College was a stressful situation, which was why Anna did almost anything that she could to reduce that stress - which included spending her weekend nights drunk and with a group that included a few friends of hers. And some more people - a bunch of people in her program, a bunch who just lived in the on campus residence. Apartment A304 held her and three other girls who were in her program, and their place was party central on the weekends.

Well, most of the time. Sometimes they spent their weekends sober and working (they were all good students, regardless of recreative habits). Sometimes they went to other peoples' parties instead, and on that specific weekend in the middle of October, there was a party going on in B building. B203 was the best place to be on the weekends, a lot of people said. The boys who lived there were definitely attractive - and completely Anna's type. All of them, actually. (Not that she'd say that to anyone - she wasn't virginal but she was private about that sort of stuff.) B203 also had another reputation - one that Anna knew from personal experience.

She'd seen a lot more of one of the boy's than she'd ever expected to.

It was almost 10 when she knocked on the door to their apartment with a case of smirnoff ice coolers in one hand. Her hair was swooped to one side, flowing from pink to purple over her shoulder, and she'd done her eyelids to match even though she knew the art would just end up smeared over her face by the end of the night. (It was the only make up she had on because of that reason.) The night was warm, so she was dressed comfortably - black leggings with her favourite boots, a gray tank top under a plaid top. Her favourite heart locket necklace hung around her neck.

One of her hands was on her hip when someone opened the door, and she grinned a toothy smile to the man who opened it. "Hey! I heard we have something going on here!"

Sam had never really thought of himself as the kind of guy who'd go to parties in college. Left to his own devices, he'd much rather have spent free evenings with a smaller group of closer and more sober friends, or just playing computer games and messing around on YouTube. While he had nothing against the other guys in his suite having big groups over at night, he rarely left his single bedroom to join them.

Tonight, though, he'd been persuaded to mix up his routine. Mark, his sort of default best friend on campus by virtue of being the suite-mate he'd hung out with the most, had assured him that it would be a calmer, more low-key affair than usual. Sam had still been a little reluctant, but he couldn't deny he'd been regretting his reclusive behavior thus far in the semester. He'd come a long way from the awkward kid he'd been at the start of high school, and when college had finally come along, he'd resolved to put himself out there more right from the start. Finally deciding late was better than never, he'd agreed to stick around and have a drink or two at least.

The first knock found Sam reclining on the couch in the suite's living room in what he fancied his most stylish black leather jacket, grey t-shirt, and slim-fit blue jeans. Music played from Evan's portable speaker, something Sam didn't recognize and wasn't all that fond of (not that he had the best taste himself). He quickly glanced toward the door at the sound, pushing a strand of his neck-length dark brown hair out of the way of his rectangular glasses when it fell there with the motion. Before he could stand up to answer, Mark emerged from his bedroom and made to do so instead. "I got it," he said, gesturing for Sam to stay seated.

Seeing Anna at the door got Sam's attention again. They shared the same Writing 101 class, and while they hadn't exactly talked much outside it, Sam had to admit he'd developed a bit of a thing about her. If she was here now, it looked like his decision not to disappear into his room for the evening might have been even better than he'd expected.

He was, of course, blissfully unaware of the view she had into his bedroom when he left his blinds open.

"Yeah, you got it," Mark was saying, stepping aside to let her in. "You're the first person to show up, but come on in."

"Evening," Sam said by way of greeting, smiling and raising his bottle of Sam Adams'. Evan and Will both waved from their own seats.
