Chloe Jingles glared down at the cookiegram and bit off the corner irritably. It was how they sent memos interdepartmentally in the North Pole, and this one read:

Subject: Meeting
Please report to the main office at 3:00 PM today, Dec. 24.
She drug her feet as she pulled on her curly black shoes over her red-and-white tights and tugged on the green hat. Elves wore regulation elfwear year round - it was practical and made cleaning clothes easy - but she liked to ditch the accessories when she was home.
She trudged through the snow to the workshop where the main office was. She knew why she was being called - her work hadn't been up to par all season. She tried to stay focused and get things done, really she did, but she was just so...bored. It was always the same routine with the same people, day in, day out, Christmas in, Christmas out. It wasn't that she disliked making toys - she was, after all, an elf - but she just needed something else going on, something to look forward to. A disciplinary meeting with the workshop foreman wasn't it.
She knocked on the doorframe when she got to his office.
"You wanted to see me?"
