"Remember to hand in your papers next monday when we convene again, and don't forget that finals are in two weeks. So studying should have already begun and be in full swing. Though I'm certain some of you will ignore me and wait until the last minute. All I have to say regarding that, is be sure you get an A, with that it mind. We're adjourned for the day."
The professor had finished wrapping up, and the students quickly filed out of the lecture hall. Most had no more classes for the day, and were desperate to either get to their dorms, or to whatever social gathering would merit their appearance that evening. The fall term was wrapping up at Dartmouth, and there was a palpable amount of tension in the air. Between term papers, finals, and whatever all might cause stress, many of the students were living on two hours of sleep and red bull. From the door exited a darker skinned girl, who walked off from the room and made her way back to the door building for the night. She, unlike some of her peers, had every intention of studying and finishing her paper so she had minimal stress by the time the finals had wrapped up.
It was a twenty minute walk back to her dorm across the sprawling campus, and the fall air was chilly to her skin. Shivering and wrapping her leather clad around tight around herself, she mustered the strength to march across the historic campus and finally to the more modern dorm building where she lived. Unlocking the door, she stepped into the main living area and set down her bag and purse. going to the tiny kitchen, she went to the fridge and grabbed a soda, before going to sit on the couch and pull out her books and lap top. "I so hate this crap." she complained to herself as she began working on a study outline, her term paper already on the first draft stage.
The young woman's name was Sofia Daniella Yolanda Garcia. The daughter of the US ambassador to Colombia, she herself was descended from great grandparents who had hailed from that South American nation. Her father's connections as an ambassador had helped secure her entry to the university. Though her grades and test scores had by no means hindered her. Already her future was being planned. Sofia was being groomed by her family to enter the legal field. Her father had been an attorney in New York before having been elevated to his position. His dream was that she would follow along and enter the profession as he had decades earlier.
Not one to disobey her family's wishes, the young latina was pre law and just a year and a half away from law school. Already she was beginning to think of that future, considering schools and what subset of the legal field she might enjoy working in. With this future goal in mind, she worked hard to ensure that she would have her pick of law schools. Virtually all of her time outside of class was spent studying and planning for the future. What little time she had left was usually spent with her dorm-mate. Or in raw occasions, her boyfriend Ricardo would travel up from Harvard to stay for the weekend. Though he was a senior and set to graduate and enter the business field. So he too had been busy of late with his finals.
After her study outlines had been completed, Sofia decided to take a break and work on her term papers later that night. Turning on the Tv, she flipped though the channels and sipped at her soda. Wondering when her dorm-mate would be back for the evening.
