It didn't take very long for her to stray from the path, but once she had, Yoni knew she was terribly lost. Quite often she would leave her home, secluded in the woods, and explore the paths until she had made her way back home again once more. This time, however, her curious nature had led her the wrong way. Yoni wasn't sure for how long she had been walking; the discomfort in her tender paw pads made it feel like hours. Presently, she sat on a fallen tree, pouting, one hand holding her head up beneath her muzzle as she frowned into the endless mass of trees. There was a strange smell in the air, one she couldn't quite put a finger on. But whatever it was, Yoni knew she would have to leave soon.

At once, she stood, dusting herself off and sighing heavily. Yoni mumbled to herself about how stupid she was, about how she never should have wandered away from the same places she had always been. She damned her need for adventure, a change of pace. She missed her little cottage, the plants lined up on every window sill, the smell of herbs and tea that drifted out of the kitchen. Yoni's world was very small until this day, and now, the Earth was a very wide, very scary place. Yoni knew that many other creatures existed in this world, but seldom did she meet any.

Yoni kept her head in the clouds as she strolled, her pace perhaps a little more hurried. She couldn't see the sun in the sky anymore, and the edges of the trees had grown pink in the gentle light of sundown. Yoni shook her head and shut her eyes, not exactly watching where she was going, when she suddenly put her foot down in the wrong spot.
The trap snapped onto her ankle with a sickening bite, the dull metal threatening to snap her ankle right in half. A terrible squeal of agony left her as she hit the ground hard, gasping in pain, clawing at the dirt and thinking something had bit her. Yoni turned, eyes already full of tears as she looked at the awful claw now bound to her ankle, a few dribbles of blood melting out of new wounds and into her cream fur. Yoni sobbed out, gave a second shriek of pain, panic making her fur rise and her ears go rigid. She wasn't sure if she would ever find home now, even if she was much closer than she thought.
