prologue:
How long ago one could walk freely on Earth, feel the warmth of sunlight on your face or beach sand underfoot. However those days are now long gone. Over population has reduced many to near slave labor to those that controlled the food markets, crime became rampant. Soon it became convenient to biofreeze the down trodden, the criminals, and if you paid enough any enemy. Indefinitely stored they did not need to be fed. after nearly a century more people were biofroze than were living it seemed. Finally the World counsel realized that even that solution would not work, energy had to be used to store them, energy that could be used elsewhere. After discussions it was agreed that their best bet, best option, was to send them off planet. By this time Earth had managed to populate the Moon and Mars, as well as a few nearby colonies, but not out of the solar system. They did locate several planets that could possibly harbor needed atmosphere and habitat for life to thrive. Immediately several interstellar spacecraft were constructed. Programmers put in abilities on board the ships main CPU and into many robo-units on how to awaken the biocylinders, to monitor and alter things as needed to ensure their safety. Even though many were some of Earths worst criminals. Murderers, rapists, drug dealers, prostitutes, embezzlers, poisoners, pedophiles, gangers, down to those just unlucky enough to be homeless or unable to bribe officials to not be frozen by a powerful enemy. Time spent travelling any diseases would be cured, any imperfection fixed such as an amputated limb. All fixed by the ship. Each ship held nearly 10,000 biocylinders, enough to ensure a wide varied genetic pool and survival.
This ship on its journey encountered much over centuries including meteor swarms that punctured its hull and killed nearly 1000 prisoners. Eventually repaired it scavenged a safety sub routine. As a result many programs became scrambled, garbled, or rewritten incorrectly. The result was it began to tamper with prisoners at random. Some given augmentations some subjected to mental implants making them more aggressive or more docile. A few even died. The ship was to land on a planet that was known to be fairly warm, the entire group would be addressed, then with certain devices to build a village they could rebuild human civilization. Unfortunately that did not occur. the damage it received over its travel it was unable to land safely. The biocylinders in packs of 8 (4 men, 4 women) were shot out in groups of 2-3 then after another distance it did it again, spiraling about the planet it was on as its last major fuel was being spent. Each 8 pack had a pack with meager rations and such things as a large communal tent. The planet however was not warm and sunny, it was more like Earth in its last ice age to those that soon woke. Prior to being jettisoned from the ship each male was induced with several medical shots, this was to ensure their first priority would be to want to mate. a precaution to hopefully jumpstart the human race again, to make women pregnant. Women were given shots to ensure that their bodies would be healthy for child birth, to stimulate their bodies.
This octet that landed, their cylinders fell apart and soon they began reviving. unfortunately 3 were damaged and their occupants dead from impact trauma (2 women and a male were dead). At the base of each cylinder were the clothes they were wearing when they were processed, now centuries out of style, but for the moment they all wore simple blue grey tunics and elastic loose pants and simple slip on shoes. Against the side of a small hill their packages landed, heavily forested, though the trees looked as if covered in a blue glass covering, A bit lower a ground ice fog covered much. The ground was patchy in both snow, ice, and mud...and now debris.
