Addie was unpacking boxes of clothes and sorting through them. She had just moved into a two bedroom apartment with her best friend the day before. The apartment wasn't that far from the university she was attending for free because her father was a professor there and had been since graduating from the college itself. One of the benefits is his kid, being only one daughter would get free tuition. It was one of the only reasons her mother was comfortable with her leaving out of state for college. Then again this state was home when she was a child.
Her parents had devorced ages ago, when she was eight. She could remember the beautiful beaches, the white sand, the warm summers and cruel winters. Soon as she met her friend at the airport she felt more at home than she ever had in Calfornia. Her father had encouraged her to move in with him but she didn't want to be a nuisance. He was fresh ending his second relationship, he was engaged and apparently the woman had been running around.
Addie was lucky enough to have her parents be cordial and she often saw her father a couple times through out the year, on holidays and random weekends he would fly out to Calfornia to hang out with her so while they were not extra close, they were not strangers.
Addie was happy to be away from her mother, to gain just a little freedom. She was thankful to be in college and had worked very hard in high school where she already had accumulated quite a few college credits before enrolling. She was majoring in Zooology with a minor in biology.
A few hours later her new room was complete and she was pretty satisfied with it. This could definitely be home as long as she needed to be. Her friend with bright orange hair, known as Tessa had been her friend since childhood had come in to lean on her. They were inseparable so Tessa got her family to allow her to come to this college because she would safely be living with Adam and because Adam's dad would be close, so both young girls would be alright.
"Not to shabby, think we lucked out." Her friend said grinning.
