The shrill alarm escaping from the clock nestled on the bedside table woke Julianna Morris from her pleasant slumber at exactly 8:00 am. Reaching over to hit the snooze button, she rolled over and sat up, her dainty feet hanging off of the side of the bed before hopping up and heading into the bathroom. When she glanced back for a moment, she found that her husband, Richard, wasn't laying beside her. That was normal, it was a Tuesday morning and he left for work about an hour. He typically woke up two or three hours before her alarm and prepared himself for work along with taking care of a few errands on the farm. Richard had a job in the city, at least a forty-five-minute drive from where they lived, as a construction worker. He worked full-time from 7:00 in the morning to around 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening, depending on how soon it got dark. Although he was gone a majority of the day, Julianna never had a problem with staying on the farm by herself. But today she wasn't too fond of having to be here alone, with a stranger.
Last night, very late last night, a man arrived on their doorsteps asking if any work needed to be done. Such a strange request from a man they've never met before in their life and although Julianna was polite enough to not slam the door in his face, she didn't want him entering her home either. But Richard insisted that he was completely harmless, let him inside the house, and they spoke for a while before she was informed that the man would now be staying with them for a while. That was not something the woman had wanted to hear. He could be some kind of serial murderer or rapist, traveling from state to state, offering help then bludgeoning the family that became his victims. Julianna and her husband argued about the decision for a short moment before he silenced any of her arguments by saying it was final. She knew there was no need in fighting him once he had made up his mind.
They needed the help more than anything and her husband was willing to take the risk of allowing this potentially dangerous person into the comfort of their home. Richard and Julianna had inherited the farm from a deceased relative from his side of the family. She had always thought it was a terrible idea, but he didn't want to give up the land. So they moved there though neither of them knew how to maintain a farm and now they were up to their necks in daily chores that needed to be completed. Julianna quit her job at the dentist's office and decided to run the farm while Richard kept his job and kept them afloat. But with just a little of his help, it was hard of her to keep track with everything that needed to be done along with keeping their home clean and cooking. And though her height was an advantage, standing at 5'8, some of the work was too much for her small frame to handle without concern of injury in case she needed to move around something heavy. She had asked him about hiring some help, but he refused, claiming they didn't have enough money yet he allowed a potentially dangerous individual to work for practically free. Julianna would have rather sold the land than be placed in this predict, but it wasn't up to her. Their financial struggles and the stress of their predicament were causing a rift in their marriage and hopefully this would be a solution.
After brushing her teeth and running cool water over her face, she pulled her golden blonde locks behind her ear and tied her hair with an elastic band and brushed her bangs aside to move her hair out of her tired, deep brown eyes. She then tugged on a pair of dark blue jeans that accentuated her lean legs and gentle curves, a loose fitted white t-shirt, and a pair of heavy duty boots. Climbing down the stairs, she passed by the living room and kitchen to travel further down the hall until she reached on of the doors where the spare bedroom was located. Knocking lightly, she patiently waited for a response. It was earlier so she hoped he wouldn't mind, but Julianna needed to show him a couple of things, make sure he knew what tasks needed to be completed. Richard usually left her a note reminding her of all the things that were to be accomplished for the day, but she would be passing this information onto their guest.
