Sirena would never forget the day that she was swept away in the sea, carried off by a storm that would doom her to a life of solitude for the rest of her days. It was dark, the seas rolled violently as it thrashed with the wind. It was much like the storm that was currently brewing upon the high seas. At least this time, she was safely able to watch it from the lagoon she now called home. Having been washed ashore upon a deserted island with no signs of life, and not a clue as to what direction to search in for her long lost family, she remained lost for the rest of her days.

The island was small, large enough for wildlife to take root, but not for a colony of humans to deem worthy of settling upon. At least, that's what she grew to believe, as no humans had came to visit in all her years upon it's shores. Why, she couldn't understand, as it was beautiful. A lagoon that drifted inland was one of her favorite places to visit. Surrounded by weeping willows and beautiful flowers of various colors, the waters were shallow and warm, allowing her shelter and a place to rest out of the burning daylight sun that often beamed down upon the shores. A collection of sparkling sea shells littered her favorite boulder, ones that were carried gently into the shallow pool and hadn't been broken by angry waves.

Sitting upon a rock on the jetty of her island, the fading sun glistened upon her bluish tail. It was a perfect match to her eyes as they sparkled like jewels matching the waters of her home. However, they weren't full of joy and happiness as most would picture of a mermaid who frolicked in the seas. Her's were full of dread and worry as she watched the blackened sky creep closer overhead. Her usual otter and dolphin friends had already left her to seek shelter, leaving her to stand watch alone. A heavy sigh eased from parted rosy lips as a hand came up to brush her long, rich sangria colored mane from the gentle curves of her cheeks. A loud crash of thunder rolled overhead, a cue that sent Sirena diving deep below the surface, seeking shelter inside a hidden cavern long forgotten in the depths below.

Nathan or Nate was walking along the deck of the boat, his eyes looking over the horizon, he was not a member the crew of the ship, but a special guest who was on the boat so that he could go with them on their trip of exploration. Now, Nathan did know a good deal about sailing and traveling on a boat, he had done so much over his 26 years of life that it was pretty much second nature to the young man. He was a man of science though, as he had been trained in the earth sciences and life sciences of the day and was now hopeful that he could find some new unknown animal somewhere in these unknown islands. He looked at the sky and could make out the dark skies that were moving in, it was a bad sign, but storms were part of the nature of being on a ship after all.

It wasn't long though till the storm was upon them, hitting the side of the ship with a great amount of wind as it battered the ship over and over again causing it to toss and turn like a rock going down a stream. Things looked back and were getting worse as suddenly the main mast of the ship cracked from the wind and blew down. This storm was something strange as the ship started to fall down all around them as they worked trying to keep the ship afloat. It was nearly at that moment that it happened, he was holding his bag in his arms as he felt a strong gust, he had the bag cause his science gear was in it and he was going to test the wind before this all happened. The force of the wind caused him to stumble backwards. As he moved backwards, he caught his foot on some piece of wood which caused him to fall over the side of the ship, taking the railing with himself.

Once in the water, he saw the ship move forward, more and more before a strong wind capsized the whole ship most likely causing the death of the crew who wee still on it. He had some drift wood from the mast and the rail that broke which he rested himself upon as he floated. This was most likely it, he floated aimlessly to his doom. It was thus a surprise the following morning when he was laying on a beach of a lagoon, a island of some type he figured was where he was. He found his bag sitting on himself as he looked around the island for a moment, pausing as he got to his feet, how did he get here, he wasn't sure, but he would have to figure a way to get away, and a way to set up things to live with as well as he was on the island, he in short, just had a whole lot of work ahead of him.

Even in the cavern below Sirena could see the darkness from above. The current was strong, rocking the seaweed and other various vegetation of the briny deep, carrying small little sea critters with it who couldn't get a good footing upon the shallow shores. It was down here where she was forced to spend the night, finding herself perched upon a rocky ledge just out of the waters reach below the islands surface. With little to do, other than braid pieces of her hair, she finally drifted off to sleep in the darkness as the waters lapped upon the rocks, creating a gentle and lulling sound to dream to.

The sun glittering through the water and reaching the mouth of the cave was enough stir the beauty from her sleep. Rising and stretching arms clear over her head, a soft smile grew upon her lips with relief to see the storm was over, giving way to a bright and beautiful day. The water splashed as she dove headfirst, finding a pod of dolphin catching fish close by. Otters were gliding upon the calm seas on their backs, some swimming and chasing one another playfully. All seemed to be normal, everyone happy and having survived the storm. However, something strange caught her eye. Swimming towards the surface, she spotted strange objects floating about: crates, rope, random planks and boards. It would appear the storm did far more damage than she knew, quickly growing concerned. The objects were quickly recognized as being from a ship, having explored many sunken treasures from below that had been swallowed by the wrath of the sea. Sorrow filled her heart, knowing no one would likely to survive such a disaster.

Following the debris towards the shore, she sat upon the sand, sorting through various items to see what would catch her eye. A shiny spoon pulled her interest, plucking it from it's resting place and tilting it side to side in the light. She could see her reflection, though only barely as it seemed to be tarnished from years of wear, and now dented from the tumble against rocks it was forced to take.

Movement upon the beach was quick to draw attention away from new found treasures, finding a man beginning to stir upon the rubble nearby. Crawling to his side, she smiled upon finding he was breathing, but frowned as he quickly awakened. In a panic, she scrambled towards the waves, dipping beneath the surface just as his eyes popped open. However, her presence was fairly clear upon the beach, a heavy tail having been dragged towards the waters edge, and a splash as she broke the surface. Curiosity kept her lingering nearby, but out of sight, finding a rock to dip behind to watch as the man finally rose from the sand and up to his feet.

Nate got to his feet at that moment he had a lot more worries then if someone was watching him and if they were also there. His worries were setting up a shelter of some kind, finding some way to find water, and figure a way to generally set himself up so that he could have a base of operations while he worked on finding a way to get off the island. He looked though his bag, opening it, he laid out everything that he had in it. Most of it was measurement tools to measure the speed of the wind, or temperature, or weight. Though he also had some tools that would be needed when setting up experiments, among these luckily was one nice hatchet. Something simple would have to work in this situation, he thought about it, as he went over to the lagoon, he took a sip of the water, which was helpful in a lot of ways, he found out that it was very much fresh and not salt water which meant he had a source of water, which meant he should set up his camp nearby.

The rest of the morning was spent cutting down small trees, that were lining the area, taking branches, anything he could find that he could use. He built a hut as he thought of it, triangular in shape to safe on supplies. It was more of a kind of tent then anything else. It had three large trees burred into the sand to give support then they crossed each other at the top as he took some washed up rope to tie the logs together creating a study place to add on to. He then spent the rest of his time adding a layer of leaves and sticks to the that would form the sides, using rope to hold down the rib like branches that connected the sides as well, with a layer of leaves that was put over the branches that would give him shade inside of the small tent. He then used the hacket on a coconut that he found and ate the inside of it, to fill his stomach.

Next he would have to start working on a way off the island, he sat outside on the sand thinking about this as he did so he knew that a raft would be ideal. It would mean going around the island and finding enough debris that he could use to make into a good enough raft to sail out of the place. It would take time and work, but that was something he had plenty of. He would also have to find things to use in his camp while he was there, which was while he built the raft. He swam out to grab a floating crate and then put it aside his tent as a kind of table, he went out time and time again taking things that could be useful and returning. He was surprised by the amount of things washed ashore, he knew he had been on a good sized ship with plenty of goods in cargo, but he didn't think he would find so much ashore, it wasn't that much compared to the size of the ship, but all that he found would be useful. He kept swimming out into the lagoon time and time again. Till he had an area a bit away from his camp to keep this random stuff.

Hidden behind a rock, a gust of wind blew through the lagoon, her dark hair dancing in the breeze. It carried her scent towards shore, one that was of the sea mixed with vanilla and honey. She was careful in her movements as she drew forward, dipping beneath the surface and swimming to another rock peeking above the surface. She was quite curious to see what had been in his back. Finding the items interesting, they appeared to be tools, of sorts, looking rather similar to some of those littering the ocean floor. What he did with them was even better, having never witnessed a human create before. Watching how it was done, she'd have to try it later, but for now kept herself hidden as he began to construct his hut.

As his direction was taken elsewhere, and he swam out in the lagoon, she couldn't help but follow along. Swimming beneath the surface as he gathered materials, she realized what it was he was doing and eagerly swam out to sea. Unsure why he needed all these items, she was sure they'd come in handy. It was her hope that if she helped the human, just maybe she wouldn't be alone. One by one she gathered barrels and crates, finding rope beneath the waters and using it to link them all together. She managed to create a train of items from the wreck, and once bound securely, began to push them towards the shore. Dolphins jumped beside her, eager for her to play. Sirena had to resist the call of her sea friends this time in order to satisfy her ever growing curiosity.

Reaching home, each item in the train was carefully guided closer to the sand, keeping herself hidden within the waters. It was far easier said than done, as the lagoon was almost crystal clear. A large silhouette would be easy to see beneath the surface, but of what would remain a mystery. Quick to dart off, she'd hide behind a boulder to watch the human receive his spoils, nibbling her bottom lip eagerly in hopes to see a bit of joy from her helpful gift.

Nate was about to set up some more things when he smelt the smell of something odd, it grabbed his attention fully, he hadn't smelt such a scent at that since he was last in a town before he started his journey, but when he looked out to the lagoon, he saw the pile of items that he had must of missed before. He went out and took the group of things and led them to the shore, he would be able to go over them later when he had time the following day. He had something that he had to do first before anything else. He created a fire pit in the sand, and used some of the broken wood that had dried up to use a lumber for his fire, he he needed a fire for the night and as a signal too if anyone were to see it they might come and save him. It was possible that the smoke would be seen and someone would come there and rescue him from his troubles.

Nate looked over the fire as it started, and smiled, it would work for so many purposes, but it also gave him a great deal of hope. He laid down on the sand keeping the tent open as he laid there, it was warm outside, and as the sun started to set he knew he had a productive and good day. He had made a shelter as he had needed to do. He also had been able to get a lot of things which he would be able to look though the following day as well. He knew what he would need to do from then on, and he was sure that he would be able to work on everything needed. He had an idea of making a fishing pole the following morning as he would be able to go fishing for his food. He could get some good fish from what he had seen while he was swiming, he had noticed a odd shape deep under water once or twice but figured it was ruins of the ship floating around at the bottom of the lagoon.

As he watched the sun go down, he sat up and went over to the fire and made sure there was enough wood to keep it going while he slept but not to much to get it out of hand. He made sure that all the wood was away from the fire as he then went back to the tent. It was early to go to bed, but it had been a long day, and he needed his rest. The young man laid out in the tend on the palms he laid out as a floor and the sand as well, and fell asleep in quick order as he was rather tired from the long day of work. He knew that from then all most days would be busy for him, but he was sure he would find a way back home.

The fire crackling upon the sand was, perhaps, the must fascinating of them all. Drawing her near like a moth to a flame, she was acutely aware of the man present who may not take so kindly to her presence. It had been a productive day for him, introducing new things for her to learn about, to see, and even though he knew nothing of her it was nice to have some company. The moon's reflection danced among the waters as they gentle washed upon the sand, providing a soothing sound for one to slumber to. Even Sirena was now growing tired, but there was one more thing she felt she needed to do before sleeping for the night. He hadn't eaten the entire day, not that she had seen, and felt it necessary to provide him with some nourishment.

Even in the dark her vision below the water was fairly well, finding a perfect spot where oysters dwell. Pondering for a moment, she flicked her tail and shot to the surface, heading towards the shore to try her hand and making a sort of basket. Finding driftwood, dried seaweed, some twine and loose leaves, she somehow managed to fasten together a little basket. Diving back into the deep, she'd fill it with shells of clams and oysters, hoping they'd provide some what of a nice meal for the human, unsure if it was something he would eat himself. While digging through the muck, she'd find a pretty shell that sparkled even in the night, a beautiful swirl upon the top that shone like the rainbow.

Placing it upon the gathered food, she swam back to the surface and gently broke the waters skin, drifting closer to the tent. Her heart was racing as she drew near, unsure if her were asleep or not, and cautiously put the basket far enough away from the waters edge. She saw no movement, heard no sounds from within the little shelter, and with a bit of bravery, crawled upon the shore. At first, she sat by the fire, leaving imprints of herself within the sand as proof that she was there, not meaning to, of course. She was far too fascinated with the flickering lights to worry about such trivial things. As a feint sound of breathing finally reached her ears, she turned towards the tent and crawled her way towards the edge.

Looking in, the man seemed to be fast asleep, exhausted from such a trying day. His features were handsome, enough to draw her closer. A single hand extended out, hovering in the air anxiously as she was far too tempted to touch and feel his warmth. Pondering the thought, she decided to turn away, letting him rest in peace. Sleep was threatening to overtake her anyway, and quickly she headed back into the water, a thick and heavy trail from her length tail being left in her wake. Soon enough, she'd find a rock upon the jetty to settle for the night, eyes turned towards the stars as she drifted off to sleep.

The following morning the young man on the beach woke up with the sun, it was going to be day two on the island, he got to his feet and marked the sand to remind himself about that fact as he found the basket of claims and oysters, he prepared them and left them in a large pot he found amount the rubble and made a place where he could heat them over the fire steaming them as he put a lid over the pot and waited for the claims to be read, after he was done with them he cut them out and ate them a hand full of them. he was curious how this got here, but he wondered if perhaps one of the crew had gathered them before the ship had sunk and he got lucky like this to find them as he had. He gathered up the hatchet and went away from the shoreline, so it was impossible to know where he went from the sea.

He spent the whole day exploring the island going to the highest point on the island that wasn't that big and figuring out the size of the island as well as gathering rocks and other things which he could use for his little camp and now knew that he was on a decent sized island. As he returned he had the rocks in his arms as well as some pieces of wood from native trees that he had found in the forest when he got back it was mid after noon, he noticed some movement but thought most likely it was the wind that had caused the movement as he put it all down and put the rocks around the fire pit to protect it and keep sparks from getting out from the fire. He went and luckily found a knife in a barrel and took it and went to work for the afternoon on the wood, working to make himself a fishing pole as he cut it down to work as what he need it a primitive fishing pole to hopefully use that night.

He was excited as he made the poll, knowing that it was going to be nice to be able to make a fish dinner later plus he found some seeds that he could use, when he was done, he moved away from the sand into the normal dirt, and started to dig, when he moved in a bit and made himself a simple garden with the seeds that were there, he planted the seeds, knowing he would need another source of food, he made the garden with a shovel he found with the knife and planted tomatoes, potatoes and carrots the things he had seeds for in the barrel. he knew they could still work given the barrel was air tight luckily and he knew that if they grew he could eat them with the fish, but it would take a good long while till any of it was ready, and hopefully he would be gone before any of it grew.

As the sun rose into the sky, painting a beautiful palette of pinks upon the horizon, Sirena woke up to a strange smell filling the air. Rolling into the water with a splash, she made her way back to the lagoon, finding the human steaming her gift and seeming to enjoy the meal. It made her joyful to see him eating happily and enjoying her gift. She'd have to find him other things he might enjoy, but for now, she had to find a meal of her own. On the side of the island, she knew of a place where coconuts were plentiful and banana trees hung low towards the water. While she often ate seafood, fruit was also a refreshing way to start the day. Flicking her tail, she darted off beneath the waves and headed around the island.

A gentle breeze made the trees sway as she settled upon a rock, fingers reaching to pluck a banana from a low lying branch. It was perfectly ripe and easy to peel, her lips wrapped perfectly around the fruit as she took gentle bites. It was a wonderful way to start her day, having finished that off and cracked a coconut to drink. The sun was hot as it shone down upon the island, and Sirena stretched lazily upon the rock. With her belly full, she settled down to take a little nap.

Playful otters from nearby woke her a while later, splashing and frolicking about chasing one another. While it was a joyous sight to watch, it also brought sorrow to her heart, only reminding the mer that she was utterly alone. Leaving them to play, she swam off through the calm seas back to the lagoon, wanting to check in on her human companion. Finding him digging in the dirt, she grew a bit braver, rising a little from the water to lounge upon a nearby rock, watching his human ways. She wanted nothing more than to speak to him, to swim with him, to make a friend. Her lonely heart needed another, and while she watched, a bit of that sadness returned to her eyes.

Nate was content with himself as he finished digging the garden out and finished planting the seeds in as well, he took the pot that he cooked in and washed it out and then also used it for water which he watered the garden with, it was easy to do but it was good exercise too. After he was done he walked out to the sand and then swam out to one of the rocks out on the end of the lagoon and climbed up on it as he took the fishing pole he had made and tossed it in, as he climbed up, he though he heard something he wasn't sure what it was, but he thought he heard a splash or something, another odd thing, maybe it meant a big fish was in the area that he could catch. he smiled at the thought of catching a big fish, he sat on the rock as he let his line float in the water, using a worm that he found as he dug as bait to try to catch a fish form the ocean.

He wasn't sure even the type of if they would be eatable but he had to try, he knew he could use the fish skins to help his seeds grow like natives from north america did with their corn. He smiled as he sat relaxing. For a moment he was alone with the world, he enjoyed the peace and quiet, it was a chance to explore and live with nature, that was cool. he did miss society though and everything he had when he was back in his world. He didn't miss the trouble or the business of it, there was a great deal of trouble about that in a way, but there was a great deal of danger here too. He was unsure but he would work to find a way home as he went home sooner rather then later on a boat.

He waited for a good while before he gave up, it seemed his ability to fish wasn't that great and it was getting kind of late, he looked up and saw the moon over the ocean and smiled, it was beautiful, he smiled for a moment as he then got down and then swam over to the beach and laid down in the sand near the fire, falling asleep again, for the night, he had another long day, and he had to wake up early to try to catch some fish the following morning to eat for that day, and to use in his garden as well. He rested on his stomach his head turned to the right as he snored just a bit that night. Two days on the island and he had gotten so much done with what he had, he still had to build a raft which he would start the following day, working then to go though the stuff he had to find the best way to put together the raft and then take it back home. He was confident he would make it and live to see a better day ahead of him.

The day had passed by quickly, leaving her surprised to see the moon peeking over the horizon. She'd spent her entire day watching Nate, curious as to why he'd stuck a worm upon a hook and dropped it in the water, that she completely lost track of time. Seeming as how he enjoyed her gift she left last night, inspiration struck to gather fruit from her favorite spot in hopes it was something he'd enjoy. Another basket would have to be constructed, given that she wasn't sure where he left the one from the night before. Knowing how to do it now, it took very little time to gather what was needed and to piece the thing together before swimming off around her home.

Reaching her favorite eating spot, she gathered bananas and coconuts, enough to last a day or two at the very least, and carefully swam back to the lagoon. With her items held high, she'd be sure they didn't get wet. He was sound asleep still by the fire when she returned, leaving the basket in the same place as the night before. Just as she went to turn back to the water, curiosity got the best of her, and she crept closer up the shore. The fire flickered and radiated a wonderful warmth that was unlike anything she'd ever feel in the sea, drawing her to sit for a little while and bask in it's orange glow.

Sitting beside Nate, she couldn't help but watch him sleep, finding the sounds he made to be a bit humorous. It gave him an innocent appearance, once that made him irresistible to touch. Holding her breath, she gentle reached to caress the hair upon his head, fingers tracing down his cheek. He was soft and warm, not at all what she expected, and seeming much like herself. However, he was dressed and had no tail, while she was completely topless and had scales. Yawning widely, she settled in next to him, laying upon the sand for a while longer as she watched the moon and lightly slept off and on through the night. However, as the birds began to sing to welcome the morning sun, she was quick to drag herself back to the briny deep, away from his eyes.

The following morning he woke up and looked around for a good moment as he felt something he saw the fruits and blinked, he was surprised now at this but he wasn't going to question it as he took some of the fruits and smiled as he ate them, he used the peals to create a compost pile to use for his garden to fertilize the garden and make the plants grow large in time. He was glad that he had such good luck. He would spend the day at the beach this day, not going into the island as there was no need to do such a thing. he grabbed his things for a moment but decided to swim under water this day to the bottom of the lagoon as he found it deeper then he thought, he went around and enjoyed the morning swimming around happily swimming from the fresh water just relaxing as he knew he had to work but giving him some time to have fun too.

He went to work after getting out of the water, he worked on the boat, which was easy to put together, he found enough nails to put it together this time easily making a raft that was large enough to hold himself, he put water into puts and tied them onto the makeshift raft and put it on the water, he smiled as it floated, it would work. he knew it would, it wasn't time to go, the shore was down, at high tide would be the ideal time to head out to avoid any rocks that he could not see, that would not happen till the following morning. Yet, he knew that with this boat or raft he would be able to head home and leave the island. He liked the island and would have great memories of his three days on the island but it was time to go, he pulled the raft in as he tied the things onto it making sure he had enough food, he then spent the day relaxing laying in the sun, getting a bit of a tan from the sun.

It was such a nice day, he knew that in time he would remember this as the most relaxing day of his life, no social worries or obligations to hold him down, they were so troublesome. It was why he explored to get away form the stuffy society that had held him in and then also he missed it all the same. It was funny, he hated and loved society, and he loved this place but also felt rather lonely in this place to alone by himself, as he knew that he should head back to society. He soon went back to fishing that afternoon using the rod again which was a complete failure on his part. He relaxed on the rock giving up after a while and taking a small nap on it that afternoon knowing he would have to leave early in the morning the next day.

As he swam, she did too, lingering in the depths and out of his sight. At times, she just wanted to take him by the hand and lead him away to her magical world beneath the sea, but she knew he'd never be able to survive without the gift to breath beneath the water. At least she could enjoy his company, though he knew nothing of her presence, possibly only catching her shadow beneath the waves. From time to time as he explored the depths, she'd bring him baubles to find and set them gentle upon the sea floor, giving him credit for the discoveries. It was far too sad to see him wade from the waters and on to shore to continue to build and do some work.

Unsure what he was building, it became fairly clear as she saw the vessel floating on the water. It was a boat, no doubt, his plans being to leave as soon as possible. Not at all happy with it, she quickly swam away in tears, diving deep towards her underwater cavern where refuge was sought. Being alone in the dark, she curled upon the stony ledge and cried herself to sleep. In the middle of the day, she awoke from slumber, drowsy and sore, but sure of what she needed to do. She was quick to move, diving back into the water and flipping her tail quick enough to rocket her towards the lagoon.

Peering above the water, the human wasn't seen right off the shore, and deeming it safe, she crawled upon the bank towards his vessel. The hatchet would be needed, having seen him use it before, she went about searching for it, crawling about the sand, leaving trails in her wake. A heavy sigh escaped her parted lips as she nearly gave up, smiling as it was found from the corner of her eye. Fingers gripped the handle as she headed towards the vessel, getting right to work. He wasn't allowed to leave and doom her to a life alone. It was hard enough she'd lost her family, and now this human wished to dessert her? Though he knew nothing of her, in her mind it's what he was doing, leaving her actions to feel justified.

Swinging the tool upon his work, she was quick to dismantle it, leaving sloppy marks within the materials as accidental proof of what happened to his work. Tearing it to shreds, she tossed the pieces to the side, scattering them about his camp to make his work far more difficult. Satisfied, though feeling full of guilt, she was quick to retreat before he'd return.

As he got back he had more coconuts to use to fill with water, he saw the raft apart, as if it had been ripped apart by a wild animal perhaps, he sighed as he walked over and looked at it, it was the easy way to get out of the island and back to civilization. He looked at the remains. He went about the camp looking for the pieces and gathering them up during the rest of the day, he managed to find them, but he found to many parts broken, he would have to go and gather more parts and make more from the woods around, as well as re-propose many things that were used for other goods. he would build a stronger structure and take his time this time. He would build a real boat perhaps. small but something that would last in the water, which that boat would not last it would appear in the water.

If she was looking at him, she would see his natural determination to work towards a goal. He gave up on working for it for the day, as he went out for a swim, he swam out and found the dolphins, he smiled as he swam with them, swimming was something he loved to do, he had done so since he was a kid and his father a sea captain, before he was sent off to school. He was no merman but he was still a great swimmer for a human. He swam around with the dolphins for a while as he enjoyed himself. It was fun and he needed fun after the failure that was his boat. He swam with them till that night when he returned to the beach and ate the fruit he had found on the beach.

He had no clue yet that his work had been messed with, he just figured that there was more to the island then he knew of, perhaps a otter got curious or perhaps a wild boar would of gotten it as well. Either one was possible, and he wasn't going to blame the animal who wanted to see what is stuff was. he ate quietly as he looked at the ocean for a moment before he started to build his new ship buy the fire, building something small that would be a good starting point for his new boat, before going to sleep, this boat would take time maybe a month to build if not more but it would work and get him away easily and get him to civilization without a problem at all, he would make sure he did this right and was prepared for animals this time as he put a rope with a bell to wake him if anyone stepped on by the project area for the boat.

Satisfied with her work, she watched him scavenge through the broken pieces, feeling almost sorry as disappointment was quite apparent on his. She was a kind soul, and it was unlike her to do such a thing, but desperation called for such measures. She couldn't risk him leaving, not wishing to remain alone upon the island. Sure she had the dolphins and the otters, but they weren't enough. They enjoyed her company, but they couldn't carry conversations with her, or show her love. This human could do that, if only she had the courage to show her face. Until then, he had to stay here, and any effort would be thwarted.

Seeing that he had given up for the moment, she accompanied him on his swim with the dolphins, perhaps drawing far too near a time or two where her hands would linger and graze against his skin. She just couldn't resist, craving the warmth of another, and only something he could provide. Working to control herself a bit better, she'd back away, giving him the space he needed to enjoy his day. She swam off alone for a while, diving into the depths in search of other treasures that may have drifted with the storm just a few nights before. Digging through the muck, she'd find a glittering jewel the color of red, rich and deep as the blood coursing through her veins. It was beautiful, a perfect piece to add to her collection. Rising to the surface to add it to her shells, she'd catch the sight of the human building again.

It was clear he was determined to leave, and it was obvious she'd have to crawl upon the shore to wreck his efforts once again. Pacing through the water, it was well after sunset when he'd finally give up to settle for the night. This was her time to do her thing, creeping up towards the makeshift boat and unaware of the bell. This vessel was far more sturdy than the last, and Sirena was unsure just how to dismantle this one without making so much noise. Her efforts to be quite were disrupted by the ringing of the bell, her tail having bumped it as she flicked it side to side. There was no way she'd make it back to the waters before he'd have time to sit up, Sirena being perfectly aligned in his sight. However, she could try, and began to crawl her way back towards the waters edge.

He had put the bell just so that a wild animal would trip it before running his ship, he was sure that it would work, and in fact it did work just as it was designed to work, it woke him up right away as the dark haired young man got to his feel and looked over at his boat or would be boat and then looked around for a raccoon figuring that was what it was now that was trolling him or something. He looked around for a moment as he paused and then saw odd marks on the ground, he had seen them before, it then hit him he saw them most days since the first day that he was there. He looked around following the tracks from where he was to the sight that shocked the hell out of him, his light blue eyes fixating on her as he spotted the creature who tripped the alarm.

"You, there stop, what are you, who are you," he called out loudly, his voice loud to try to get her attention as he moved toward the woman. the mermaid who was on the beach. A creature that was fictional and mythical, it was something he would of said was fake. Now he was looking at one, his logical mind was having a hard time believing what he was seeing. If he didn't know better he would think that he was a shocked to say the least, he wondered why this mermaid was here and what the mermaid was doing, He had no clue if one could talk or speak or do anything as he looked at her moving towards the ocean most likely afraid of him, that would make the most sense that the mermaid had also helped him giving him the food the couple times when it seemed rather odd.

"Miss Mermaid, stop, I am not going to harm you, what are you, how did you end up here, wait, I want to talk to you," he called out to her as she moved towards the water, he wasn't sure what the mermaid was doing, or even how a mermaid lived. So many questions came to his mind. He was a man of science so to learn about a creatue that was seen as fake till that moment was to much to ask for for the scientist who was standing there. He was more curious about her then anything else, unsure what to think of this woman who seemed to help him but also didn't want him to build a boat for some reason as well.

Panic welled up in her eyes as she heard the stirring in the hut, arms eagerly pushing herself across the sand as she tried desperately to reach the waters before being seen. It was no use, hearing him calling out behind her only urged her to speed up. Anger was clear in his voice, at least that's how she took it to be. All those gifts, her efforts seeming to be wasted upon a human unwelcoming of her kind. Tears began to stream down her face, afraid that he'd harm her, but suddenly his calls had changed, now he was kind and interested.

Pausing just within arms reach of the gentle waves that eagerly lapped upon the shore, she turned her head enough to let her gaze settle into his eyes. Her tail seemed to shimmer in the soft moonlight, eyes bright even in the dark. Understanding every word that dripped from his lips, she tried to piece together sounds to make some sort of response. Human language was foreign to her, but a part of her seemed to recognize it, understand it even enough for it to make sense. It's the only thing that reassured her now that he wouldn't bring her harm, trusting in what he said.

At first, her words were rather aquatic, seeming to mimic a mix of marine sounds only heard in the mystery of the deep. It took several moments to piece together the right sounds to form the words she wished to say, but once succeeding, a gentle smile tugged at the edges of her lips. "I.....I'm sorry for waking you." He had been asleep, not at all her wish to ruin a slumber much needed by a hard working man such as himself. "I didn't mean to bother you."

He looked at the mermaid, he was shocked to see thing work like they were, he was shocked to hear her even speak, he was sure she wouldn't be able to say anything. She was smart and intellegent as well. He looked at her looking over at him and walked slowly towards her with his hands open and up showing that he was no danger to her, which he wasn't. He was curious now and wanted to learn about this woman and her life style and he wanted to figure out what life was like for her. He walked up and then sat down on the sand next to her as he looked at her. "It is fine, do not worry about waking me, up, I never have seen one of your kind ever, thank you for the food, it was really good," he said knowing that she was the one who had given him to food and who had helped him out.

"I am a scientist, I came out to explore and look for new life, and you are as new as I have ever seen," he said softly as he sat there on the sand, "Now, you can go back to your home, I do not want to keep you, we can talk tomorrow, if you don't mind," he said looking at her, "I have so much I guess I need to teach you, and help you with, so that we can communicate but I want to learn about you," he said honestly knowing that it would seem odd, but he knew though observation one could learn the most about others. He was at heart a naturalist who loved to be in nature and exploring nature around himself. "Now, good night, and my name is Nate," he said giving her his name to remember knowing that she would have no clue what it was, but to have a name to put to him other then human would be good.

He let her be as he went back to his tent, excited by the events of the day and finding something new, he wondered if he should wait and learn as much as possible about the mermaid before leaving. He had a reason to stay on the island to document the life of a creature unknown to the world, it would be a great dead to paint them in a good light and a true light. He felt his heart beating so fast as he laid there, so excited by the meeting, it was unlike anything that had happened to him ever before in his life and nothing could compare to this chance meeting. He was tired though and did slowly drift back to sleep after a few moments.

At first, she sat there watching the human as he spoke, her mind working to make sense of his words. Their meaning was clear, though few evaded her and unsure what they meant. However, she understood enough to smile and give a brief nod. "Nate.." She repeated, almost a question in way her voice rose in pitch. His name, no doubt, and she only saw it fitting to return the favor. "Sirena..." Without another word, she slipped into the water, disappearing in it's depth before popping up just a short distance away. Only her head hovered above the surface, clearly watching the shore as Nate retired back to his hut to rest for the night. He seemed kind enough, and no longer fearful, she smiled and kept watch until he was settled in.

A rock was nearby, her favorite of them all, and instead of retreating to the jetty she'd find herself upon her usual perch to rest. Gazing at the moonlight, she was inspired to sing a song without words, just a simple melody with sounds of the sea. Whales sang in response off in the distance, dolphins came in near to swim in the lagoon, all seeming to enjoy the mer's beautiful voice to end a beautiful day. As the moon rose higher in the sky, they all retreated for the night, and Sirena hunkered down to get some sleep.

Early in the morning, she was quick to rise, diving into the depths to frolic with the early morning life. Passing by a bed of oysters, she was quick to pluck a few from their beds, carrying them off to the shore as another offering. When she arrived, the human was still asleep, drawing her curiosity to bring her closer. Now that she had nothing to fear, she shifted through the sand and sat at his side, face a bit too close to his own as she watched him sleep.

Sirena, that was her name a sweet name, he thought to himself as he laid there and then rested on his back as he fell asleep that night and then the morning that followed he woke up and stretched himself out a bit as he then noticed that Sirena was rather close to himself. He blushed a great deal at first just cause of the amount of surprise to find the mermaid that was near him, but then he noticed something he hadn't noticed the night before. While the bottom half of her was fish like in the stories of myths, that wasn't the case with the top half of her. He didn't think about it, but all the pictures of mermaids were covered with shells or some other thing. This was a full view of her breasts which caused him to turn a deeper shade of red as he tried to turn away form her quickly as he looked a bit embarrassed.

"I am sorry that I surprised you, just in my culture women normally over up there um breasts, the things that are large on your chest, cause showing them is considered to be well, um sexual in nature," he said as he knew that most likely his words didn't make much sense as they came from different worlds he turned towards her and focused his attention her her face as he looked at her, "How are you doing this morning, and what are you planning to do today," he asked her as he was unsure what she was going to do on a normal day. What did a mermaid do on a normal day, there was so much that he didn't know, what did she like to eat, how did she have fun, what did she like what did she dislike. There was so much that he didn't know about her and he was curious to such a high level.

"Now, this is about learning about, you, what types of things do you like to do, um, how do you start your morning really," he asked as he looked at her, "I can't swim down to the areas, I am guessing you can, or even close, sadly, but I am sure that I might be able to find a way with enough equipment and time to figure something out," he said with a smile as he was a genius and he could figure out how to travel more under water as he would just need to think about the how to, and that would take a great amount of time to figure out, and as he worked to figure it out he would learn more about her and this new world he happened to be in.

Excited that he was awake, her face drew even closer, a bright smile painted on her lips. He turned red, arousing a giggle to gurgle from her throat. Getting the gist, she backed away, giving him a bit of space to adjust to the brightness of the day. However, as is discomfort seemed to only grow, she couldn’t figure out why. His words, while understanding most of them, not all of them made sense. Unsure what he meant, her head tilted to the right, eyes squinting with confusion as she looked down to her breasts. “sexual?” She’d repeat, unsure what he talked about. A hand came up to set upon her mounds, not trying to hide them, but a gesture to make sure it was those he was worried about.

The conversation shifted, and the mer grew excited as he asked about her plans for the day. What was she going to do? There was little, if anything, a mer had to do, as no chores needed to be completed or bills to be paid. Reaching for his hand, she’d tug, gesturing for him to sit up and come with her so that she may show him her world.

Releasing her grip, she crawled outside, nearing the waters edge where sea shells were gathered and clearly present as the tide had dipped to its lowest. Plucking them from the sand, she’d take the time to wash each one perfectly until it glistened in the light. It’s what she planned to do, and offering a few out, she’d try to show him the beauty she saw in each and every one. Once the best ones had been collected, she laid back on the sand, letting the water wash over her tail. It had seemed to be drying, after all, and it had never been dry before. Little was known about what could happen if her scales were no longer wet, causing her great concern.

It would become clear she had little to do as she laid there soaking up the rays that streamed through the trees, nearly placing in her what appeared to be a spotlight, putting her on show. Her scales sparkled, dazzling like a brightly colored gem, and it flicked side to side as she was surely content. Patting the ground beside her, she’d invite him to join in, hoping he’d just relax instead of spending his day working.
