Show/Hide Content

I know this might be common knowledge I'm not sure..I took an html class when i went to school but that was forever ago..But i was wondering how easy and time consuming it is to hide content and stuff to make reading threads easier and what not?

If it is could someone maybe show me the code..? I hate myself for forgetting such things..
