For the longest time, the Carter Family Foundation Charity Ball was one of the highlights of the high society scene in Chicago. One of the most exclusive events of the season, tickets were nigh impossible to come by. One needed to be a friend, business associate or Carter Family member to attend. However, with the passing of the Carter matriarch, Millicent, the Chicago scene had lost one of their most prized members, and events. In the two years since, many lamented the fact that it had become defunct.

Until, that is, the youngest Carter and heir apparent took over the Foundation. A tenured faculty member at Chicago's Cook County General Hospital, Doctor John Truman Carter III had, in one fell swoop, resurrected the event. Invitees were delighted at seeing the ornate invitations in their mailboxes, as it heralded the return of the celebrated ball. None was more excited to see the invitation than Crystal Lynd.

A partner at the prestigious lawfirm of Crane, Poole and Schmidt's Chicago office, Crystal's name was known to many in the high society scene. The daughter of a prestigious lawyer, Crystal was well on her way to surpassing her father's legacy. Having graduated magna cum laude from the Yale School of Law, Crystal quickly rose through the ranks of her father's lawfirm. When she made partner at Lynd, Strauss and Lynn, Crystal was visited by none other than Shirley Schmidt and offered a similar position with her current firm. Though Crystal leapt at the chance, she still occasionally feels bad about abandoning her father's lawfirm.

Physically, Crystal Lynd is a penultimate vision of beauty. While she was only slightly above average height at 5'9", she frequently enhanced that with heels, never wearing less than a 4 inch heel. Her hair was a rich crimson hue some claimed came from a bottle, though it was, indeed, natural. Her eyes were a stunning shade of emerald, a beautiful contrast to her hair. While she often had a hard look to her, friends and family knew that emerald glance had a softer side. However rarely it came out, it was always a welcome sight, warm and friendly and slightly flirtatious.

When one's gaze inevitably drifted down, it was unto the body of a Greek goddess. Her breasts were the most prominent feature, an impressive 40DD that was not completely natural. Crystal had had enhancement surgery, though it was not exactly something she admitted to voluntarily. She had an athletic figure, slim but toned from a borderline obsessive workout routine. Which earned her many appreciative glances, and some less appreciated leers. She had to restrain herself from slapping every person she caught staring at either her well endowed bust or toned and shapely rear. Though she had perfected a very intimidating glare, which made most back down almost instantly.

On the day of the ball, Crystal went through an exhaustive routine of preparation. Starting with a noon visit to one of her favorite day spas, getting both a pedicure and a manicure, as well as a facial. After that, Crystal has a visit with her hairdresser. Her stylist was an artist, but finicky and a bit obsessive. As such, what should have only taken an hour ended up taking two. But, when he was done, Crystal's hair was immaculately coiffed, tight ringlets tied into a loose bun. Next, Crystal stopped at her seamstress, who was making alterations to a dress Crystal had purchased especially for this event.

With dress in hand, Crystal returned home to her loft apartment. Located in Chicago's Gold Coast, it was an opulent apartment in an exclusive and much sought after building. Walking in the door, Crystal dropped her purse onto the couch and headed toward her bedroom. She gingerly placed the dress on the bed before stripping out of her clothes. A clear, plastic shower cap went over her elegantly coiffed hair and she jumped into the shower. Crystal made sure not to linger overly long in the luxurious, hot spray, keeping an eye on the clock as the hour approached.

Fully showered, Crystal towered off, making sure her face was dry first. Towel wrapped around her, she began the arduous process of applying her makeup. While she didn't require much, she was fairly meticulous in its application, wanting it to appear flawless. Thus, she took her time painting her eyelids a blend of lilac and sky blue, blending the colors seamlessly. A light dusting of blush gave her cheeks a rosiness it lacked. Crystal finished off with a lipstick a crimson color just one shade lighter than her hair.

Her makeup complete, she let the towel fall to the floor and walked into her bedroom. Lifting the dress, she smiled as she perused the alterations that had been done. The dress had initially been adorned with cheaper, duller beads and fake gemstones. However, Crystal had paid a mint to have her seamstress remove the fake pieces and replace them. Rather than the plastic or beaded appliques that draped across the open back of the dress, Crystal had had her seamstress replace them with 24 karat white gold chains, adorned with half karat diamonds, emeralds and onyx gemstones. Some of the adorning gems were larger, a full karat or more. In all, it was a stunning display of wealth that cost Crystal almost 6 figures. However, the end result was as stunning as she had imagined. Crystal knew she would be the envy of all in attendance.

Before donning the dress, Crystal put on a pair of black, thong panties. She then pulled on a pair of black, lace trimmed, thigh high stockings. Next, she pulled on a black, lace trimmed garter belt and attached the black garters to the lace of her stockings. Finally, she took special care in donning the extravagant dress, making sure the neckline didn't disturb or muss her hair. When she was done, Crystal looked as if she had been poured into the dress, so tightly did it cling to her figure. The sleeveless deign coupled with a sophisticated embellished high neck collar lent a delicate grace, the sheer open back masked by the white gold chains and gemstones. The appeal of the gown did not stop there, the sweeping train swirling around her feet. The dress also had a slit that came up above one knee, exposing the occasional flash of the lace-topped thigh-high stockings she is wearing. Added in were a pair of elbow length red gloves that matched the color of the dress.

Finally,Crystal went to her jewelry box and pulled out a gold necklace she'd had specially made for her. The pendant was a key wrought of 24 karat gold which her friends joked was the key to her heart. Adorned with ring of jade and 2 half karat emeralds, it was a beautiful addition to her outfit. As well, she donned a pair of ornate earrings. The 24 karat gold filigree wrapped around a 3/4 karat emerald and was shaped like a high heeled boot, the sole of which was shot through with alternating eighth karat emeralds and diamonds.

All in all, Crystal was sure she would be the best looking woman in the room. As an afterthought, Crystal grabbed a pair of lacquered needles that appeared to have several emeralds dangling off the head. She placed them through the loose bun, to make it appear as if they were holding it in place. She pulled on a pair of 4 inch heels, wrapping the strap around her ankle to secure them in place.

A glance out the window showed the limo service she had ordered the previous day had arrived, the black stretch vehicle waiting outside the front door. Crystal gathered her purse and walked out the door, taking the elevator to the foyer. The doorman's jaw dropped as he got a look at Crystal, which made her blush as he held the door for her. Undoubtedly, he would be staring at her toned behind as she walked away.

As she slid into the leather seat inside the limo, Crystal smiled. She was always amazed at the spacious nature of the limos she'd ridden in, and this one was as spacious as the rest. The partition between the cabin and driver was down. "I'm taking you to the W Hotel-City Center, correct?" the driver asked, turning to glance at Crystal. She nodded, giving him a regal stare almost daring him to ogle her. However, he nodded and turned back, pulling away from her apartment building. The ride was smooth and fairly quick, traffic being relatively light.

Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, the W Hotel-City Center was one of many towering edifices lining the streets. The front of the building was lit up, purple spotlights illuminating the exterior of the building. As the limo pulled up to the curb, a valet stepped forward and opened the door for Crystal. The driver turned once more to face her as best he could. "What time should I return, ma'am?"

"Tomorrow afternoon. I have a room for the night, in case I drink too much. Say around 1 pm." With that, Crystal slid along the bench seat and out the door. A slew of photographers were there to greet her, taking pictures of some of the other guests invited to the ball. She gracefully allowed herself to be photographed as she walked in the door, hearing the murmurs following behind her as her heels clicked on the concrete sidewalk. The doors were opened by a pair of valets and Crystal stepped inside.

Checking into her room took only a few minutes and she was handed a pair of key cards, which were promptly deposited into her purse. That done, Crystal walked through the ornate entry hall, following some well dressed people to the Grand ballroom. The name sufficed, as it was an enormous and extravagant room, decorated in modern Victorian style. A quartet of rather ostentatious chandeliers hung from the ceilings, partially recessed into the ceiling. Round tables huddled against the walls, spaced evenly across the room while providing ample space to walk and mingle about. Each table was decorated with an a rather florid and ornate floral centerpiece and an array of elaborate place settings. In all, the ballroom was decorated in an extravagant fashion.

The people mingling about were also rather extravagant, designer gowns and tuxedos seemed to dominate, with a few muted, but hideously expensive suits breaking up some of the similarities. In a room where everyone was doing their best to shine, Crystal was the most radiant. It was as if the sun had entered amidst a room full of candles. Heads turned and voices murmured in her wake.

Before she got even halfway across the room to her assigned table, Crystal was stopped by several people, asking about her dress or her jewelry. She smiled at them all, answering their questions politely. The only time she was happy to be stopped was when a few of her closer acquaintances came up to her, almost dragging another woman along in their wake.

"Crystal! We've been looking for you!" the pair cried in delight. "You look positively stunning tonight! Anyways, we couldn't help but notice that you're here alone. How fortunate for you that we are here to solve that problem. We'd like to introduce you to our new friend." Their words had put Crystal on guard immediately. These two were always trying to set her up on dates with their female friends ever since she had made her preference known.

As the woman stepped forward, Crystal had to withhold the gasp that threatened to escape. Unbeknownst to her close acquaintances, she knew the woman. More intimately than she knew anyone else in that ballroom. "Crystal, this is..."

"Jasmine Clark," Crystal said, finishing their sentence for them. She felt the tension between them mount as she began to remember the last time she'd seen the other woman. She decided to stretch out the moment just long enough to feel awkward before smiling widely and leaning forward to kiss the other woman on the cheek. "How long has it been? I've missed seeing you!"

"Oh my goodness!" Was Jasmines reaction to receiving the letter in the mail that she had been invited to the Carter Family Foundation Charity Ball. Jasmine had thought the Ball was lost forever with the death of Millicent. The news of her passing was heartbreaking to the brunette and volunteering at local hospitals just wasn't the same without her. Jasmine had earned a friendship with Millicent and the two would volunteer to read to children at the hospitals around the Chicago area. It was one thing to donate money, which Jasmine had, but it was another to get up close and personal with children who had suffered abuse or were stricken with disease. Jasmine knew all too well what it was like to be struck down by a disease. As of the current date she was cancer free for two years, diagnosed when she was 28 years old and it took her three years to rid herself of the disease. Jasmine was blessed that the chemo treatments took and cured her, if not then the doctors suggested they take her breasts, full amputation and Jasmine did not want any part of that.

The weeks leading up to the famed event had Jasmine juggling her time between work, running a multimillion dollar company and trying to figure out what all she needed in order to look fantastic at the Ball. While on a business trip in Los Angele's California she had actually picked up a stunning choker style necklace that would go great with the dress she had picked out for the ball. The dress was black with lace print on the back and sides, able to show Jasmines tan skin through it. Though the front did cover up the tattoo on Jasmines chest she really didn't mind it. As long as the dress did not cover up the tattoo on her wrist, a tattoo of the pink breast cancer ribbon with the word survivor written in the middle. Jasmine had the dress, the necklace and matching earrings that formed a diamond shape and of course they were made of diamonds. The hard part for the stunning brunette was to find the perfect hairstyle. Such a task took her days and hundreds of suggestions from friends and her mother.

The week of the big event was a free week for Jasmine, for she had taken her vacation that week so she wouldn't be stressing over work and getting ready for the Ball. Jasmine had spent her time that week getting her dressed hemmed up perfectly so it was tight against her athletic body. Jasmine had always been a fitness freak, ever since she was a young girl and it showed. The bombshell brunette was toned from her toes to her ears, her long smooth legs her favorite part of her body. She had an hour glass figure and due to her flat, muscular stomach with a borderline six pack, her breasts popped all that much more. Jasmines favorite part of the dress was the large slit on the left side, she refused to wear stockings and instead chose to show off her legs. To say Jasmine was a little excited for the Ball was an understatement, she was giddy like a school girl, or so she thought.

The day of the Ball had Jasmine scrambling all around her house a few miles outside of the city. When Jasmine had landed the job of Chief Financial Officer of Global Medical it came with a large signing bonus and being 25 and only out of school for a year she had a big decision to make. Either find a nice apartment in the city or have a house built on the outskirts. Jasmine chose the outskirts and it took a year for her house to be built. She was happy with it, she had to be since it was her own design. "Now calm down, we've got this handled." Jasmines mother had told her as she sat the brunette down in a chair in the kitchen. Jasmine was dressed in matching laced bra and thong as her mother had leaned down and grabbed her chin. "Calm down and let Chelsea do your hair. I will ready your dress, lay out your jewelry and perfume. I will also have your shoes next to your dress. So relax, momma is gonna take care of you." Jasmine could just nod while her mother had went to her master bedroom to do as she told the brunette.

"Okay crazy woman, relax or I'm gonna end up messing this up." Chelsea had told Jasmine as she began to do her hair. Sitting in the chair had Jasmine reflecting over how she got to this moment. She was 33 years old, the CFO of a major corporation since the age of 25 and a cancer survivor. She has had a roller coaster of a life and though she was single, she has never absolutely been alone. She always had her mother to rely on, her father out of the picture since she was an infant. She had a large house that was paid for, a four car garage filled with nice vehicles. Though Jasmine was missing one thing, and that was companionship. She had had a few girlfriends over the years, but nothing serious and sometimes they didn't last that long after she revealing she had a penis between her legs. Jasmine had been born with both female and male genitals. Behind her testicles was a pussy, it was a weird concept to wrap around most peoples heads but Jasmine embraced the extra body part. Thinking of her extra part had made Jasmine look down and just snicker as her cock was barely held within her thong. She would have to tuck it away before she got fully dressed.

"Okay I have everything set in the bedroom. Now hold still and I will apply your makeup." Jasmines mother told the brunette when she had returned to the kitchen. Jasmine had just nodded in response as she held perfectly still while her mother and bestfriend worked on her as if she were a fancy sports car. Though, if Jasmine was compared to a fancy sports car she really couldn't complain since she owned two of them. "Your hair is just about done." Chelsea had informer Jasmine after an hour of fiddling around with it. "These black roses are gorgeous, I'm glad my florist could find them for you. I liked the pink ones but the black really fits the dress you picked out." Chelsea kept speaking as she had finished with Jasmines hair and the brunette stood up. "Thank you ladies. Let me go finish and I will come out and twirl for you all." The brunette had hurried to the bedroom and stood in front of her full sized mirror as she continued to get ready for the Ball. Slipping on her dress then her jewelry, careful not to mess her hair in the process. Carefully Jasmine tucked her cock away and smoothed out her dress, doing a twirl for herself before she had sat down to put on her two inch heals. "I look like a giant." Jasmine had whispered to herself since the heals made her a 6'3 behemoth.

"Be brutally honest." Jasmine had told her mother and Chelsea as she walked down the hall and did a twirl for the two when she stepped into the living room. "Could use cleavage, I should have went dress shopping with you." Chelsea had teased Jasmine and that teasing earned a roll of the eyes from Jasmine. "If I took you I'd show up at the Ball dressed in a loin cloth." Jasmine teased her friend back. "Seriously though, you look stunning and absolutely gorgeous." Chelsea had added before taking out her cell phone and snapping a few pictures. "Facebook is gonna love you." Jasmines mother was speechless as she had stared at Jasmine, "Two years ago I had almost lost you to cancer and now here you are going to the biggest event in years." Jasmine had to contain her emotions as her mother had let hers show and tears welled up in the mothers eyes. "We can cry together later, I don't have time for doing my makeup again." Jasmine had joked as she walked over and hugged her mother.

After she had snatched up her purse the busty bombshell made her way to her garage. "Lock up my house when you two leave." Jasmine told the two ladies before grabbing the keys to her black Lamborghini. A few years ago Jasmine would have never bought such a vehicle, but her brush with potential death taught her to enjoy her money. She had worked hard for it and was still work a nice 12 million dollars with investments to raise her net worth to about 25 million. Plus, it's not like you could just show up to an event this important driving a Honda. Once she had got inside the car Jasmine started the ignition and backed out of her garage. Her driveway wrapped around the house so she had put the car into drive and drove around her house before hitting the main road.

The drive to the Ball was calm and when she had reached the city she was met with minor traffic. The police were doing a bang up job directing traffic and eventually Jasmine found herself in front of the W Hotel-City Center. Jasmines door had been opened by a valet and she left the keys in the car as she was escorted to the door. With her car taken to the garage Jasmine had finally arrived and walked inside. She was all smiles as she mingled with friends from the local hospitals where she did most of her work. Her job was to sell these hospitals the equipment they needed and at a price that them and her company could be comfortable with. Jasmine had made some very powerful friends over her eight years as the CFO and it showed as these said powerful people came up to her just to chat and be merry.

"Uh oh, here comes trouble." Jasmine had said as two of her good friends from Chicago's Cook County General Hospital walked over to her. They were also good friends of Doctor John Truman Carter III, the one who had reopened the Ball. "Come, you have to meet someone." Jasmine was instantly on guard since the last person that Jack and Mary had tried to set her up with was a bit loony. Jasmine had to change her cell number and was close to getting a restraining order. Though when Jasmine was dragged over to a woman in a red dress she knew who the woman was and stopped in front of her.

"Crystal Lynd." Jasmine had said before being greeted with a kiss on the cheek. "Oh it's been about six years I believe." Jasmine remembers Crystal and the mutual break up. Jasmine was 24 when she had met Crystal and the two dated for two years when they came to a mutual understanding that their relationship wasn't working out. It was a mature decision from the both of them and the two had parted ways, never to see each other again until today. "How have you been? You look absolutely stunning. Sort of putting me to shame actually." Jasmine had commented before reaching for a glass of champagne as a waited brought a tray over. With one hand she held a glass and with her free hand she had grabbed another for her ex. "Care to share a toast?" Jasmine asked while handing the glass to Crystal. "To two gorgeous women at the most prestigious event in Chicago." It was a bit of a lame toast, but Jasmine was never good at toasting anything, not even bread.

Crystal accepted the glass of champagne from Jasmine and smiled at the woman's toast. She'd never been good at giving such salutations, and always made Crystal giggle at the mock awkwardness. She raised her glass and took a quick sip. "Thank you for the compliment, Jasmine. I must say, your own dress is quite exquisite as well."

Crystal took a moment to gaze upon her ex. What had, at first glance, appeared to be a rather plain, black dress (albeit one that hugged Jasmine's body rather deliciously) from one angle became something fabulous from the other side. The dress had a serpentine cutout on the right side and was held together by a netting of black sheer material shot through with what looked like either an ivy or floral pattern. Crystal couldn't be sure which. When Jasmine turned to greet another socialite, Crystal could see that Jasmine's entire back was covered in the same sheer black material with the same ivy or floral design. It was elegant and demure, while hinting at the supple flesh hidden beneath. It was certainly more revealing than a fair amount of the other dresses worn in the room. However, as stunningly beautiful as Jasmine looked in her dress, she still paled in comparison to Crystal and her dress. While the crimson haired woman was used to such scrutiny in the courtroom, it was a completely different feeling in a setting like this.

Crystal smiled and held her glass up. "I suppose it's my turn. 'Here’s to a sweetheart, a bottle, and a friend. The first beautiful, the second full, the last ever faithful.' L'Chaim." And with that, she took another sip from her glass, smiling at the look her acquaintances were giving her. It was always amusing to see the look of surprise in some people's faces wheen Crystal spoke so eloquently. It was as if the person expected Crystal to be a trophy wife or something, there for adornment and little else. Even with her moderate fame as a lawyer, she was still amused by the assumptions most people made looking at her. It was an asset to her, being underestimated as she was.

"So, Jasmine. A little bird told me you were recently named CFO at Global Medical. I believe congratulations are in order. I was presently surprised to hear the news," Crystal said, taking a sip from her champagne flute. "It's about time someone recognized your obvious talents."

Crystal saw what she interpreted as mild surprise on Jasmine's face. Obviously, the woman hadn't expected a former lover to keep tabs." Don't be so surprised, dear. I've had dealings with Global Medical in the past while working in my father's lawfirm. The former CFO was ill equipped for the position and rather reckless in his accounting. Lest we forget the 20 million dollar settlement he blundered by admitting to bilking my clients. Really, it was past time he retired, and I was extremely pleased to see you appointed."

Another sip from her champagne flute and Crystal watched as her two acquaintances slowly backed away, their mission to hook the two women up a success. With a slight shake of her head, Crystal gestured at the pair. "So, how many other women did those two try to hook you up with before me? I swear, those two are incorrigible. The last woman they tried to hook me up with was an emotional disaster, having just divorced her ex. She made the mistake of voicing a curiosity in front of those two. Ugh."

Another gesture from Crystal, this time to a nearby table. "So, do you mind if we sit and catch up for a bit? These heels are killing me, and my neck will start to hurt if I keep having to crane it upwards to look you in the eye." The crimson haired woman giggled at her lame joke before settling into one of the chairs. "Other than the job, how have you been? Are you seeing anyone?" Crystal's tone was light, but there was a definite tone of curiosity hidden beneath the surface. She knew Jasmine would pick up on it, and hoped the woman didn't misinterpret it.

Jasmine had been a bit jealous of her exes toast, it was so much better than hers though she had always admitted to being a horrible toaster. "A little birdie told you huh? I hate to be the person to tell you, but I was appointed CFO almost eight years ago. We ended our relationship about four months after I got CFO, though I did keep it on the down low. My predecessor had been dabbling in some not so friendly transactions with some not so friendly people. He was forced to step down and when he lost everything he apparently went into hiding. He was an old man who pushed too hard and in the end it all came back to bite him in the ass. So in order to protect myself I held back all announcements of me getting the position until the word had spread to the not so friendly people that there was a new CFO and the former had made a run for it." It was a horrible story but Jasmine had made sure the rumors went around the city that a new CFO was appointed and eventually the press released the information for all the public. "I was sort of behind the scenes for the first year, then it was made public that I was appointed to CFO. With you being a lawyer you can underst3and that the underground finds out about things before the media does. So we played that to our advantage and eventually I was in the clear as my predecessor made a run for it." Jasmine just shrugged while taking the glass to her lips and sipping lightly.

Jasmine nodded as she followed Crystal to a table and had sat down with her former lover. "Oh those two? Oh man, I stopped letting them hook me up after the last blind date. The date was fine and all but later that night I found out that the she they had set me up with ended up being a he. But that really wasn't the issue, I mean it was an issue since that's the kind of thing you should really tell someone before the date. But he still had his penis, and I'm strictly lesbian. If he had his man parts inside out and made the full transformation then I could have dealt with that. He turned out to be a liar though, his job and his financial situation was all a lie that I found out after doing some research. He was actually a pizza delivery boy with a criminal record." Jasmine just sighed while she picked up her glass and took another sip. "So I told them no more blind dates unless I get a background check on them, the word is full of weird people, though I'm sure you know more about that than I do. I can only imagine the type of people you deal with or hear stories about." To be honest Jasmine had no feelings for Crystal anymore, it was eight years ago that the two broke up and it was like meeting the redhead for the first time again. Though the reason for their break up still lingers and Jasmine will address that at a later time.

When Crystal asks what Jasmine had been up to since they split, it took her a minute to think about everything that has happened over the last eight years. "I started living..." Jasmine had said when she put it all together in her head. "When I got the CFO position I worked my ass off, it took some major dedication to turn that company around. I'll be honest, Global Medical was about to go under because the CFO before me was making some poor decisions. As you know my job is to oversee the purchases of smaller companies and to pretty much manage the corporations money. He was not only approving anything that came across his desk, but he was also stealing." Jasmine had sighed as she thought back to the late nights she spent trying to fix the company.

"Unfortunately a lot of people were fired because we had to down size for a while. It was two years after I got hired that the company started posting positive quarterly numbers. Another year after that we finally reached our former glory." A sense of pride could be seen on Jasmines face when she had ended her last statement, it was a milestone in her life that she was most proud of. "I remember taking a week off of work so I could sit at home and hand write offer letters for former employees that were laid off. I probably wrote over 150 letters to those who I thought deserved to come back to work. A majority of those did come back, and I got some letters back with some kind thank yous but they declined. I'm proud of what I do and it translates down into the people below me." With that Jasmine was done talking about her work, she was there to have fun and the two could talk about work any other time.

"On a low note in my life, I am a cancer survivor. At the age of 28 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and finally after three long years I was cured of it. I was about two chemo treatments away from losing my breasts. So I was elated when the doctor told me that it was gone." The brunette didn't like talking about that chapter in her life, though she did use that experience to help others with the disease. "Now I spend a few hours a week at the hospitals reading to kids, I will sit in on their chemo treatments, especially if their parents are unable to make it or are running late. I do a lot of volunteering actually, surviving something like cancer really gets you to open your eyes and enjoy life." Jasmine smiled at Crystal before finishing the glass in front of her.

"So within the last couple years I have purchased two Lamborghini's, a 1965 Shelby Mustang and BMW M3. I have a house just outside of the city, they're all parked there. I love machines and even tinker on the BMW and Mustang a little." Jasmine was done talking about herself, now she wanted to know what her ex was up to, being a lawyer of her caliber had to have some stories. "Oh! And no, I am not seeing anyone at the moment. I'm at that age now where I'm looking for that person to grow old with. Flings are fun, but I need substance and as shallow as it sounds, I need someone on my social standing. People don't understand just how hard it is for persons such as us to keep our high status. Not just within our careers but with our personal lives as well, I need someone who can understand my work schedule and be fine with not seeing me all the time." Jasmine finally ends with that before clasping her hands in front of her.

"So, what have you been up to for the last eight years? Surely you have some exciting stories to tell." The fit brunette sat back in her chair, her hands on her lap as she awaited her ex to take over the conversation.

The confusion on Jasmine's face was plain as Crystal spoke of the woman's promotion. Clearly, Crystal was operating on outdated information, if the woman had been in the position for 8 years. She'd just heard about the transition a few months prior, and her sources were usually on the cutting edge when it came to information like that. To be this far out of the loop was disconcerting, to say the least. "You're company's PR firm is good. There have been absolutely no leaks of this news. I mean, my own sources are first rate, and we didn't catch wind of this until recently. I had thought that the former CFO had to have either come to his senses, or been replaced. Come to think if it, we did hear about how the CFO was replaced a few years ago. But, we've never been able to find out who took over before a few months ago. Your PR firm deserves a bonus for keeping this that far under wraps."

Settling into a seat at the table, Crystal took a sip from her champagne. She giggled as she listened to Jasmine's story, though a part of her wanted to bring up Jasmine's own anatomy. However, she knew it was neither the time, nor the place and would have been an affront to the woman before her. Instead, Crystal decided to regale Jasmine with her own story. "I should take a page from your book. Usually, I decline most of the offers they make to set me up. I decided to take a risk about a month ago. Talk about disasters. The woman they set me up with was charming and witty at first. But gods above, was she possessive. After one date, the woman would not stop texting me and trying to set up another date. Calling me her girlfriend and telling me how much she loved me. It was insane. I actually had someone ask me how the sex between us was. When I told that person we'd never had sex, they said that this woman was spreading lies and rumors about me and our supposed relationship. I had to file a restraining order to get her to stop. And then, her sister starts in on me, like I'm the bad guy. Yeah, I'm never letting them set me up again."

Crystal was about to regale Jasmine with some war stories from her time in the trenches as a lawyer, but thought better of it. After all, it'd been so long, and so much had changed since they'd broken up. Crystal didn't know if the Jasmine before her would be as amused by her stories as the Jasmine of the past would have been. So rather than talk about her job, Crystal had asked about how Jasmine had been. The woman had been busy, apparently, with the job. However, when she mentioned the cancer, Crystal's hand flew to her mouth in shock. She'd had no idea. "Breast cancer? Oh my god. That must have been so terrifying. And to have been so close to a radical mastectomy? I'm amazed you have such a positive attitude about it all. I couldn't even imagine having to go through that kind of fight. But, you're okay now, yes? Cancer free and everything?"

Crystal took a sip from her champagne before continuing. "And I think it's admirable that you take time from your no doubt busy weeks to visit hospitals and spend time with lonely children. Not many would have the courage or fortitude to face cancer again after having stared it down and beaten it. I don't think I could. Being reminded of one's own mortality must be a humbling experience. I'm both fortunate and unfortunate enough to have never experienced such a thing. I won't even begin to try and compare my own experiences to yours."

Crystal didn't mind listening as Jasmine flaunted her wealth, albeit in a muted fashion. In a group such as this, she'd have been surprised if the subject hadn't come up. It was just too easy to want to brag about owning a high end sports car or your latest renovations to your mansion. Having grown up, Crystal often fantasized about being able to say something about her summer and winter home. Now that she could, she found it less satisfying than she'd imagined. Her clients not having such fabulous wealth, they resented any mention of such.

Crystal was much more interested as Jasmine began talking again about her love life. The crimson haired woman found herself agreeing with some of the sentiments Jasmine had. It was difficult dating someone outside her social class. Middle class women had no idea what was required to maintain such a lofty status. "I know exactly what you mean. My last ex was jealous of the fact that I travelled as much as I do for my job. She seemed to think that a lawyer would stay in the same town and only work cases there. However, my lawfirm is a prestigious and global firm, and I am required to travel to take on cases in places like Boston or New York. Hell, I had a case a year ago in London. I was there for 6 months working that case and at trial. My ex couldn't keep up."

Draining the dress of champagne from her flute, Crystal smiled at Jasmine. She was surprised at how easily the two had fallen back into old conversation patterns. It was one of the things they never had a problem with in their relationship. They'd been able to talk and understand one another without anything taken out of context or misconstrued. "So, what have I been up to. Well, I am working for a new firm. When we broke up, I was up for partner at my dad's firm, Lynd, Strauss and Lyon. However, I was approached by none other than Shirley Schmidt and offered a similar position with greater pay at Crane, Poole and Schmidt Chicago. Let me tell you, working for them is so different than working for my dad. The clientele is just so different."

Crystak flagged down a passing server. "Excuse me. Can I get a wine list? Thank you." The server nodded and walked away. "Anyhow, let me give an example. My most recent case involved a man accused of murder in the state of Texas. Nothing new there. However, the case was weird. The man was impaired, mentally. I don't think he had an IQ over 75. Which is below federal regulations for the death penalty. I was called in to appeal to the High Court in Dallas. Did you know that Texas doesn't have a Supreme Court? I was flabbergasted! Anyhow, after one of my more impassioned monologues, the court dismissed me and my client. A day later, the chief justice hit me up, propositioning me for sex. Can you believe that shit? If it hadn't been for that, some poor, mentally handicapped man would have been put to death. I don't think I'll be going back to Texas any time soon."

Crystal took the wine list from the server as soon as she returned, perusing the selection. "Thank the gods. You still have it. Can I get a bottle of the Rutherford Hill Merlot? The 2002 vintage. Their best year, in my opinion. Oh, and a pair of glasses?" Crystal giggled as the server walked away. "Hope you don't mind. You know how much I love a good bottle of wine. Anyhow, to answer an unasked question. Yes, I, too, am currently single. I've come to the epiphany that I just suck at choosing people to date. Ever since we broke up, it's just been a string of bad dates, gold diggers and egomaniacs. The closest I've had to a normal relationship was with a doctor who understood my schedule, as her own was just as hectic. Things were great until she met an EMT. The shared medical background meant I had little left to offer her, and the last I heard, she's now Chief of Emergency Medicine at County General. I wonder how Kerry is doing now."

Crystal sat back, lost in thought for a moment. Up until that moment, she hadn't thought about how much of a mess her love life had become. Between her job and social calender, she had a lot to keep her busy, and didn't have the time to reflect she'd one had. "Wow. I didn't realize how fucked up my love life was until just now. It's weird. Looking at my exes and the traits they had that I'd fallen for, I'm surprised I hadn't seen it sooner." Crystal looked up and gazed into Jasmine's blue eyes. "Ariana had similar eyes to you. Gina had your hair and happy-go-lucky attitude. Kerry had your drive and figure. And Helena had your heart and charisma. Funny, I didn't realize how much our breakup had affected me until now. Weird, huh?"

Jasmine laughed lightly at the mention of her PR department doing a great job at hiding the hiring of her new position, in fact they did get a bonus for their job well done. "They did indeed get a bonus for their work, it was their number one project since due to the old CFO we weren't exactly having any new business coming in. So the main focus was to overhaul the entire board." Jasmine had sat contently as she listened to Crystal talk about one of her dates, it was true that the two friends were horrible at setting people up. It was like they just saw someone single and figured it would be a match since one of the two girls were single. "I haven't had to go as far as issuing a restraining order. It's like those two figure that the only thing two people need to have in common is that they're single. Personality doesn't matter at all or something." Jasmine shook her head while bringing the flute back up to her lips and sipping what was left of her champagne.

"I sure am." Jasmine responded to the question about being cancer free. "I haven been cancer free for two years now. So it's still a fresh feeling not knowing if I was going to die or lose my breasts. But, I have learned to put that behind me and just be the best person I can be. You probably remember my attitude, it took a lot to put me down. I don't see the point in having a short temper or being annoyed so easily." Jasmine sat her empty glass down before laying her hands in her lap. "It's true that going through such an experience does change a person, it makes you humble but also reminds you that life is amazingly short for something that's supposed to be substantially long." Jasmine sighs while turning her blue eyes to Crystals green eyes. "It's funny to me how people think that they have utter control over their lives, they think they're going to live to be old and wrinkly. I've realized that life doesn't work like that, we have no control over our length of days. Sure an argument can be that if someone doesn't do drugs they will obviously live longer, but how do you know? Sure you don't do drugs but that drunk driver that just ran you over didn't know that. It's just a sobering experience and a feeling I hold onto." Jasmine broke eye contact for a moment before looking back towards her ex as she went on.

Jasmine gave Crystal her full attention as she spoke about her luck with other women. That was something they did have in common, it was hard to find someone with the same social class and understand the demand to hold onto such a life. "I'll be honest with you, I went back to giving men a chance, bisexual men since I have that little issue. I was upfront with them and everything about the situation and for the most part it was taken with an open mind. Unfortunately men are worse than women, it's not only the part about having a busy schedule but men are so insecure when it comes to a woman making more money than them. The relationships ended before they even began." Jasmine groaned at the momentary memories as she spoke of the men.

Jasmine listened curiously about Crystals story about Texas, it was true that Texas works on a whole different field than the rest of the states. "Interesting, I guess if any state was going to be different when it came to the court of law then it would be Texas. I think they just put in an express lane for death row inmates." Jasmine chuckled lightly at her own joke since Texas probably has the highest rate of death penalties. "I haven't done any business in Texas yet, but thank for the heads up about watching who I talk to and give my number out to." When the wine bottle and glasses come the gentleman pours a couple glasses and leaves the bottle in a bucket of ice that was sitting in the middle of the table. "I love the smell of a freshly poured wine." Jasmine let the bottle sit and breathe for a bit as she moved her attention back to Crystal.

Through out the relationship that the two had there was one thing that Jasmine always did, she gave her full attention to Crystal when she spoke. When she began to speak about her luck with women it was a common trait the two had. "I will be completely honest with you, I haven't had sex in a substantial amount of time. Years probably, which is why I keep such a busy schedule. It's just hard to find that one person you want to spend your free time with, and I'm not going to call up some random person for a fling." Jasmine kept listening and raised a brow when Crystal spoke of her exes and how they were in some way just like Jasmine. It was a surprise to say the least. "A little funny, I think." Jasmine didn't quite know what to say as she swirled her wine glass between her fingers. "I didn't think I could make such an impact on someones life in a way such as that. I just try to be respectful and courteous to my partner. I would like to feel that I treated you with respect and made time for you. It's easy for successes such as ourselves to get caught up in our work but we made time for each other. Whether it was bringing dinner to one another during a late night at work. I think it was all the small gestures that kept our relationship strong." Jasmine just left it there since she didn't want to bring up the conversation that ended the relationship.

"All we can really do is move on, what was and what could have been is in the past. I don't hold a grudge towards how our relationship ended, it was a very mature way to end a relationship and we went our own ways. So, with that, I want to make another toast." Jasmine picked up her glass and held it up. "To the future, let it be filled with memories worth remembering and shared with those who you care about." Jasmine smiled sweetly at Crystal, locking her eyes on the emerald color of her exes.
