The mirrored surface of CyberCore Tower, headquarters to the largest telecommunications company in the world, loomed high above the skyline of San Francisco. Instrumental in transforming the Internet into the VirtualNet, CyberCore Industries was at the forefront of virtual reality technology, and nearly everyone home in the country was equipped with one of their head tracking monitors, along with a pair of VR gloves for an interactive VR experience. Of course, third party VR devices for other "appendages" had become quite popular as well. But the world had yet to see CyberCore's latest innovation, a neural link device that could completely immerse the user into any existing virtual world, from head to toe. One lucky customer service representative had been selected to test the new device, and her hopes of increasing customer satisfaction through more personal interactions were certainly admirable.
The small, unmanned drone seemed to have no problem navigating the hallways and elevators within the apartment complex at the city's edge. It hovered smoothly to its assigned destination, dropped the package it was carrying at the foot of the door, activated the door chime, then left as smoothly as it came. Within the package was a simple-looking silver headband of sorts with no obvious markings as to its intended purpose. Fortunately, some partial instructions were included along with it:
