- Since ancient times, the ruler of Varando was chosen. Lineage did not affect who could become the King, but it did affect who was the King. To become the ruler, one had to be chosen by a relic known as the King's Stone. The tone was the size of a man's fist, seemingly made of gold, and as hard as a diamond. For some reason, the rulers that were chosen by the stone - usually stronger, healthy people - did not live long afterward. Because of this, there was constant competition for the stone, several large scale battle's were fought to obtain this precious stone. However, at some point in recent history, this stone disappeared. Why? Where it is now? No one knows such things.
Currently, there is no King. The kingdom is run by a council of elders who are fighting to maintain their order within the kingdom, keep invasions at bay, and trying to preserve their own lives. The lineage of the original royal family is near impossible to trace, as there is such a large gap in the records of the family lineage. What is known, is that there are two families that have remained close to the king as advisors over the years. Each of these families claims to have ties to the original royal family, and seek to prove this in any way that they can. Each consider finding the King's stone as the highest of priorities, as they each just know that the stone will recognize the strength of their royal blood and grant them the most coveted power in the world.
And they will do this by any means necessary.
In order to attain this power each of the families has been grooming their heirs to be worthy of the stone. Each of the heirs is currently attending Tarnesia Academy, a massive school that teaches magic to any and all, despite their own capabilities of use. The rivalry of the heirs is well known throughout the school, though it must be said that is is more of a. . .one sided conflict.
The heir to the Vaonda family, a young man by the name of Eton, wasn't so interested in this rivalry or making his family the seat of power. If anything, having that much power actually scared him a little. What were they going to do with it? They were the King's advisors! In a way, they were more powerful than the king himself! Well. . .they would be if there was one. Now that the elders were running things, his family had nothing to do other than plot the downfall of their longtime rivals. That was nothing but troublesome for him. To cope with the trouble, he began to act out. He fell in with the shadier crowd here at the school, preferring to go and enjoy meaningless flings with people he knows nothing of, and indulge in the use of magic-driven hallucinogens, to help his relax and unwind.
So far as he saw things, his life was going very well right now. In fact, he as all ready to partake in more of these wonder drugs after returning to the massive school campus from home along with his personal servant. The demon played with the small, pale blue, pebble size mass in between his thumb and forefinger passively. He knew that she didn't like it when he did these things, but honestly did not care what she thought of it. So long as it was able to keep him from thinking about all of his troubles, he would continue doing them. If something else came along that worked even better than the drugs? he would go to it. That was just the way that Eton functioned.
"What does my schedule look like today," he asked, the disinterest in his voice was more than apparent.[/list:u][/list:u]
