The vacation had seemed to start out so perfectly, Lucas was on a luxury cruise with the rest of his family, his mother, his older sister, his twin sister, his younger sister and his younger brother. Their father had never been around, and their mother never really spoke about him, but things worked out fine for them. They were about a week into the cruise now, the entire family had been having fun, running around the ship, taking part in the various activities on-board, swimming, games, even just exploring the giant vessel. There had never been a dull moment, and this evening was to be no exception to that, though perhaps for a rather different reason. The storm had been worse than any that Lucas had ever seen, at first his biggest worry was just about getting seasick with the way the ship had been tossed around by the huge waves, but when the lights began to flicker and people began to panic things had changed quickly. The call went out for everyone to get to the lifeboats, fortunately there were plenty of them scattered throughout the ship, meaning that Lucas' family had a lifeboat all to themselves, all of them getting aboard quickly. Unfortunately however, their little lifeboat had been swept away in a completely different direction to the others by the waves, water washing over the family as they tried to just keep their boat above the surface.
By the morning the storm was over and the waters had settled, but the family had no idea where they were. It seemed at first like they might have been stranded in the middle of nowhere, but at least they had some kind of good luck, an island, the currents carrying them towards it, their boat gently washing up on the golden sandy beach.
"Oh man...I thought we were never gonna see land again!" Lucas practically leapt from the boat, letting out a sigh of relief. The sun was so warm on them, at least it meant his clothes were going to dry out a little after the cold ocean water had been washing over them all night. "Ok...we're gonna be ok. We just need to stay here and someone will find us eventually...." Lucas moved a little further inland as he glanced around. They would need to find food, fresh water...it seemed they would have those things in abundance. The island was a veritable tropical paradise! If they hadn't been stranded here it would've been an even better vacation spot than the cruise ship.
