It was a beautiful, spring day in Triton. The skies were crystal clear and the air had a slight crisp feeling to hit that reminded you of the winter just weeks prior. For Kyle, it would have been the best sort of Sunday to spend at home, lounging about and avoiding his homework. Instead, he was out looking for a gift with his best friend. It seemed like a waste of time, since Kyle was rather sure that Jenny wasn’t going to put out over some sort of knickknack, but he went along anyway. After all, that’s what friends are for, right?
Not that Kyle had much experience with the ladies himself. He was the quiet type, more likely to be seen with a book in hand than not, and rather reserved. It was likely that he’d never have left the house at all without if it wasn’t for the bonds of friendship he’d forged when he was young. The pair of boys walked along the boardwalk and Kyle couldn’t help but compare himself to those around him. He hadn’t really developed the sort of look that would make him stand out. When anyone looked at him, they saw another white boy with brown hair, a bit on the short side of average, and brown eyes to boot. Even his clothes were drab, just another set of jeans with a t-shirt and coat.
The boys turned a corner to find a shop that neither of them had seen before. ‘Antiques and Oddities’ the sign read. Strangely enough, the place looked like it had been here for years. The sign had that telltale wear and tear and the items in the window looked like the hadn’t been moved in decades.
“What about that place?” Kyle asked his friend. “There’s got to be some shit in there that Jenny’d like or something.”
