Jim carefully checked the market that day. He had two obsessions and the market was the second of the two. Watching as the familiar ticker sympols passed by, he realized he was going to fulfill his dream. His dream of owning the perfect house.
The down payment was made and he was now beginning to recoup his losses. He just had to make it perfect! He should have put more money into his money market, but he was smarter than the market. He would play on margin for another 6 months and then he would be okay. The reason for the margin calls was the second of his obsessions and that was (insert your name here). You see, (xxx) liked impressionist paintings or so Jim thought.
They worked together, but (xxx) hardly paid him the time of day. He was in finance and she liked to talk with the sales and marketing people. Anyway, he always found a way to pass by her cube and one day as he walked by he saw she was looking at some impressionist paintings. Coming back with his coke, he saw her still looking, apparently not knowing she was being spied upon and he saw her looking at another one. This one wasn't so famous, but was made by one of the living masters. Jim researched it and saw that it sold for $80,000 and checked the artwork every day. He also knew with (xxx) impeccable tastes that it would be perfect above the mantel in his study. Searching the gallery website every day, Jim saw that very painting go on auction.
Selling that days proceeds, he put his bid in and played it cool. He entered the bidding late and got it at $65,000. Even Jim knew it was a steal. Picking up the iphone, Jim saw the painting was now framed and ready to be picked up. The final piece of his perfect house. Everything had been done with (xxx) in mind. Even the indoor pool and sun room. Imagining (xxx) adoring the painting, he carefully composed his first IM to her.
"Hi (xxx), you don't really know me outside of lunch but I am in finance. Anyway, I am getting this painting in my house this evening and was wondering if you could help me place it?" He even put a smiley face after the painting.
Looking down embarrassed, Jim attached the picture of the painting and hit "send". Getting up, Jim went to a cube to work so he wouldn't have to face (xxx) when she got the message.
