When the new teacher started at school it had been Melissa who was asked by the principal to help him settle in. Apparently he had come from a rather rural area and this was his first experience of life in a big city, and in a school with more than 50 students. As a Straight A honour student Melissa had been all too happy to help, showing Howard around the school building, helping him get used to so many people being around and discreetly pointing out the known troublemakers that he would need to be aware of both in and out of class. There were many students who were more than ready to prank the new teacher after all, so better that he be prepared for it coming than caught completely by surprise.
Outside of school it turned out that Howard had moved to the same neighbourhood as Melissa, so she had been only too happy to show him around there as well, introducing him to his new neighbours and helping him get settled in. They didn't quite live next to one another, but it was close enough that they were likely to regularly see one another outside of school.
That had been about two weeks ago now and things were starting to return to normal. Melissa was no longer needed to show Howard around the school or the neighbourhood, so it was simply time to return to the usual student/teacher relationship. As far as Melissa was concerned she had just been a good pupil and a good neighbour, same as she had always been, nothing more to it.
Right now it was a Friday evening, the sun had gone down and the stars and moon were starting to come out. Unlike most people her age Melissa wasn't outside hanging out having fun on a Friday night, she was at home alone, sat at her desk in her bedroom working on her homework, along with doing her usual extra studying, the window slightly open to let in some fresh air since the night was just a little stuffy.
