Queen Lilith leaned back in her high-backed gilded velvet chair and stifled a yawn as the peace negotiations wound down. They had taken most of the day and her own input had been minimal. Most of the discussions were between the generals and high ranking nobles who had fought the battles. She was informed that she had to be present though, for appearances if nothing else. This could mean the end of the war with the amazons that had so devastated the kingdom these last few years. Nothing could be allowed to go wrong.
Lilith hadn't been queen all that long and at twenty-seven she was young for the crown. A pretty slight young woman with high cheekbones and pale smooth skin seemingly untouched by the sun, she was a picture of aristocratic beauty, small, extremely delicate of build and coldly beautiful, with soft blonde hair piled atop her head like spun gold and accentuated with bright blue eyes. She did not bother to hide the look of disdain on her face as she was called to place the royal seal on the finalized deal. It was a shameful moment for the kingdom, one she blamed on her inept commanders and weak-willed men. That was the only possible reason why a kingdom as large and once powerful as their own should find itself losing to a pitifully small nation made entirely of women. How could women fight and defeat trained knights? In her own kingdom women did not even wield swords. It made no sense to Lilith. He own father had died in the war and now they were giving them a treasury worth of gold and land to stop the fighting. It made her feel both angry and a little ill.
Dipping her signet ring into the hot wax she pressed it onto each of the parchments placed before her on the table. When she finished, Lilith glanced at the women across from her and gave a haughty lift of her chin. They might have defeated her armies, but she did not consider them her betters. Or even her equals. "Are we done?" she asked the archduke primly, dismissing them without another glance. The old man did not meet her gaze though, and instead stepped forward nervously, bowing his head at the amazons across the table.
"As for your other demand…we…we have agreed, if it means the fighting shall stop," he explained in a stammering voice that annoyed Lilith. He was giving them far too much respect in her opinion. "You… you may have the queen as your prisoner as a guarantee of our continued compliance to your terms."
Two strong hands at once seized the queen's shoulders, hands belonging to her own royal guard, and she stiffened as she was lifted from her seat. "What are doing?! Unhand me!" she demanded, disbelieving as she was brought around the tables to where the Amazons sat. "You cannot be serious! This is…this is… You are all traitors! I will not go anywhere with them!" the little queen spat venomously, eyes suddenly wide with surprise and fear. "Let me go!" And the men did so, pushing her softly but firmly towards the warrior women who had purchased her as the final demand before agreeing to the peace.
