As I sat in the coffee shop trying to get my midday fix, my ear was being talked off by my mother. The one sided conversation was very apparent to those within earshot.
"Yes mother, I am safe." Pause. "No I got to Aunt Sues house just fine. Your directions were perfect." Pause again. "No I don't have a job yet, but I'm sure I'll get something. I always do.." I laugh. I could hear it coming.... "No Mom, I am fine. I have enough for about a month or so to get me on my feet. I'm gong to start looking right away for a job and a place to stay." Sigh.. Mothers....
Nonchalantly I looked around at my surroundings and the people in the coffee shop, starting to get bored with my Mothers prattle, constantly worrying about me. Some of the waitresses were not bad in this modern establishment, and some of the patrons too. I spy an unused daily paper, and stand up to get it so I can look at the classifieds...
"Look Ma, I gotta go. I need my coffee fix, and I want to read the classified to see if there are any jobs and such. Yes mother... Love to Dad. Talk to you soon. Bye" I hang up and put my phone in my purse. I exhale loudly. Ok I'm glad that's over.
I pick up the paper, and walk to the line to order. While in line I look around and realize this will be a nice change of pace. I'm still worried that things might be bumpy, but its time I got out on my own. My thoughts turn to what I would do here. What do I want to do for fun? I mean its the city so I'm sure there is more fun to be had for an unassuming conservative lesbian than in the small town that I was from.
As the line moves forward, I realize that I was starting to daydream...
Could I find that exciting young woman who might be fun to be with? break me out of my shell? My hand moves to adjust my bra strap and I realize I need someone in my life... I laugh to myself.. I also need to get laid ... I look around... hmmm maybe here is where it starts?
