It was just another day in the jungle, but to Mowgli even everyday dullness had not yet lost its charm in this exciting place. His former guardians had always proclaimed how dangerous an environment like the jungle was to a mancub, but they had finally given up on him and left him alone. In fact, he hadn't seen any of them in weeks.
Clad only in his red loincloth, the 18 year old boy wandered through a previously unexplored region, amazed at how many new plants and animals he got to see each day, Mowgli started to grow tired as the sun neared the horizon in the west. He decided to spend the night in a tree, as he most often did, and found a suitable one after only a quick search. A low branch, big enough to support the weight of a much larger animal, would be home for the coming night, so he straddled it and leaned back against the trunk of the huge tree, ready to drift off to sleep.
