Some say that just because you're different than others that you have to be placed in a certain clique in school. Like the guys who dress great, play sports and alternately pick on some of the younger or weaker people of the school are called the jocks. Then there are the wannabe's who stalk after every person they wish they were such as the preps to gain popularity. They would go to extreme measures to do anything to get into the higher social ranking classes. Then there are some that are at the bottom of the food chain such as the geeks and nerds who are constantly picked on for their smarts and the lack of standing-up for themselves.
But have you ever wondered why they're like that? You know, that kid that is so alone out there, he doesn't like to be bothered? Everyone thinks that he's just too good for them but in reality, he just might be wanting someone to talk to him. Or maybe that girl who goes from guy to guy for the attention and everyone calls her the school's skank. Have you ever thought what the home-life is like? Maybe it's just that back home, they're treated differently than those around you.
This is the story of six high school teenagers who are just struggling to get through life. Whether it being problems with the family, addiction, emotional and physical struggles and even abuse. Little did they know how much they really needed each other until all ten were elected to go trip to represent their school in a world wide teen conference – or better known as: Challenge Day – in Tennessee. This is where friendship is made, secrets will be revealed and fun will insue. Welcome to Family Portraits.

Challenge Day is a non-profit organization that goes from high school to high school to gather teens from all grades with different backgrounds, looks and hobbies to discuss how they view the world and ways it can change, their family life, the way they live and the difficulties they face on a daily basis. Challenge Day isn't as easy as it sounds. When it comes down to the nitty-gritty you're always asked to meet someone new, whether it be someone from your school but never talked too or a person from a different school. It's an eye-opening experience because during the event you will be asked personal questions that you might actually think you're the only one who has ever had it down to themselves but you come to realize that you're not by yourself. There are plenty of others out there that face the same, if not, harder obstacles than you do.
The question is: Can you open up and face reality? Cause you aren't alone.
