I wasn't sure where to place this, but just thought I'd share for anyone interested in finding a quick and easy way to proof posts, and pick up those little annoying spelling and grammar errors that can easily slip though without being noticed.

I generally run my posts through here:

Paperrater

It only takes a minute or so, and (I think) it's helped improve my writing considerably.

Not sure how well it works to be honest - I just ran a ~6 paragraph post through it and the thing came up with 2 errors - one was:

'despite the knot in her stomach.' which it wanted me to change to 'not in her stomach' - which is just flat out wrong, since you don't have a 'not of anxiety' in your stomach.

And the other was:

'shivered as her thigh was kissed, then gasped as for the first time ever someone touched her between her legs.' - which it wanted me to remove entirely as not needed. True, that one could have been improved by strategically placed commas around the emboldened part there, but I think it proves that no paper proof reader can understand context and actually give an overly accurate series of corrections.

Suggests to me that simple spell check would be better for those who actually have the ability to proof-read their own work in reasonable time.

This is sweet of you. Thank you.

Definitely worth a shot with the amount of typos I can make when I try to rush through my 5-9 paragraph responses to get them done in a timely manner. Thank you.

BD,

No worries, I find it useful as I can struggle with proof-reading my own posts, due to the tendency to read 'what I think I've written, or what I should have', rather than what I actually have.

Demie,

I agree that sometimes it can't pick up the context, and will provide an incorrect word, such as with your 'knot' example. However, with the phrase 'for the first time ever', I don't think it was asking you to remove the entire phrase, but suggesting that it's a redundant expression, in that the word 'ever' adds nothing to the sentence. Those small grammatical things are where I've found it most useful, rather than as just a spellchecker. It allows me to think about 'is that word required, why did I use it?' Sometimes I agree, sometimes not.

In the same light, The Up-Goer Five Text Editor is probably not as useful. But, heck... imagine the humor value.

Oh my! I played around with this editor. It's impossible to write anything of substance. But amusing! I think every third word I tried to use was rejected. I had to forgo plucked for picked and coat for jacket. I couldn't think of an alternative to sleeves, which it also rejected. I love little "apps" like this, so much fun to explore.

Damn, I just tried it too, and I can't believe 'sex' isn't one of the ten-hundred most used words. (And no, I wasn't writing porn).

Edit: I did it!
