The buzz of the alarm on Jake's watch was perfectly in sync with the ringing of the one on the clock radio across the room from his bed. The blonde freshman rolled over and looked at the time while he tried to remember if either of the devices would shut down eventually or if he would have to get out from under the warmth of his covers.
Then the phone rang. One more thing that beckoned him to get up.
He sighed and folded the entirety of sheets, blankets, and comforter back as he say up. Jake reached the phone on the third or fourth ring and yawned into it, "Hello?"
"Yeah, I'm up. No, I didn't forget. The week's been just swamped so I set two...yes, two...alarms and took a nap. Just let me throw myself under the shower and I'll meet you. Outside the dorm or at the Union? 'Kay, 'kay...say, how fancy is this bar? General street clothes, yuppy/fratboy chic, or is there more of a theme to it?"
He nodded even though he was on the phone, then said goodbye to his roommate and began getting ready. He hadn't even told Jake why his week had been more hectic than usual. Audrey's lawyer had called. His adoptive mother had understood why he needed to connect with his birth mom, and Mr Ingram was doing the legwork for them.
It was all set for Sunday brunch. Tonight was only Friday, and Jake was going to make it a light weekend; but Tony had talked him into coming out and meeting some girls from Tony's English class as well as some prospective students visiting from one of the local high schools.
Who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky.
