Jay Carter's life had changed drastically and was sure to change some more. Jay is eighteen years old, about to turn nineteen in a couple of weeks. He is currently sitting at a large oak desk in front of a computer which is located in a lavish study. The desk is covered in empty Doritos bags and empty Mt. Dew cans. The room could have been taken off the set of any mansion you may see on TV except for the clutter. The walls we covered with bookshelves filled with books. There are ferns, a nice leather sofa with a coffee table in front, a couple leather chairs, and various paintings scattered tastefully throughout the room.
This study is Jay’s. A few months before it belonged to an Uncle that he wasn’t aware he had. The only family Jay knew of before was his twin sister Brea and his mother Allison. The only changes Jay had made were to add as much soda as he could fit in the wet bar, and to put in a giant TV hooked up to a gaming system.
Jay was average looking, and tall at about six feet tall. He weighed in at about 175 pounds. His brown hair was miskept and his eyes dark brown. He had the beginnings of a scraggly moustache and spotty beard as he didn’t shave every day. He was dressed in a pair of faded jeans with a pair of tattered black Chuck Taylors on his feet. He was also wearing a plain white t-shirt over which he is wearing a grey zip-up hoody that he has the hood up over his head, hiding his face and somewhat pleasant features; as was his habit.
Jay and his family had lived together in a nice, but not lavish house. Allison worked hard as a personal assistant for a powerful and somewhat mysterious lawyer, August Franks, that both he and Brea met occasionally at office picnics and such. Jay’s mother was not overly bright but was considered hot, or so he heard guys whisper. But Jay never said anything to them about it as it wasn’t his style to be confrontational. As a matter of fact he was a quiet guy, a loner. He preferred being alone with his games and books, which led to good grades in school but no friends. Jay excelled in science and was deciding where to go to college and what avenue of scientific study to pursue when his family life was disturbed, in what some might consider an advantageous manner.
Jay and his family had a normal routine. His was a hermit routine of playing video games, studying, doing experiments or setting up for experiments in the chemistry lab at school, or running cross country. Jay had always been a good runner as a kid since it helped him escape bullies. Now running helped him clear his mind and focus his mind on whatever he needed to think about. He only felt comfortable when he sought out contact with Brea or Allison. He tried to avoid contact with others whenever he could. He loved his family but was just socially awkward, even with them it seemed.
His twin Brea was almost a complete opposite. Although she was a little on the shy side, she was nowhere near as shy as her brother. She isn’t overly out going, but is fairly popular and isn’t afraid to try and make new friends. She is average in intelligence, but not as advanced as her twin. She loves Jay but rarely acknowledges him in public, as it would harm her social standing and also make Jay very uncomfortable. Brea is a beautiful young girl on the edge of womanhood and is trying to spread her wings, which causes her to question her mother’s authority and rebel. She loves to sneak out and hang with friends. She is popular with a few of the guys, but is always dressing in a risqué manner whenever possible to attract more attention from guys. She isn’t happy with her slender build and secretly idolizes the curves of her mother.
Allison is a beautiful woman by anyone’s definition. She worked long hours at the law firm to provide for her family by herself. When the question of her twins father she either refused to tell or seemed almost unsure or unwilling to say who he was. Her incredible body and her beautiful good looks kept her always with a date, but she never seemed to get serious with a man. So Allison was constantly at work or on a date.
Their normal life was interrupted when August Franks came and picked them up. He was vague to both Brea and Jay about the reason, while Allison sat in the front of the Mercedes with August with a pleased smile on her face and never said a word. After a couple hours of riding August pulls up in front of a huge mansion. After going inside August proceeds to tell them that it is theirs along with a very large sum of money. It seemed that Allison had an Uncle that she never knew about named, Franklin.
Franklin was extremely wealthy due to inventing some secret formula and selling it years ago. He lived a secretive life and never contacted his family. Allison seemed confused about Franklin, but never seemed to question the inheritance. Brea didn’t either, but Jay thought it strange. He especially thought it strange when August secretly pulled him aside giving him a sixteen digit code written on the back of one of Franklin’s business card along with “Enjoy your Odyssey”.
So that takes the story to now with Jay sitting bleary eyed in front of the computer at his desk. Files and journals are strewn across the desk. It was late at night and he was the only one home. Allison was out on another endless date and Brea was off hanging with some new friends she had made. They were both enjoying their new digs and newfound wealth. Allison had discovered a new town full of cute men to go out with each night. Brea was also enjoying the new town as there were totally new people to meet. And Jay still was a hermit. While he did splurge for a new gaming system and large screen TV, he stayed inside, except for going out for long runs to think.
For over two weeks Jay had practically lived in the study. A couple weeks ago he had started trying to find out what the code on the card meant. He was trying all types of combinations and permutations of the code Franklin had written on the card. Nothing seemed to be happening. He tried every various possibilities for the digits with no luck. Frustrated, Jay went to the wet bar and pulled out a Mountain Dew. Taking a sip he thought what the numbers could mean as he looked about the room. He was looking at the books when it struck him. Walking over to the books he eventually finds what he is looking for. Seeing a copy of Homer’s The Odyssey, he reaches up and grabs it and pulls it from the shelf. Jay then hears a small click, and then is startled as the case slides open revealing a hidden door with a digital number pad on it. Taking a shot he punched in the code and the door swings open.
Inside Jay sees a hallway that goes to the left and right both stopping in front of more security locked doors. Also directly across the hall is another security door. In front of this door is a stack of twelve cardboard file boxes with a note taped to it. The note says “Congratulations! You solved the first puzzle Franklin wanted you to figure out. Now read all of these files and it will give you an idea of what his work entailed. It will also give you some insight into your family if you pay attention. Once you have read all of this, call me and I will help you get into the securely locked labs. Until then, keep this secret from everyone. August Franks”
At first Jay was shocked, but next his curiosity got the best of him. Grabbing the first box he leaves and shuts the secret door behind him. He immediately sits at the desk and opens the box full of files and journals and starts studying the contents.
So for the last two weeks Jay has rarely left the study. He finally plows through the last folder, only to find a pass code to break into a hidden section of files on Franklin’s computer. Jay sits back with his head swimming. The chain of events that uprooted his family was mind boggling. But what he had read in the files was downright bizarre. He was reluctant to look at the computer files, afraid of what they might hold.
He was capable of crunching vast amounts of information and digesting it, but this was a lot for him. What he had just read about Franklin’s work was astounding. According to what he had read Franklin was able to find which parts of DNA affected certain traits and modify them for short periods of time; sometimes permanently. This had proved useful to the Defense Department, so they were interested in certain portions of his research. Other areas they didn’t really care about. These areas are what Jay had been studying for two weeks non-stop. According to the files he was able to change the size of a woman’s breasts, buttocks, or hips for example. The work also claimed to be able to influence bone structure, musculature, hair color, or eye color. The files also claim that he could influence sex drive and other hormonal aspects.
All that was shocking enough, but Franklin claimed to have created a hypnotizing device after getting the idea from Men in Black. With this device he claimed to be able to black out certain memories and influence certain behaviors. There were side effects, but he was still at work on reducing them.
In the midst of all the information, there was a family picture album stashed in the boxes. In the pictures was a picture of who he guessed was Franklin and his wife. It was taken in the early eighties. With them were a couple of preteen girls. Both were dark headed and tall and lanky and one was labeled Allison while the other Victoria. Jay deduced that it was his mother and her cousin. The album was normal in that it showed a normal progression of family get together and holidays. What was strange is that Allison looked really different as she aged. She was lanky and flat chested along with not being overly attractive and dark headed. Victoria was unspectacular just like Allison. But suddenly the two eighteenish aged girls had curvy figures with large heavy breasts, nice asses, and beautiful long legs. Both girls hair had changed to blond and their eyes to blue along with pouty lips. Instead of the frumpy clothing the girls preferred in earlier had changed to clingy and revealing. They seemed fond of wearing skimpy bikinis. Jay could see Allison and Victoria in the hot females toward the end of the album, but he had to really concentrate.
Another thing he noticed that the look in their eyes changed. There seemed to be a blankness there. He had seen that look on occasion in his mother’s eyes before, but not constantly. He wrote it off to the girls partying like any young woman might do. But he was puzzled about it. ‘I wonder if they were just late bloomers? Or did he practice on his daughter and niece? Can he do what these files say he can do?’ he thought as he laid down the album and closed it.
Jay was about to break into the secret partition on the computer when he heard Brea trying to sneak into the house, even though she was grounded. She had made the mistake of sneaking in after one of Allison’s dates had ended. Jay knew it was Brea because Allison wouldn’t try to sneak into her own house. For some reason he felt the need to talk with Brea let her know about their mysterious uncle.
He went out of his study just in time to catch her sneaking up the stairs. “You have a good time sis?” he called from the dark doorway towards his twin who didn’t know he was there. Laughing a little because he realized he startled his sister, Jay notices how pretty his twin is. If he’s right about his mother, she is more beautiful than his mom was before her transformation. ‘If the files are right we could make Brea so beautiful that everyone would want her as a model.' he randomly thinks to himself, curious about the possibilities. Jay then says “Sorry sis (snicker)! Didn’t mean to startle you. Can I show you something? It’s about Uncle Franklin. There are some things I’ve found and I want to let you in on the secret, but you can’t tell anyone. And I mean anyone. Can I bring something up to your room?” he says.
