It had been a ten hour car ride, with plenty more miles to go. Bryan and his mother had been driving across the country for some sort of family function. Something very important to his mother apparently, something that Bryan still didn't seem to understand. But he got dragged along during his summer break. For some reason his father couldn't come along, and his older sister was busy taking summer classes in college. Plane tickets were too expensive, so driving was one of the cheapest options.
Bryan had just turned 17 and had only just earned his driver's license, and didn't have much experience driving long distances. So it would mainly be his poor mother doing the most of the work on this multi day trip. He mainly sat back in the passenger seat, window down partially as the wind blew through his short black hair. Brown eyes blinked lazily as he stared at his cellphone. Watching the GPS track their car was like watching paint dry. Even though he had a young handsome complexion, his face was twisted into one of boredom and unamusement. He was sort of the spitting image of his father. Except much younger and in better shape.
They had just entered the state of Texas a little while ago. Whatever music was playing on the radio that his mother had been listening to was lost on him. Glancing over at his mom he could see she was pretty tired as well. Driving ten hours would do that. If his legs felt cramped, just imagine how she felt. Despite, being tired his mother still had a cheery pretty face.
Looking out the window the sun was setting on the horizon.
"Hey Mom, should we stop some where for the night. It's starting to get dark." Bryan spoke up. Signs on the highway mentioned motels within the next few miles.
