Vaelia was a time mage, able to manipulate the future and the past to her benefit. This has proven lucrative over the years as Vaelia could see what normal humans could not and would be able to leverage that information for a heavy fee. Then again with the ability to manipulate time, no one would ever know that Vaelia was there behind all the unlikely victories that she manipulated.
Now Vaelia had learned of a cave that only one other person had conquered. Surely her ability to manipulate time could help her in this endeavor? Vaelia could see what was behind a door and then manipulate time to rewind back to a point where she was in a more favorable position. It was a seemingly potent combination, but the cave had bettered many travellers over time. Something Vaelia would need to keep aware of, lest she be bettered herself by the cave.
Sonja, the only one to survive the cave so far, was awaiting Vaelia as she entered. "Hello, Miss. I would normally offer a weapon but I believe you to be a practitioner of the arcane arts. I doubt a sword would do you much good in here would it?"
"However I feel I must explain this place so that you are better able to possibly survive the descent. There are 20 layers, each one potentially more difficult than the last. There are 5 doors behind me but as you progress there will be more doors to choose from. There is one door that is safe, as that was the path that I had taken through the levels of the cave. That room will be safe and may allow you to rest or recover.
If you choose poorly however you may find yourself victimized by a trap or confronted by a monster of some kind. You will need to defeat the trap or monster before you are able to move into the next layer. Simply put, survive all 20 layers and then you will join me in rare company as those who have survived this place and lived on to tell the tale. Good luck."
With her monologue finished, Sonja would step aside. Vaelia was now free to enter into the first layer of the cave unless she had more questions for Sonja. With 5 doors to choose from, which would Vaelia choose?
