When Trace had graduated from High School he had several options open to him. Sure he could've gone straight off to college, but he wanted to do something different, something exciting, something outside of the norm. When he had seen the ad for signing up for spending a year on exploration expeditions it seemed like fate was calling and he had immediately signed up. His head had been filled with dreams and ideas, fantasies of becoming a famous explorer, of being the real life Indiana Jones, of discovering some long lost civilisation that nobody had ever even heard of. It had all seemed absolutely perfect.
Right now though, this whole thing wasn't seeming like such a good idea. His very first expedition into a jungle and he had ended up becoming separated from the group. He had called out, but there had been no response. He had tried sitting where he was for several hours to see if anyone came back or was looking for him, but there had been no sign of anyone. Now as the hours drew on he realised that staying where he was wouldn't be a great idea. There was little in the way of shelter, he'd be exposed to the elements which wouldn't be a great idea overnight, not to mention the possible predators that might have been roaming the place.
That was why Trace now found himself wandering somewhat randomly through the jungle. He did his best to stick to going in a straight line, anything he could to avoid going round in circles.
He felt like he'd been walking for hours, though the sun was still in the sky. Trace was getting tired however, the heat was getting to him, exhausting him, dehydrating him. Fortunately though, with the last of his strength he stumbled out of the tree line and seemed to enter some kind of village. He looked up and around, not truly able to comprehend the details, but he could see what seemed to be people, buildings. He barely managed to utter out a weak "Help me...please..." before dropping to his knees and collapsing onto the ground on his back, now only able to stare groggily at the sky.
