Hazel Winters stepped out of the Cristopal's airlock hatch, looking over the new world. KY-119. A desolate, barely habitable rock, unexplored and on the edge of known space. Unremarkable, unnoticed.
Perfect for their needs.
After the Absolute Regime had taken control of the outer colonies, imposing their fascist order, Hazel and her boyfriend, dissidents against their "new order," had stolen a small cargo shuttle and some old, Federation era maps, plotting a course out here, where the Absolutes wouldn't find them.
It was a barely habitable world, KY-119, but it beat a forced labor camp. There was water, and they could grow their own food, hopefully making a living on their own, at least until the colonies managed to overthrow the Absolutes.
