The sprawling grounds of the University were a bustle of activity - magically enchanted or not there was little to prevent the chaos that accompanied the start of a new year. Teachers, faculty, parents and, of course, students bustled around every corridor and pathway on their way to whatever function or task was currently next on the docket for the busy day. It was very nearly bedlam. Likely there would have been outright battles broken out between some of the mingling throng if not for the hustle-and-bustle of so much to else to do.
Perhaps the most clamour centered around the various dormitories and castles that served as student housing as new arrivals filtered in, most with a handful of servants carrying half of their useless garbage in tow. Looking out on the seething throng of (mostly) humanity Maleficar found himself rolling his eyes in disgust. Preparing spells to transport himself and his important things directly into his rooms at the top of one of the northern castle turrets had been time-consuming (not that he'd ever admit it if asked) but it had certainly proved to be a worth-while effort. The last thing he wanted to do was spend a moment among the school's common populace - or, indeed, much of the populace at all. And of course, any time he could avoid being out in direct sunlight was a bonus.
The rooms that had been assigned, more true to say they were offered, to a student like Maleficar were truly opulent. As right they should be. The dark stone of the walls, ceiling and floor were richly cut and appealed to his aesthetic without being too dark or suffocating thanks to the huge, high arch of the ceiling as well as the massive span of the wide window that overlooked the school grounds below. The rooms were all scattered with expensive carpets, throws and pillows but the obvious centerpiece was the bed. Like the rest of the room and its furnishings it seemed to be designed not for a human-sized creature but some kind of beast: an ebony wood four-poster that a king could hardly have afforded. The dark-haired senior breathed in deep and exhaled slowly - it was indeed good to see that no one of the fools who ran this useless establishment had let their incompetence bleed into fulfilling his demands. At least where it came to his living quarters. He didn't bother inspecting what appeared to be the smaller room attached.
He had not, try and fume and spit literal fire as he may, been able to avoid being assigned a roommate. Even thinking about it the term had a vile sound. Whoever it was would be in for one hell of a year, if he didn't take one look at him - at who he was - and go running for the hills.
