The soft sound of laughter filled the mountain air as two young women made their way up the mountain side. "I'm telling you Danny." one of them said through their laughter, "He was so checking you out." Danny was a cute girl of short stature and short black hair with dark brown eyes and tanned skin. At the moment she was blushing a deep red from her friends words and she shook her head with a giggle while climbing up and around a large boulder. "Jewel, I highly doubt that he was." she said to her friend and Jewel rolled her eyes as she moved around the other side of the large rock. "Danny, you need to believe me. I know these things and I know that he was so checking you out." The shorter girl just sighed and shook her head again before coming to a stop beneath a tree for a short break, dropping her bags onto the ground.

"Jewel, why would he check me out when you were there?" she asked. "You're the one that everyone finds attractive." Jewel dropped her pack down next to Danny's and huffed. Jewel was indeed a very attractive woman. Most would use the word perfect to describe her. Tall with long flowing red hair, bright green eyes and fair skin as well as a fit slender body that could easily get her a modeling job. Though there was one problem. She was way to modest and camera shy for such a thing. But she made up for such shyness with her bravery, kindness and how smart she was.

Jewel opened her bag and pulled out an apple to eat for a snack, looking around at their surroundings as she ate it. It was her vacation from work and she decided to take her friend Danny up on the offer of going on a hike through the wilderness and so far she's loved the trip. They've seen so much in the two days they'd been out there and they still had a couple more days before they had to return home.

He had once been known as Willam Preston. That had been many years ago by his count. Now he had no name. He had no need for a name. He didn't need a name because he was alone in the wilderness. He had a cabin hidden high up a mountain in dense forest. Over the years he had improved it so that now it was very comfortable. It had many of the comforts of normal homes. He had planned this long before leaving his old life.

He had been a business man, fighting his way up the corprate ladder. He had done very well. He had become a company president at the age of 27. A year later he was righ, but unsatisfied. He hated the cut-throat nature of the buisness world. He grew sick of it and made a plan. He had always loved nature. He decided to escape from civilization and live in the mountains, enjoying life properly. He made his plans and bought himself supplies to build and furnish a home. By the time he was 30 he had taken it all out to the location of his new home.

Over the next four years he built and perfected his home. It was a single floor cabin with a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. The outside had a nice patio with a wodnerful view. He also had a tool shed. He had weapons in there to use for hunting and defense against wild animals. He had a stream that passed by the outside of his home. He had done something very unique with that. Using his wealth he had commisioned a special small water turbine to create power. He built a small dam in the stream and used that to provide the small ammount of power he needed. The other effect was that he had a pond where he could swim or bathe. That meant he did not need a shower or bath tub. He had an outhouse which also used technology to keep it from smelling bad. He used a small oven and stove. He had a small fridge and ice box to preserve food. When he hunted he would get a lot and needed a way to keep it safe to eat. The only other things he needed power for was the light and a cd player for his music. That was it.

One thing was for sure. He was no typical mountain man. He liked the luxuries that the modern world could provide. His only issue was with people and their nature. That was why he lived in the wilderness. He was happy there. He loved his home. He didn't care that he was alone without contact with other humans. He did not need them. His home was perfect for him. He had many books and many cds stockpiled to read and listen to. He spent time hunting and searching for edible fruits, roots, and vegetables. His family may have never understood, but this was something he had to do.

The girls rested there for about ten minutes before Jewel finally grabbed her pack and pulled it on with a sigh. "Come on Danny. We better get going if we want to get to that check point before it gets too late." she said and Danny nodded while picking up her pack as well. They looked back the way that they had come before turning and beginning up the path through the trees. Jewel and Danny were best friends. They had grown up together and they had even gone to the same college. If someone would ask about them, they would always get a response about it them being the inseparable duo despite the fact that they came from two completely different lifestyles.

Jewel came from a slightly higher, middle class family while Danny from a wealthy family that didn't really approve of their friendship but didn't keep them apart. They had done everything together and most said that they were so close, they could of been sisters if it weren't for their different appearances. Jewel came from a single parent family with four other siblings, her being the youngest so she is used to taking care of herself. Her mother had raised her and her three brothers and sister alone because their father ran out when she was just a couple of months old.

In school, Jewel studied as hard as she could, doing her best to get good grades which got her a scholarship to the college she wanted to go to where she learned to be a graphic designer. After graduating, she became a designer for a book company and she quickly became head editor. Danny became a fashion editor though, but they always got together to talk about what they were doing.

"Jewel! Hurry up!" Danny suddenly called and Jewel looked up with a grin after she was shaken from her thoughts and she nodded with a chuckle before jogging to catch up with Danny. "Sorry." she murmured.

William started his routine first thing in the morning. He got up and had a simple breakfast. He then went outside and cut some fire wood. He had a large stock pile next to his shed. He took some larger logs and cut them into smaller pieces for better use in the fire place. He placed the wood inside next to the fireplace once it was cut.

He then went to tend to the small vegetable garden he had planted in a meadow nearby. He used the stream to irrigate the land to help the plants grow better. He picked a few to eat for lunch and dinner. He then dealt with any weeds in the garden and made sure the protection against wild animals was still in place. The last thing he needed was a deer eating his food source. After making sure the precautions were still in place, he left to return home with his picked vegetables.

He used the stream near his house to wash the vegetables and took them inside. He placed them in the small fridge to keep them good to eat. With his food put away, he went for his morning bath. He did this after gardening because gardening just got him dirty.

He placed his clothes aside and bathed in the pond created by the dam. It was very relaxing. He took his time washing himself and just sitting in the water. When he was done, he got up and dried himself with a towel. He dressed once more and went to make a lunch. He ate well, knowing he might not be back home for a while. He was running low on meat and needed to go hunting again.

After his lunch, he went out to his shed and took his rifle. He also carried a large hunting knife. He needed to be careful out in the forest. His home was fairly safe because of precautions taken, but the forest was full of cougars and bears. If he wasn't armed well, he could easily be killed. He strapped the knife where it would be accesible. He set up his back pack that would let him carry heavy loads home, so he would not have to leave his kill behind. He didn't want to lose any of the meat.

He looked quite formidable as he walked into the forest to hunt. He was fairly tall at 6'2". His shoulders were broad and his body was muscular. Every evening he worked out. He also carried many heavy things each day. This resulted in him being quite stong. He wore dark clothes. His blue eyes scanned the environment and his stance showed that he was ready for anything. He did not shave, so he had a bushy beard and moustache. His light brown hair was long, past his shoulders. He had a feeling that if he was to show up in civilization, he would scare more than a few people.

As the girls made their way through the woods, Jewel began teasing Danny again about a guy that they had seen at the last check point and began laughing at the way Danny reacted. When Danny began getting tired of all the teasing, she turned and took off after Jewel, chasing the red head through the trees. "Jewel! Get your ass back here so I can kick it!" she called after the other girl. Jewel on the other hand ran along laughing, looking back over her shoulder at Danny. But what neither women knew was that Jewel was heading straight for the edge of a small cliff. By the time she notices it, it was too late to stop.

With a scream, Jewel fell down over the edge and she disappeared form Danny's sight, making the dark haired girls eyes widen and she rushed forward. "Jewel!" she screamed, running to the edge and looking down to see her friend laying there at the bottom of the steep cliff. "Jewel!" she cried but the other woman didn't reply except to shift slightly with a groan. Looking around, Danny removed her pack and quickly unraveled the rope attached to it and began lowering it down. "Jewel, grab onto the rope!" she called down to Jewel who looked up at her.

As she crawled towards where the rope was hanging down, a large tan animal emerged from the trees. At first Danny didn't recognize it but as it got closer, she screamed. "Hurry! Jewel, hurry! There's a cougar!" she screamed down to Jewel and the red head did her best to hurry but the cat was to fast. The animal grabbed Jewel by the leg and clamped down on her calf before dragging her off into the woods while Danny screamed. The animal disappeared with Jewel into the underbrush while the red head fought against it but as she was drug, her head struck a rock and she passed out.

For an hour, William stalked through the forest, listening and watching for any signs of game. He soon found traces of a cougar in the area. That set him onto high alert. He needed to be very careful. He started to walk big and tall. He needed to appear as large as possible to any cougars. He was not too worried. He had fought off a cougar once before. He had a scar on his arm because of it, but the cougar was dead.

He went for another half hour through the trees. That was when he heard a scream. A woman was screaming the word "Jewel" He wondered what was going on. He moved fast in the direction of the cries. He heard more. Apparently Jewel was refering to a person. He remembered that there was a trail near by with a steep cliff in certain places. He guessed he was near one of those. He continued to run, hoping the person was ok.

He heard the word cougar being screamed and he slowed himself. He eventually stopped and listened. He heard a struggle and the sounds of something being dragged along the ground. He swore under his breath and drew his knife. He moved silently through the trees. When he saw the beast dragging a female form, he knew what he had to do.

He stepped out from behind the tree and yelled out at the cougar. He wielded his knife in one hand. The cougar stopped and looked up at him. He yelled out at it again as he moved closer. He readied himself in case the beast pounced at him. The cougar was not happy and he knew it would not run away. He was getting in the way of it and a meal. It would not appreciate that. Willam got closer and closer, prepared that at any moment, the animal could be flying through the air toward him.

When he got close enough, he stared at the Cougar. He crouched and yelled at it again. Then he leapt toward it. He tackled it away from the girl. The cougar flailed and scratched him. He cursed and threw it off to one side. He got to one knee and leapt at it again as it got to its feel. He sent the knife into its side. He cut through it, leaving a large gash. He withdrew the knife and stabbed at it again. He stabbed it repeatedly. Once he was sure it was dead he cleaned his knife on the fur of the dead beast and stood up.

He moved quickly over to the motionless female form. He frowned and knelt next to her. Luckily she had a pulse. That was a very good thing. He took off his pack and set it up so he could carry her home. He used his emergency medical supplies to bandage any wounds he found. He would need to clean the bite in her leg when he got her back. It would be bad if that got infected. He lifted her onto his back in the strap system and started the long hike home. The soft feeling of her chest expanding and contracting even a little against his back reasured him that she was still alive as he walked as fast as he could to get home so he could help her better.

It was an hour later when he got her back to his cabin. He put her down softly and lifted her onto his bed. He tried to check her body for any wounds and found it hard checking through her clothes. He removed her clothing and hoped that she would not mind since it was in an attempt to help her heal well. He did not even look or care about it at the time anyway since he was more focused on helping her. He did a full check of her for injuries of any sort. He treated them using his stock of medical supplies. Once he was done bandaging her up and making sure she had no broken bones, he covered her with the bedsheets and a blanket to keep her warm.

He went and washed the blood from himself quickly before getting into clean clothes. He put his things away and cleaned his knife and gun. Once it was all away, he made himself a dinner. He also prepared a soup for the girl in case she woke up soon. He ate sitting in a chair next to the bed, watching her, hoping she would be ok. Even with his help he was not sure if it would do any good. He was no doctor.

Somewhere as she was being dragged, Jewel lost her pack and a small trail of blood had been left until a large man stopped the animal. After she had been released, blood began to seep from the wound in her leg and cover the grass and leaves that covered the ground around her. During the fight between man and beast, the woman's eyes slowly opened with a weak moan of pain and she saw the blurry figures of the man and cougar fighting before she passed out again. But whether it was from blood loss or shock was a bit unclear. As he checked her over he would find several nasty bumps, bruises and cuts on her exposed skin from the fall from the cliff and being dragged through the woods. There was one fairly nasty cut and bump on her forehead from the fall and another on the back of her head, though not as bad as the other, that was from being dragged.

As he lifted her up, she remained silent and completely still except for the rise and fall of her chest. But as he set her down on the bed, she groaned in pain but didn't wake as he began removing her clothing and tending to her wounds. While there were a couple of bad ones, the worst of all of them was the one on her leg. There were a series of deep punctures and gashes from the cougar grabbing her bared calf and dragging her. Luckily, however, there was nothing broken so he didn't have to worry about those.

For the next couple of hours, Jewel remained unconscious. But as the end of the third hour rolled around, she finally began stirring. She softly whimpered and her eyes closed a little tighter before fluttering a little and she moved slightly while furrowing her eyebrows. As she opened her eyes, everything seemed blurry and unfocused.

Meanwhile, Danny had finally managed to get down the cliff and she made her way in the direction that the cougar had gone, following the trail through the grass until she found a large puddle of blood from where the cougar had stopped. She didn't see Jewel nor did she see the cougar, which had probably been dragged off by some other predator. But she didn't know that and she instantly thought the worst. Turning, she ran back the way she had come while tears filled her eyes.

Willam spent the first hour just sitting and watching the girl as she lay there on the bed. He occasionally checked her head and leg to make sure those wounds had not started bleeding again. The head wounds worried him because cuts to the head often bled a lot more than any other wound. The leg worried him because it was a bite wound. He would need to watch that for days to make sure it was not infected. He just hoped that the girl would pull through.

The second hour he tried to relax some more. He made sure the soup stayed warm, hoping she would wake sooner than later. He also played some oft music for his own enjoyment, but also hoping to make the girl rest better. He really wanted to do all he could to help her.

During the third hour he sat in the chair next to the bed reading the book he was currently working on. Whenever he heard the girl making noise, he looked up. He was constantly dissapointed that she was not awake, but was glad to hear noise. He hoped it meant she would wake soon. He still read, but was on alert. He made sure the soup and some tea were prepared for her if she wanted it.

When he finally saw her face moving a little, he was very happy. He watched as her eyes opened. He put down his book and turned off the music. He moved next to the bed and stood next to her. He placed a hand on her shoulder to prevent her from sitting up. "Hello there. Just relax and lay back. You had a nasty accident. Can you tell me how you are feeling?"

Just as she was about to sit up in the bed she was laying in, she felt a hand on her shoulder and she looked up at him as he spoke, blinking a couple of times to try and clear her eyesight. "W-where am I?" she asked softly, her voice a little raspy as she spoke, obviously a side effect of screaming earlier. She blinked several more times before her eyesight cleared up and she looked up at him, confusion filling her face as she looked at him. It took a moment before his question finally sank in and she placed a hand against her forehead before jerking her hand away a moment later when she lightly bumped the wound on her forehead.

"My head's killing me." she murmured while blinking again. She closed her eyes with a soft groan. It felt like someone was hitting her in the head with something, but with her eyes closed it wasn't quite so bad. For a little while, she laid there trying to will the pain in her head away. She didn't feel the pain in her leg yet though. After a couple of minutes she looked up at him again. "What... what happened?" she asked softly.

Slowly she opened her eyes once again and looked up at him. Jewel couldn't remember what had happened. In fact, she couldn't remember much of anything at the moment and she was getting worried about why she couldn't remember anything. She gazed up into his face, trying to remember whether or not she knew him while also waiting for him to answer her questions. The woman shifted in the bed a little and pulled the cover a little closer, not yet realizing that she wasn't wearing anything.

William smiled down at her as she finally seemed to be able to focus her eyes. As he had expected, she wondered where she was. He would explain it to her soon enough. First he wanted to know how she was feeling. He wanted to know if she could feel anything that he may have missed. He watched as her hand touched one of her head wounds and she pulled it away quickly. He could see the pain on her face.

When she told him her head was in pain, he nodded. He would get her some sort of pain killers for that. He just waited until she opened her eyes again. He wanted to know if anything else really hurt at all. She only asked what happened. He sighed. That wasn't good. He just hoped she remembered who she was. That was something to discuss later though. He stepped back and decided to bring her the food and tea now and then tell her what he knew. "Just wait for a minute. I made you some tea and soup. I'll get it for you."

He went to the kitchen quickly and got the soup. He took it and the tea back into the bedroom and placed them on the side table next to her. He pulled the chair close to the bed and sat next to her. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He started to explain. "Well, this is what I know about the events leading up until now. I was going through the forest, hunting, when I heard someone screaming the name 'Jewel'. I ran to see what had happened. I know that there is a hiking trail near there and there is a steep cliff. I heard something about a cougar being screamed as well. The first thing I saw was a cougar dragging you along the ground. I attacked it and killed it. I then got out back here. This is my home. It is a cabin that I built in this forest. My name is William. When I got you here I did all I could to bandage any of your wounds. You have been unconscious for a few hours at least." With that he stopped and let her absorb all the information about what had happened.

The sight of his smile told her that he was a kind and gentle man and something told her that she could trust him even though she didn't know him. She slowly relaxed in the bed once again and looked to him as he told her that he'd get some tea and soup. She smiled softly and nodded slightly before closing her eyes with a sigh and waiting for him to return to the bedroom. While she waited for him, she slowly looked around at her surroundings, her eyes slowly moving over the bedroom.

From what she could see, she was in a wooden house.... a cabin perhaps. But she couldn't be too sure, though she was almost positive since the inside of the bedroom was made of wood. Though it was definitely cozy and nice with a gentle woodsy smell to it. When he returned, she looked up at him as he placed the tea and soup down, the smell of the food making her stomach growl softly. "Can I sit up to eat?" she asked softly.

But her attention was drawn back to him as he explained to her what he knew about what happened. As he spoke, the look of confusion on he face just grew. She didn't remember any of that and while the name Jewel was slightly familiar, she couldn't place it. "I... I don't remember that." she said softly. "I don't remember any of that." She was beginning to get frustrated as she tried to remember. After several minutes of trying to force herself to remember, she looked up at him and shook her head. "Why... why can't I remember?" A moment later she placed a hand against her head with a groan as her head ache got stronger and she closed her eyes with another groan.

He looked at her and saw that she was very confused. She told him she didn't remember any of it. He frowned. That was not a good thing. She asked why she couldn't remember, then appeared to be in pain. That was very bad. He helped her sit up and handed her the tea to drink. He hoped it would help her feel a bit better.

He tried to give her his best explaination. "Well, I think you don't remember it because of your fall. I am fairly sure you hit your head when you fell and hit your head again on a rock when the cougar dragged you away. That is probably also why your head hurts. Can you remember anythign from your past? Don't try to think of it too hard if you can't, just tell me if there are any memories that stick out." He was very worried about her. He really hoped that she would recover from her pain. He could do nothing about her memory, but getting rid of pain would be very good.

She slowly sat up with his help and looked up at him again before taking the tea from him. "Thank you." she whispered before taking a sip of it, letting the steam from the cup rise into her face and warm her skin. She was clearly concerned about why she was having such problems remembering. She listened to his explanation while staring down at the tea and she sighed while lightly touching her bandaged head then sipping from her tea again.

Jewel tried to remember something... anything. But nothing came at the moment and she sighed while shaking her head. "No. I can't." she said softly. "I can't remember anything. I get... momentary flashes of faces and places, but that's it. Other then that I can't remember anything." She closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose before sipping the tea once again and leaning back against the pillows behind her. She was beginning to get tired again but she wanted to stay up a little longer before finally sleeping again.

William waited and watched Jewel as she sat, drinking her tea and trying to remember something. Unfortunately she couldn't. He frowned and sighed. He really hoped it wasn't something serious. If it was brain damage of some sort, that would be very bad. If it was something simpler he would be more relieved. He decided that once she was feeling better he would suggest taking her into the nearest town to have the doctor take a look at her. It would be up to her though, even if he was sure she would want to know what was wrong with her.

He picked up the soup and handed it to her with a smile. "Here, you should eat something and then get more sleep. In the morning I will see how you are feeling. I am hoping that your pain will go away fairly quickly. I will do all I can to help you. After you go to sleep I will get some sleep myself in the living room. If you need anything, you just need to call me. ok?"

Jewel softly sighed as she sat there. She had noticed that he was watching her as she sat there drinking the tea, her fingers slowly running over the rim of the cup she held while she stared down into the cup. When he picked up the soup and handed it to her, she looked up and smiled gently before taking another sip of the tea and then setting it aside then she took the bowl from him. "Thank you for taking such good care of me." she said softly. "Even though I'm an absolute stranger." She picked up the spoon in the bowl and took a bite of the soup while he told her to get some sleep.

"What... what should I call you?" she asked him before taking another spoonful of soup and eating it. Never did it cross her mind that such a large man could hurt her or do her some kind of harm without much effort. She was both too tired to really consider it and for some reason she trusted him to really believe such a though if it did pass through her mind. He seemed to nice and caring.

When she thanked him, he just smiled at her. He didn't need thanks. Helping her had been the right thing to do. She asked what she should call him and he suddenly realised that he had not introduced himself. He blushed a bit and quickly responded. "My name is William, but you can call me Will if you want. I'm sorry for not introducing myself sooner. I'm afraid that I've been away from people for so long that I forget certain things. Anyway, yes, if you need to call me just call out Will. I will come as quickly as I can. Are you enjoying the soup?" He nodded toward the bowl, wondering if he had made a good soup or not. He had used what he had. He wanted to make her as comfortable as possible there. He wanted her to heal quickly and heal well.

She paused in her eating when he introduced himself and she smiled at him. "William." she murmured with a slight nod before chuckling at his obvious embarrassment at forgetting to introduce himself and she shook her head. "It's quite alright. I'd introduce myself, but I can't seem to remember who I am." she said, taking an obvious jab at her current situation which showed that she usually took things in stride. At his question about the soup, she smiled and took another bite before nodding. "Yes, I am." she replied before looking down into the bowl. "What's in it?" she asked before eating a little more. She put down the spoon and covered her mouth as she yawned.

William nodded at her comment about her not even knowing her name. He would be calling her Jewel. It seemed right and also seemed appropriate. He was happy when she said she liked the soup. That was a good thing. She asked what was in it and he tried to remember what he had added. He started listing ingredients. "Well, there is some rabbit meat in there. I think the rest is mostly stuff from my vegetable garden. Some carrots, turnip, a little bit of potato. Oh, and I think I threw in what I had left of the deer that I had. I thought of making a stew, but felt a soup would be better for you right now. I am glad you like it. I have only been cooking for myself for a long time."

He smiled and took note that she seemed tired. He stood up and went toward the door. He stopped and looked back in for a moment. "You should get some sleep now. It will do you a lot of goood. I hope you sleep well. I will just be in the other room. Call for me if you need anything at all. Goodnight Jewel." He gave a parting smile and a wave before leaving and closing the door.

He went and sat in his comfortable chair. Luckily he had decided to bring a couch as well for some reason. He had never expected company, but at least he didn't have to sleep on the floor now. He relaxed for a while thinking about the day. A lot would change now. He realised that he would need to make a trip into town to buy a lot of things. He would do that tomorrow or the day after depending on how Jewel was feeling. He might even take her with him. He also realised that it may be time to shave for the first time in four years. He didn't want to scare the girl at all, or the people in town when he went there. He decided to get it over with.

He took a knife and went out to the stream. He slowly and carefully used the sharp blade to trim down the hair and then shave it off of his face. He used extreme caution with the edge so close to his neck. It took him a fair bit of time, but by the time he was finished his face was as smooth as it had been when he was born. He washed his face and sighed. He watched the hair drift down the stream. He entered the cabin again and looked in the mirror. The difference was shocking. It would take a while to get used to it, but it was nessecary. A beard would start growing back soon and it would look better than the big bushy thing he'd had before. He yawned and found an extra blanket. Curling up on the couch he fell asleep. His thoughts were all about Jewel, hoping she would feel at least a little better in the morning.

As William went over what was in the soup, she stared down into the bowl. Something told her that she'd never eaten rabbit nor deer before, but for some reason she didn't really mind too much and she just took another bite of the food. Slowly she nodded when he mentioned about cooking just for himself for a long time. "I don't think I've eaten deer and rabbit before, but it's pretty good." she said gently between bites. After a little bit, she put the bowl aside and slowly laid down with a sigh. The young woman glanced up at him again as he moved over to the door and she smiled up at him when he told her that she should get some sleep and she nodded in agreement.

"I think I will." she murmured with a soft yawn. "Thank you again for taking care... of me. Goodnight William." With another smile, she nestled down into the bed and closed her eyes. It didn't take long for the girl to fall fast asleep, pulling the covers up around her a little more with a soft sigh. That night, her dreams were strange and very unusual, filled with flashes of a feline and screaming. As she slept, she tossed and turned before waking up sometime mid-morning in a cold sweat, sitting straight up in the bed. For several long minutes she just sat there gasping for breath before she swallowed hard and laid back down with a sigh.

Her head didn't hurt as much as it had the day before and she was beginning to feel the bite in her leg, both pains a slight throbbing which was uncomfortable but not painful. She slowly turned over onto her side and closed her eyes, trying to fall back asleep but it seemed that she wouldn't be able to for a while.

When William woke early in the morning he got up and first checked the bedroom to see if Jewel might be up. She was still asleep in the bed. He smiled and closed the door softly. He turned and went into the kitchen. He made himself a simple breakfast while preparing one for Jewel as well. He put that aside for when she woke. He ate his meal slowly in the living room. He looked out of the window and enjoyed the beauty of the early morning.

William walked out of the cabin and went to the stream. He undressed and slipped into the water. He bathed and relaxed in the water. The cool feeling on his freshly shaven face was strange but nice. He got out of the water and dried himself off. After dressing he went for a small walk. He arrived at a walled area with a large gate. He opened it and entered.

Soon after he had started building his home he had realised that while hunting and planting vegetables could give him some food, he would need some other food dources to help his diet. He had built this large animal pen that let in sunlight and had a stream through it, but kept out any predators. He had a few goats since they were easier to keep than cows. He also had some chickens. He usually tended to them in the afternoon, but he had found Jewel and needed to care for her. He now made sure that the animals were fed. He then milked the goats and picked up the eggs from the chickens.

He returned to the cabin and washed the eggs. After placing them and the milk in the fridge, he returned to the bedroom. He slowly opened the door and peeked in. When he saw that Jewel was awake, he smiled. Her eyes were closed, but she did not look asleep. He did not enter the room, he just spoke quietly. "Good morning Jewel. If you are ready to get up for the day, I have breakfast made for you. I can bring it in if you want."

A she laid there, Jewel heard William move around. Or at least she thought it was him. After all, she didn't know if he was living with any one. She didn't know how long she laid there until William opened the door then spoke. After hearing his voice, she slowly opened her eyes and looked over at him and smiled gently. Her long curly red hair was splayed out on the pillow beneath her head and most of her color, which had disappeared the day before, had come back which caused her cheeks to become a light red color. "Good morning William." she said softly before smiling a little wider when she noticed that he had shaved off his beard. "I see you shaved."

Slowly she sat up while holding the covers against her. Her head spun momentarily before stopping and she brushed her hair back from her face. "I would actually like to get up, but until you say my leg is alright to walk on, I guess I'll take my breakfast in here." she said softly with a slight nod. A moment later she looked down at herself then back up at him and sheepishly asked "And... um, do you know if I have any clothes?" Her question caused her cheeks to redden even more with embarrassment as she waited for an answer from him.

William saw Jewel's eyes open and smiled at her warmly. At first glance she seemed to be doing better. She commented that he had shaved and he nodded. He watched as she sat up in bed. He tried to see any signs of something that may be wrong, but saw no real pain on her face. That was a good thing. She suggested getting out of bed if she could. Then asked him about clothes. He suddenly remembered that he'd removed them to tend her wounds better. He had not yet cleaned them though. They would still have blood stains. He frowned slightly.

He opened the door more so there was not a barrier between them. He thought for a moment and then decided what to do. He smiled at her again. "I'm glad you noticed that I shaved. I felt my beard was a little untame and possibly scary. Anyway, you were only bit on the leg, no broken bones that I could find and you would have felt the pain from it if it was broken. It should be fine to walk on if you are not too dizzy or your head does not hurt when you stand. As for your clothes, I have them but they are stained with blood and dirt. I will clean them as soon as I can. In the mean time, the best I have is some of my old clothing. It may be a bit baggy, but it should at least cover you up. Sorry, I should have cleaned your clothes sooner." He leaned against the door frame, waiting for her decision. He was fairly sure he knew what it would be, but wanted to give her the choice anyway.

Jewel patiently waited for Williams answer. She could see him mulling over the answers before finally speaking. The woman smiled gently as he speak, nodding slowly as he explained about her leg and her clothing. "Okay." she murmured while sitting up a little more. Pulling up the blankets a bit, she looked down at her bandaged leg and sighed while gingerly touching the bandages where some blood had soaked through. "You look good without the beard. Not that you looked bad with it or anything, I just mean you look even better." She trailed off with a sigh and bowed her head, feeling like a idiot because she couldn't even say something right at the moment.

At the mention of him washing her clothing, she looked up at him and shook her head. "You don't have to hurry and do that." she said softly. "If they're in too bad of shape, you can just throw them out I suppose." When he offered her some of his older clothing, she smiled gratefully and nodded. "I think I'd like a pair of shorts and a shirt, if that's alright with you."

She blushed a little and smiled sheepishly up at him before looking down at her leg again. "How... how bad is it?" she asked him. "My leg, I mean. How bad is the bite? Right now it hurts a bit, but not too much. Just a dull throbbing pain." She brushed her messy, mane of red curls back over her shoulder and out of her face before running her fingers over her leg again. The bandages would have to be changed soon but she wasn't too concerned with that at the moment.

William smiled at her comment about him looking better without the beard. Her fumbling with words made him chuckle quietly for a moment. He nodded when she said that if herclothes were bad enough, he could just toss them away. He thought about what she requested in the way of clothing. He was sure he had some shorts that were too small for him now somewhere in the closet.

She asked about her leg and he moved over to the bed. He sat on the foot of the bed and slid the sheets up her leg just far enough so he could see the wound properly. He smiled when he saw it. It did not look like it was swelling. That was a good thing. He looked up at her, glad her leg appeared to be doing well. "It looks good. I will change the bandages now while I am looking at it. It does not look infected and it did not appear to do any major tissue damage. You should heal just fine." He smiled and slowly unwrapped the bandage. Once it came off he quickly went and got a fresh one. He carefully wrapped it around her leg. When he finished he stood and smiled happily at her.

The next thing he did was go hunting in his closet. He found an old pile of clothes and searched through it. One he found an old pair of shorts and a decent t-shirt, he tossed them onto the bed for her. He got up and emerged from the closet. He picked up the clothes and handed them to her. He finally stepped out of the room so he could let her get dressed.

She was still blushing when he approached the bed and sat down. As the sheets were slid up, she stretched out her leg for him to take a look at it, though she felt her cheeks heat up even more as her bare leg was exposed even more. The woman watched silently as he looked at her leg then up at her and her eyebrows lifted curiously before he told her that he leg looked good and she sighed in relief while smiling a him. She watched on as the bandages were removed, wincing slightly when some dried blood pulled at the tender broken skin of the bite. A sigh slipped past her lips when he finished unwrapping her leg and she turned her leg slightly to look at it before looking up as he left. Once her leg was wrapped up again, she flexed her leg a couple of times while he went hunting for clothing.

Jewel grinned and softly chuckled as he threw clothing onto the bed and she adjusted her grip on the sheet. "Thank you William." she murmured after he handed them to her and she waited until after he left to begin changing. Pushing the covers back, she swung her legs around so they were hanging off the edge of the bed before picking up the shirt and slipping it on. She was a little stiff from all the bruises and scrapes that were from the fall off the cliff and the drag through the woods. The woman stood up on shaking legs after slipping her feet into the shorts and she pulls them up.

With a sigh and a slight nod, she slowly limps over to the door and opens it. She had to hold the shorts up because they were a tad baggy on her slender form and his shirt seemed to just swallow her whole, making her look even smaller.
