Everyone knew that world war three would end the world, everyone knew it would be a nuclear war. Well they were half right at least. World war three was over in a day but its effects would be felt for the rest of time. The tension in the middle east blew up finally and one of the many countries there, no one is sure which, launched not a nuclear attack but a biological one. It was aimed at the male population of their enemy and it worked too well. The virus attacked the male genes killing the males almost as soon as they were infected. However it spread faster than they had thought and mutated at the same time.
Within a day it had killed nearly all the men in the middle east, by the end of the second day it had changed and wasn't killing men out right any more, it was just affecting them in ways no one could explain. Before they could really do a thing about it all the rest of the surviving males on earth were affected. When birth rates slowed no one thought a thing of it, but when they stopped suddenly everyone got scared. Within a year they found that the virus had changed all men so they couldn't reproduce anymore. The same tests on women showed they were hyper receptive almost like nature was trying to balance out so if any male had any sperm to give even just one they found a female would get pregnant.
The few places that had sperm frozen were carefully guarded and research started into a way to change this. They found it was mostly the males of the human race with a few animals as well. However it seemed that wolves were still just as male as needed because the wolf population was growing quickly. Some captured a few wolves to see if there was a way to reverse the process.
Standing in his cage the large black timber wolf walked back and forth slowly watching the female researcher as she worked on whatever it was that she was doing. Ever since coming here he had been needing a female and since his own kind was far away he would need to find another option. Something else had been changing as well the speech that humans had been using around him was slowly starting to make sense he could understand more than just the emotion in their voice. Perhaps those shots they had been giving him were doing something.
