Soft morning light fell in through a curtained window, onto the resting body of a young woman. The light seemed to envelop her pale skin shown by her pajama shorts and tank top, making it glow. She lay on her stomach, her fingers delicately holding a paperback, as she got lost in her world. This is where Cassiopeia spent most of her time, her chestnut hair cascading in ringlets over her shoulders as her emerald eyes eating up the words in front of her. Now that her nineteenth birthday had come and passed she reveled having more time for her books since she finished school. The only thing that interrupted her now was her part time job at the local grocery store. She looked up from her book as her mother knocked on the door before entering, a nervous smile on her lips. Cassiopeia set her book down and listened to what her mother had to say.

It was the weekend before the holiday season, a time for families to come together and spend time with each other. But Cassiopeia never expected it to be this much quality time. The young woman froze with her mouth hung slightly ajar in shock and indignation at her mother's words. Not the part about her grandparents getting her brother's room because it was furthest from the stairs, oh no. She cared for her elderly relatives very much and did not want to hear them crash down to their death in the night. She was very much upset by where her younger brother would now be sleeping.

"Why does he have to share my room?" she questioned, finally able to speak after the initial shock died down. Quickly she moved to a sitting position, her leg crossed over the other as she moved her light brown locks from her face. Resting her hand on her forehead she watched as her mother cleared a space in her room for her brother.

"Cassi, it'll just be for a couple of weeks. Your dad and I would enjoy the privacy as much as your grandparents would." her mother smiled at the light trace of Cassiopeia's blush, "Plus, it wouldn't be far to put him on the sofa downstairs, you know how cold it gets in the night." Her mother busied herself as the young girl realized her point, letting out a long sigh. She still was not satisfied with the circumstances, but they still had a week of being apart during the day. Maybe they could figure out how to make this work. She placed her bookmark inside of the book she was reading and set it on her nightstand. Her fantasy world had been ruined by life's misfortunes. Still, her grandparents would be here within the hour, she needed to get ready. She jumped up to rummage through her closet, tactfully avoiding her mother as she reorganized her room, and set about picking out her outfit. She settled on a dark green dress that matched her eyes and smiled in triumph. Leaving the dress on her bed with a bra and a pair of panties she made her way to the bathroom to shower. Her mother offered her a warm smile as she went but Cassiopeia returned it with a forced one, at least trying to accept her fate.

Alexander was still passed out in his bed when the sun came through the window and shined upon his face. Pressed against the pillow he felt the warmth and sighed, moving a bit as his alarm went off at just that time. Fumbling around he opened his eyes and made the mistake of looking right at his open window, the sun shining bright through. "Aaahh!" Gasping he sat up and squinted, covering the window and grumbling something to himself. "Stupid sun. Always gotta ruin my good dreams." He didn't even pay attention to the alarm that he had just hit snooze on, getting out of bed. He wore a pair of gym shorts and a loose muscle shirt, that almost fell off from his body like it was a size to big for his shoulders, which weren't small in their own right. Looking at the time he sighed, knowing he had to get the room ready for his grandparents. His mom had told him where he would be sleeping the night before, and he wasn't very happy about it just like his sister. But still he preferred the floor of her room over the living room. That place froze like it was Antarctica in the middle of the night. He'd take a week or so with his sister over losing a toe to the cold.

He still wasn't very excited about it though. The 18 year old captain of the basketball team was nearly done with his final year of school, the second and last semester starting after Winter break was done with. He was already set to leave this summer, having chose the scholarship he wanted and ready to leave this forsaken place behind like it was a bad memory. He was just like any other teen, near adult in the world. Rebellious and ready to leave and go out on his own. His sister had stayed for the year, and taken up a part time job. He was different however. He didn't hate her, nor did he hate the rest of his family. He just preferred to not have to deal with them 24/7. They argued a lot, and got yelled at plenty as kids. Now she had grown into a fine woman, and he knew she would find a good man someday.

He was a fine specimen himself though, although he didn't pay attention to his own body that much, except for when the next person was drooling over him, which was inevitable. He was 6'1, a star athlete with decent, (at best) grades. A couple of C's and some B's and A's. One D in Spanish but he didn't care about that. The grades were still enough to get him through which was all that mattered. Sports was where he excelled. He had a nice build, but not overly muscled like those steroids guys that showed up on commercials. He was lean and tan, and had brown hair that fell around his head in a mop, getting in the way of his eyes a lot. He was offered several scholarships in the past two years, because of his basketball and his baseball, deciding on one for basketball since that was his favorite sport and the college was pretty successful. And far from home.

Shaking his head a bit he paused, wondering where that last thought came from. Shrugging it off he fumbled through his dresser and grabbed a pair of black jeans, along with a grey muscle shirt and a plain black long sleeved to throw over it. Walking into the hall in his gym shorts, he grabbed a towel from the cupboard and walked towards the bathroom bumping into her since he wasn't paying attention. Looking up he noticed she was heading towards the bathroom and sighed, leaning against the wall. "Morning sis. I assume you're trying to take a shower?"

Cassiopeia jumped slightly as she felt a warm body crash into hers. Her brow furrowed slightly as she looked at her "attacker" to find it was her brother. She glanced away as she noticed his attire, looking at anything but Alexander. She couldn't complain, her own sleep wear was less than suitable for interactions with the outside world, but that didn't stop the blush from creeping into her cheeks. She would certainly be wearing more clothing when they roomed together.

Trying to be playful she smiled at his remark, "Why yes I am. And I am going to hog it up all I want. You can get yourself settled while you wait." With a coy glance at him she made her way into the bathroom and close the door. As she turned she noticed their mother heading down the stairs, presumably to clean the kitchen or living room, whichever one she found unsatisfactory though she had cleaned the whole house the day before. Cassiopeia could hear the television blaring and assumed her father was in his usual Saturday morning spot, on the sofa. She rolled her green eyes, television never really held her attention for long unless there was a good movie on. Turning the water on to the temperature of her choice she stripped herself of her clothing, looking herself once over in the mirror before climbing in. She was prone to getting bumps and bruises without even noticing them, being much more clumsy than her athletic brother. Still with her healthy eating and late night running she maintained a slim figure. Cassiopeia relished the feel of the warm water slipping over her body as she began to suds herself up, washing her skin and her hair.
