Steven was livid. His mother was supposed to have picked up from school at three o’clock sharp like she always did, but after waiting for an hour at the school and multiple unreturned calls, Steven had to go home on his own, something that he actually hadn’t even done before. What few friends he had at school, not many given how much time he spent at home with his mother rather than socializing, had already left, leaving him to figure things out on his own. Despite his neediness and the fact that Elizabeth had always looked out for most of his needs, Steven was still a clever boy. That coupled with the fact that they only lived a short ways away meant that it wasn’t too much trouble for Steven to figure out his way home, but he grumbled and kicked rocks all the way back to vent his frustration. Normally his mother would be there to open the door for him, but luckily he had his own set of keys for emergencies just like this. Fiddling with them for a few moments before getting the right now, he slammed the door open. “MOMMY!” he yelled loudly into the empty house. “MOMMY!” he cried out again in frustration to no response. After it was abundantly clear that nobody was home, Steven closed the door behind him and locked it before he stomped his way to the room he shared with Elizabeth where he continued to fume. Given the fact that his mother was a single parent, they couldn’t exactly afford the most lavish home, but not that Steven minded. He had shared this small place with Elizabeth for a long as he could remember, and the same applied to sharing a bedroom with her.
As the clock ticked away and Steven had a silent temper tantrum in his room, the young teen slowly came to realize that being alone and without his mother perhaps wasn’t horrible after all. If she was here, she’d have made him do his homework before he could relax or they could cuddle. The fifteen year old’s eyes widened as he had this sudden revelation, and a smile appeared on his face. Stripping out of his school clothes and just leaving them on the floor, and turned on the TV. In their home at least, Steve never wore anything more than his underwear since it was the most comfortable for him, and he was comfortable enough around Elizabeth that it didn't bother him in the slightest. For the next several hours, Steven occupied himself with TV shows, movies, and playing games on the computer in their room, and when he was feeling hungry, he simply grabbed a bowl of cereal from the kitchen and ate it in bed while watching a movie he probably shouldn’t have been watching. As day turned to night and the evening dragged on without any sign of Elizabeth coming home, Steven was beginning to feel drowsy. He had since long given up trying to call his mother, and it was already rather late, he managed to get himself ready for bed, and shutting the lights off, fell asleep without his mother in bed next to him for the first time in his life. For such a spoiled, sheltered young teen, Steven managed to stay rather calm and collected while alone. Hopefully, however, his mother would be back by the morning he thought to himself as he drifted off to sleep.
