Princess Alicia, undefeated maiden knight of the kingdom, lay coughing on the floor of the dungeon, feeling her energies being leaked away with each passing moment. She'd been so confident, so very sure that she'd succeed. She'd entered the alchemist's city to find the cure, that necessary mixture or recipe or something that would save not only her sister, but her entire kingdom. So many had fallen before Alicia's blade; she'd gained a reputation as a nearly invincible fighter for the cause of Good and Light. Surely she could handle simply entering a desolate city and locating a cure. It had sounded almost too easy.
Yet now the princess knight fought to keep from passing out as she slumped onto the dusty, dirty floor of one of the very first houses she'd explored. She'd barely entered when she'd felt something leeching away at her magical energies. Like all fighters of this realm, Alicia relied upon her life's energies to keep her upright and aid with her fighting. It translated directly into mana, which could be utilized to attack and defend and fight in general. Alicia had far more than the average supply of the stuff, which is why she often escaped battles looking none the worse for wear. Not a strand of her blonde hair had been disturbed, not a dint on the relatively skimpy armor that struggled to contain her voluptuous body. Like many female knights, Alicia wore armor that enhanced her figure, thus distracting male opponents (and some females). Her own mana would protect her more than the layers of steel and leather, though Alicia still wore those as well.
Except this place drained her of that energy. Alicia felt as weak as a kitten as she leaned against a shelf. She'd just stepped inside, her booted feet kicking up whirls of dust, and then she'd felt it. Not even a few steps in and she'd felt it. It drained and weakened and made staying upright a challenge. The knight grit her teeth, deep blue eyes flashing with determination as she pushed herself upright. A hand fell to her enchanted holy blade: Shining Flash, the royal sword. She could feel it granting her more power, power enough to step further into the house.
This was just the first. Alicia knew that if she was actually going to be able to explore further, map out the city, find what she needed to find, she was going to need to get through more than one house. She needed to find the source of this leeching, and she hoped there would be hints in the house. This meant exploring the dusty place, and she did so, channeling all her will into it.
If only she'd accepted help. A magician or a priest would've been amazing right now... except they'd all been needed back in the kingdom. Someone had to keep order with Alicia gone. She hadn't dared risk any further soldiers, simply counting on her own skills. Get in, get the cure, get out. Simple. Easy.
And now she lurched through a door, gripping the frame like a drunk and berating herself for her own overconfidence. At least she hadn't seen anything hostile...
yet.
