Aric was one of those guys that never quite managed to completely fit in anywhere in the High School social structure, the type who was overlooked or simply forgotten about if he wasn't right there. He wasn't terrible at sports, he was good enough to avoid being picked on by the jocks, but not quite good enough to make any of the teams. He was studious enough to keep his grades at an acceptable enough level to keep his parents and teachers off his back, but not so much that he drew attention with Straight As or got lumped as a nerd. He wasn't bad looking, good enough to avoid any laughs or looks of revulsion from the girls, but not hot or cute enough to make their hearts skip a beat or to be the subject of secret whispers and longing. In short, Aric fell through virtually every social crack that existed in a town and school like this. Of course that could have its advantages as well. He avoided the radar of the jocks and bullies who were out to get everyone, he was never hassled when staff or students wanted volunteers for some meaningless school activity that, at heart, nobody involved with wanted to do, and of course he tended to have the ability to come and go more or less as he pleased. Overall, for now Aric figured it was a good life, one that would get him through High School more or less unscathed until he could get to college and hopefully find somewhere to fit in a little better. Not that he wasn't already looking for ways to improve his situation of course, what person wouldn't? Just because he was content didn't mean he didn't want better. It just meant he didn't expect it. Of course, the best things that happen to you are rarely the ones you expect.
The afternoon had started out like most any other, school finishing, students hurriedly wanting to get away as fast as possible, Aric among them. However once he was about halfway home he stopped and mentally slapped himself as he remembered...he had left his wallet back in his locker in the changing rooms, only the key for it in his pocket when he had gone to get some change for a snack on the way home. "Idiot...put it there during gym class when we went swimming and forgot to pick it up again afterwards" With a weary sigh the boy turned around to make his way back towards the school. It was devoid of students by the time he got back, almost an hour after classes were over. Even most of the teachers had left by this point, they tended to want to get away as quickly as the students sometimes. Fortunately that just meant there was nobody to hassle him about still being around after hours when he wasn't supposed to be there, and his walk to the pool building was a quiet and uneventful one.
On his arrival though, and entering the large room with the pool, Aric heard a distinct splashing noise, someone was in the water. As he glanced around he spotted a figure in the water, someone swimming beneath the surface. They hadn't noticed him yet it seemed, and from the looks of their silhouette this person was most definitely female, though he couldn't tell if she was in a bikini or a one piece swimsuit. Well this was an opportunity too good to pass up. Aric quickly tugged his cell phone from his pocket and opened up the camera in order to start recording video. Sure, maybe this was a little sad, but what the hell, he was sad and lonely. Moving to take a spot to hide around the stands, he held his phone out to record the pool, wondering if the girl would emerge from the water anytime soon to get some really good shots.
