but still it hadn't.
She sat on her bed looking out the window as things went through her mind, trying to calm herself back down. She got out of bed as her service robot brought in her breakfast and put it on her night stand. She lived alone now, if you didn't count the robot, in an apartment above a tattoo parlor behind a neon sign that read 'Ink This'. She lived there for 10 years now, two on her own after her father's death. She ran the business below, a lonely though exciting life of treating others' bodies as canvases.
She ate and headed down the stairs to open up shop. She sat behind the large oak desk in the swivel chair, watching the sun rise over the towering mixture of metal and brick buildings that made up the city now. There had been so many changes.
