Jake would have been worried but over a year working retail had proved to him that he could not after all die of boredom. Mortal peril not withstanding he was just about out of his skull with how dreadfully slow the morning had been. Currently he languished with his handsome face held up on his fist and his elbow propped on the sales counter. He had already mopped the floors and faced the shelves and clothing racks twice all without seeing even a single customer. His muscular chest heaved as he exhaled a discontented sigh.
As a college student cash was always tight so a job was a necessity. At least he usually found something to enjoy about working at the trendy clothing store but today was brutally dull. He did have a good hand with the customers and his sales numbers were always great. A carefully placed compliment always helped someone feel better about making a purchase. He also especially enjoyed assisting the female shoppers and his bold approach had earned him a handful of phone numbers and a few dates in addition to good sales numbers. But today he hadn’t seen a soul to sell to, much less someone to flirt with.
The automatic doors swept open with a chime - emitting a shopper from the mall and also bringing Jake back to reality. He blinked his dreamy blue-green eyes as he slowly straightened and eyed the new arrival. A smile that was maybe just a touch too friendly, a touch too sly, to be professional quirked his lips and lit up his handsome face. She was a teenager to be sure but she was also a real cutie and there was no harm in flirting he told himself. He was awfully eager for a distraction today. He moved about the counter and effected a casually lean that showed off his well-sculpted twenty-something physique as he watched the girl, taking a moment to admire her and consider his approach.
