And do they know about your RPs?
Just curious how they feel about it, or if they don't know about it.

One of my EXs knew and he didn't like it. He considered it cheating or cybering. (Which is strange because back then the RPs I played in weren't really that sexual in nature..)
I tried to explain to him that it was more than that, but it's hard to explain RP to someone who doesn't do it themselves.. You know?

I thought I did.

But none I once had didn't really care. They would most want me to play with them online, though.

I do have a significant other, she's aware of Blue Moon, but I don't have any RPs for her to be concerned about, because any - Any - sexual interaction between a person and another, when the person's SO did not directly consent to it happening, is cheating.

Yeah, I have a husband. He knows I'm here. If anything, he wishes I'd actually try writing to get published. But the last thing he does is tell me 'it's wrong' or whatever.

I do not have a S.O., so I don't exactly know how they'd feel but I know how I'd feel if I had an S.O. who did it.

It would really kind of depend. If they came to RP but all they did was pure smut stories I'd be really uncomfortable and would feel kind of cheated on in a way. But if they came on and RPed actual plots and sexual things happened in them I'd be fine with it. It's probably a bit strange but thats how I'd feel about it.

And if they did RP actual plot focused stories and not smut crap [no offense to the people who do nothing but smut] I'd feel pretty bad asking them to stop. They obviously enjoy writing and enjoy the stories they have going....so I'd be happy knowing they had something like that.

I know this isn't really what the topic is asking about per se but I just thought I'd throw in how I feel about the whole thing.

And a little more off topic, I don't think I could stay with someone who asked me to give up on something I love doing so much, simply because they didn't understand what I was doing. I love my stories, I love a good story in general and I'd hate to give it up simply because someone saw story writing as cheating. To me thats like some guy asking me to stop reading my favorite author because it has sexual themes in it. Nevermind the fantastic plot line behind it.

But again I could see if it was just a porno book. I could give up that if it made them uncomfortable.

Again, I know this probably sounds a little strange. Or doesn't make much sense and sorry bout going a bit off topic. I also realize that my whole view could be turned against me in the defense of smut writing. I do realize this. But, it's just how I personally feel about it.

I have an S.O and from what I can tell, he doesn't really give it much thought since I haven't RPed in like....at least 6 months or whatever.

I have a significant other and actually role played with him via email.

He use to be against it until I told him it was a hobby and nothing in the lines of cheating or wanting someone else. He understands completely now and encourages me on it. He's so sweet to me. ^_^

I wish he would join here but he hates to write. :/

As long as he underpants completely...

Damn autocorrect, right Ironic?

No significant other here, but if I did I'd do something similar; explain it as a hobby and possibly state a little clearer that my writing life is separate from my OOC life, as several other BMR users do.

Lmfao! OMG it was a typo.

Damn autocorrect! Why! Why do you fail me and make me look like a fool!?

I have a SO and he does not know, simply because I don't know how he'd feel about RPing in general. Roleplaying is kind of my secret hobby. Not even my best friends know I do it.

My boyfriend thinks fantasy based fanfiction is awkward so I can only imagine what he'd feel about roleplaying, especially adult themed roleplaying, even though I'm not really RPing at the moment.

My boyfriend knows I do it, and he's the only one who knows I roleplay.

With him, he was kind of iffy about it at first. We went through this whole session where we sat down and talked about it; what he and I are comfortable with as a couple and why certain things are 'too much' or 'too far.' In the end, he was able to see that I loved writing stories and that it was just a hobby of mine. I told him that writing with others is a great way to improve on writing skills, and it keeps the creativity and imagination going because you're not the only author cranking out all the words! We agreed not to roleplay via IM because it was both a little bit too personal, for both him and myself. And of course, no smutty OOC chat (cybersex) either, but I didn't - and still don't - do that.

But honestly, it takes a very special S.O to realize and understand that it's not just 'sex typing'... it's actual stories and plot, and it's overall a nice creative outlet for those of us who love to write but only keep it as a hobby. I think the vast majority don't understand the joy of roleplaying in general, so it gets written off as a 'weird' hobby, which isn't true at all.

However, I do think that erotic roleplay is one of the things you need to talk about with a significant other once you reach that "tell me something no one else knows about you" stage. I find that that longer you keep it a secret, the harder it is for your S.O to digest it. I told my boyfriend a little over a year after we started dating, and he was disappointed that I didn't tell him sooner.

It's nice that so many of you have such understanding S.O's My EX was super against it, but back then those RPs didn't have any sex. Maybe a kiss and a time skip every now and then, but nothing rated R/X or whatever. There wasn't any inappropriate talk outside of the roleplay either; it was what it was, a roleplay, nothing more.

Ms. Muffintops, I am the same as you though, it's more of a private hobby. I am constantly trying to improve my shoddy writing skills, and roleplay is a great way to do it. Writing with another person can be a fun challenge, and it forces you to work with their writing and ideas as well. I just think it would be a hard thing to explain to someone who isn't accustomed to it...
