The story takes place in the fantasy kingdom of Kalardia, this kingdom used to be extremely religious until 10 years ago when "The great change" took place.
The tyrannical royal family, the Zforza family, was slain due to their power abuse, they did it with the excuse of "being chosen by Jerje (the most important god)", they executed anyone who dared to question their "divine power" and because of it technology never advanced. The Zforza never cared about their people so everyone starved to death, the corruption was extremely high and there was no security at all.
10 years ago a man started a rebellion, Galard Beston, not only defeated the royal army, he turned Kalardia in an atheist state and supported the technological advances, gave every family lands to cultivate, increased the security in all the kingdom and put thousands of new laws to help the people and many other things other kingdoms would never think about like making education obligatory, made a senate which created the first constitution and chose him as a constitutional king.
Other kingdoms see Kalardia as a strange thing yet admit it could be a powerful ally so many kings try to get a marriage alliance with Galard.
