There was a layer of freshly fallen snow on the forest floor of Argus. It was the Time of Harvest in the lands of Argus, and it was a chilly one. Once settled by the elves, their kind had long since disappeared from the lands, myths and legends. The Dwarves had once lived beside them but had long since become extinct. The forests and lands of Argus were the home to beasts of myth and legend, worgen, wamphyri, ogres, trolls, beasts of children stories.
Blackpool wasn't far from the queen's entourage. They had to travel at least 10 miles through the Ebony Forest, home to the Raven Guard. The Raven Guard was Blackpool's Rangers, defenders of the Ebony Forest and of Blackpool itself. They had earned the nickname, "the Whisper of the Forest". The moment the queen had entered the forest, unseen eyes were watching her. The rangers were primed and ready to strike at a moments notice if the queen was in danger.
The horses made their way along the forest road as another set of unseen eyes watched the queen and her entourage. The people of Blackpool were suffering at the hands of their king, Lord Edward Blackpool. Edward was waging stupid wars trying to obtain the high throne and to obtain more land. His people were dying from the Rat Plague and were being forced to pain taxes they couldn't afford and to add insult to injury, he was ignoring his queen the moment his son had been born. People were desperate and were willing to do just about anything to survive.
As the queen's guard were passing, a savage yell rang out as dozens of men wearing animal fur and using sickles, quartering knives, and wood axes began to race out of the brush, assaulting the queen's guard. The sound of steel clashing with steel rang out as the bandits began to kill the guard. The queen's guard were trained soldiers but the bandits were lightly dressed and able to move quicker, the knights were clunky and slow.
