According to the history books, Africa was the birthplace of all life. From a small piece in it was Mesopotamia, the first civilization of man ever found by scientists, the birth place of all of humanity and the safe haven still for all of the anthros. While man had dominated the rest of the planet and tamed the wild beasts that seemed almost-human, they still ran quite wild in their home land. It was a beautiful place that was made to remind humans of how far they had come. It was a way to truly get in touch with the roots of man. And to see the feral side of anthros for yourself.
It was because of that that the Miller family had planned a long vacation in the middle of the African wilderness. The resort had been advertised as the perfect treetop adventure, large suites overlooking the great forests and just a few miles away from a good deal of attractions. There were nature trails to go hiking down and several times a day the locals would gather in small circles and talk about the indigenous wildlife, both ferals and anthro alike.
For those that wanted to pay a pretty penny, you were able to go on safari’s out in the wilderness and truly get close to the real thing. The people often paid too much for too little, as the animals had started to become shy in the latest years. Marie’s family had booked only the basic package, two separate rooms that overlooked the forest and had the ideal view of everything. From her window, she could see endless treetops and the sun hanging overhead, the day already so hot that she had sweat dewing on her skin.
“Dad,” Marie called out across her balcony to her father’s room, where her parents were talking closely and laughing at each other quietly, “I’m going down the nature trail. Don’t wait up.” He acknowledged her with a raised wine glass, his attention too focused on her mom. Good for them, they were still so in love even so many years later, but it had caused her to be… Neglected, since they loved each other more than her. But either way, they had paid the extra to bring her along, so she should be grateful for that at least.
A smile was on her lips as she started down towards the trail, pulling her long hair back into a messy bun and away from her face. She had dressed for the weather, her shorts cut so short that her pockets were visible dangling from the edge of them and her shirt nothing more than a loose tank top. She couldn’t help but admire the beauty of this place, from the deep greens to the sky overhead, though she had to admit that the heat was something that she didn’t want. She found herself already wiping her brow and she was just half a mile in, the only one on the trail at this time of day.
