Cobwebs (VanillaDelights and Blue Hatter)

It was a dark and dreary house, much of it in desperate need of repair, and no doubt anyone who saw it would do their best to simply steer clear of it altogether-- the place just had an undeniable "bad vibe" to it. But perhaps that was what most interesting about it, that obvious vibe, that clear sign that something wasn't quite right about the place. Haruka stood on the porch, staring up at the building in front of her, and even from there she could feel the darkness creeping from inside of it. Something had happened in there, something was in there, but she knew not what. Was it something evil? She didn't think so, but there was something unnerving in there nonetheless.

The sky was overcast and cloudy, and though the sun was out it could only barely be spotted between the occasional parting of cumulonimbus. The darkening sky was evidence that it would most likely start raining soon and Haruka very much wanted to avoid being stuck out in it, but for some reason she just couldn't bring herself to enter into the old house and seek its shelter... Even if she did own it now.

Haruka was a young woman of twenty-three, born to an American/Japanese family-- her mother being Japanese and her father being American-- and she had the darker skin of her mother and the bright blue eyes of her father. Her black hair was kept at shoulder-length, tied back neatly, though she had a single braided and beaded length of hair hanging down her forehead and near her left eye, and she was dressed in a simple orange T-shirt with the a picture of a teddy bear in punk rock gear printed on the front, "TEDDY ROCK" labeled over it in big bold letters. Her lower half was clad in a pair of old worn blue jeans and black knee-high boots. There were three silver necklaces around her neck, one with a cross hanging from it, and three bangles on each of her wrists. A black belt around her waist ensured that her pants stayed securely in place, and a yellow cloth bag was slung over her right shoulder.

Haruka was an interesting young woman, as it were, and not just because she was one of the very few people crazy enough to actually be interested in this house. Haruka was a sensitive, she could see, interact and communicate with the spirits of the dead. Of course, that also meant that she had seen her fair share of demons and other unsavory entities, but she had also met a good amount of friendly spirits. She worked as a secretary at a local bank but on the side she was a paranormal investigator of sorts who came in to help people in need and clear their house of the dead to the best of her abilities, or she would be able to instruct them as to what to do if it was out of her expertise and they would need the aid of a priest or shaman or something similar.

But that was not the only thing that made her "unique". A secret she kept from nearly everyone, except for her immediate family who knew since the day she was born, but Haruka was, in fact, "gifted" in another sense... She had the intimate bits of both the male and female genders. This fact was fun at times but at other times could really be a royal pain.

Back to the topic at hand, Haruka took a deep breath, slapped her cheeks until they were red to psych herself up, and finally stepped into the large, dilapidated building. Once inside the door swung closed behind her with an echoing slam, kicking up dust and dirt into the air that made her cough and her eyes water. She waved a hand about in front of her in an effort to fan away the debris but it did little good.

"What mess have I gotten myself into now?" she asked herself as her eyes gazed around the space in front of her. Even now she was still questioning her own logic.
