Death......Death is something one simply doesn't forget. So quick, so easy, like blowing out the flame of a candle. When it's one's own life that is extinguished, you don't forget it, you can't forget it. Like a splinter in your mind. Than again, how does one have an appreciation for death when one is born undead? In their case, they had more of an appreciation for death and were one with death. They were a member of the undead, ever living, ever hungry. At one point, their kind was one to be feared, one that ruled over the lands in full view of all. Perhaps the most infamous, and perhaps the only one left from their time was on it's way to the British Museum.

In London, a box was being moved by two men. Within contained a shriveled husk that had once been a creature of flesh and blood.

"Why's this box so heavy? It's just a husk right?" said the one man.

"It's a sarcophagus you sod. It's made of stone and gold, how light do you think it should be?" said the other.

"So there's a mummy in this thing?" asked the first man again.

The box was set down with a grunt as the man recoiled and shook his hand. "Oh bollocks! Bloody splinter" he complained.

The other man shook his head and sighed. "Christ your a blooming whiner you know that? Try not to break anything, I'm gonna take a smoke" he said as he walked out to take a smoke.

The man grumbled and looked to the box. He'd never seen a mummy before. When would he get another chance like this? Grabbing a crowbar, he pried the top off the wooden box and slid the lid off the sarcophagus to reveal the mummified corpse. The corpse was mostly bones now, held in place by leathery skin. The man inspected the corpse finding himself wondering who this man could have been. He tilted his head as he noticed the corpses teeth. They were very shark like, there almost appeared to be 2 sets of teeth. He touched the tooth and recoiled again as he sliced it open.

The bones were thousands of years old and yet the bones teeth were sharp as a scalpel. He cursed gently as he made his way to the first aid kit. As the man bandaged and wrapped his finger, something was happening....something monstrous and bewildering. With the cut of the man's finger, the blood trickled into the corpses gullet. The organs had become shriveled, but he was by no means "dead". The blood caused the organs to grow in size, his skin to begin to regain it's normal nature, his organs becoming fully functional.

The first taste of blood in centuries, like fuel for a jet....a jet lined with shark like teeth and a thirst for blood. The shriveled eyelids began to open, it's eyes growing back and becoming black as ebony. His talons rose to the edge of the sarcophagus, his body rising from his place of rest. His sense were slowly returned, the smell of blood returning to him as his gaze looked to the man who had awakening. With a labored wheeze, he slowly rose from his sarcophagus, his legs slowly regaining the muscle as he began to move for his source of food. It was too late for the man. As he turned, the walking corpse was on top of him, his jaw unhinging as his teeth sunk into the man's jugular as he tore out the man's throat, draining the body of it's source of life. The ears grew long and pointed, his muscles growing in size and his claws growing longer as he feasted on his prey.

With the man completely drained of blood, the monster rose, wiping his mouth of the blood as he took a quick whiff. "What the fuck?" called a voice behind him. With lighting speed, the monster moved and made a quick and deadly swipe. The man's body dropped to it's knees as the batlike creature descended once more. The jaw reattached to it's normal point. His hair grew from his scalp and his fingers returned to normal. His bulging muscles returned to a more natural size, his hair growing long and a chocolate brown. His skin was a light tan, a light facial hair sprouting as the man returned to his natural form. He slowly rolled his neck and shoulders as he felt centuries of stiffness in his muscles. That would soon pass. The man was completely naked, he couldn't have that.

He walked to the corpse and stripped the man of his pants, slipping the pants on to cover his manhood. The pants were a bit loose but they would suffice as he made his way out of the warehouse, he began to wonder....how long had he been asleep, and what had changed since his time of unrest?

Vampires were a myth. They and their blood sucking ways were too busy sitting in mystery and romance novels, twisted and turned into some strange romantic notion that most could barely begin to understand. Something about their ancient ways had caught the interest of the public which in turn was beginning to draw these dark creatures out into the open. This was obviously a problem.

Kaylee Cornett was one of those who was now living at risk of being discovered by the average human in the outside world. This fifty-four year old redhead had been down the risky path several times, most more times than she wanted to admit, but this time was certainly the worst. With the new media outlets, cell phones and email, it was easy to see why she was worried about her state of life changing. It had been years since the government had begun to take over the vampire's way of living, often shifting from a tolerable point to a dangerous one, but even with those in high command trying to push the media away from the blood sucking beings, they refused to turn a blind eye to the blood-drained bodies, those mysterious millionaires or the club-hopping punks who wandered the street at night. To them, everyone had the chance of being a member of the strange club and they wanted to get their claws into them.

The sound of Kaylee's three inch heels barely made a sound against the concrete floors of the Orchid Lounge. The familiar pulsing beat echoed through the air, giving life to everyone inside and hypnotizing them into one activity: dancing. Those who stepped foot inside of the club were typically after one of two things; a way to forget their troublesome day or for a bite to eat without worrying about someone breathing down their backs. The Orchid Lounge was one of many clubs in London that catered to the vampire community and offered them a solid place of safety from the peering eyes of the humans of the outside world. Most of those inside were vampires, feeding off of the consensual humans who worked for the club while others were average people who were curious about their lifestyle and wanted to feel the bite of the powerful creatures.

Kaylee was in charge of making sure those curious humans didn't get out of hand. It was easy for one to step into the wrong area and get themselves in trouble without knowing what they had done wrong. It wasn't often that a situation like that arose, but when it did, the vampires had to jump on it before another body was found outside of the building. When there wasn't a problem, Kaylee's job was to give the curious beings what they wanted and feed off of their live forces. It was a wonderful job, for the most part, and this redhead wouldn't give it up for the world. It gave her enough money to keep her apartment in the city and it offered her the protection that every vampire wished for in this day. For creatures that were once feared, these predators were lingering just under the radar of a prey run world... Their ancestors would be disappointed in them.

Another shift down, another night almost over. Kaylee retreated to the spare room in the building to slip out of her faithful heels and into something far more practical for walking the streets in. Despite her form fitting, strawberry red dress, the woman slipped her feet out of the pumps and into a pair of white running shoes. They certainly weren't something she would wear while working, but they were far more comfortable on the walk home than anything else she had in her wardrobe. She let a sigh escape her pink painted lips as she tied her knee-length peacoat around her waist, nimble fingers working at the buttons to cover up her dress. Even with it on, her legs were open to the city air.

"You working tomorrow?" a voice asked from the doorway of the room.

Kaylee raised her steel grey eyes to the small locker in front of her before tipping her head, ruby red hair falling calmly onto her shoulders. "I never work Sundays," she answered her friend before pushing the door closed and turning around. Her words flowed like a rich chocolate from her lips, laced with a slight British accent that she had faded into over her time in England. Her eyes looked tired, for once in a long while, showing just a hint of how old she really was. Thanks to the slow ageing technique of being a vampire, her curved frame didn't look much older than twenty-five. It was perfect.

"Ah right. I never remember that."

The redhead slung her traditional Swiss army backpack over her shoulder before starting towards the door, a small roll of her eyes telling the man she didn't quite believe him. "You always say that, Cole. And I always have to remind you. I believe your memory is fading." She flicked his forehead with a manicured nail before sliding past him and out the door. Both of her hands slid into the pockets of her jacket before her co-worker could say another word, symbolising that she was done with this conversation and there was nothing Cole could do about it. "I'll see you on Monday," she finally said as she turned around, nudging her hip against the back door out of the club, giving him one final wave of her hand before leaving for the night.

The air was slightly chilled outside, but what else could she ask from London? This was expected and it was one of the reasons why she called it home. As soon as she got down to the sidewalk and started the trek home, she knew it would feel better. And boy was she right. Down on ground level, it was near perfect to walk home in. The sky was clear, whatever breeze was there was warm enough to enjoy and the streets were quite bare. The sound of the club faded as she made her way away from the walls, leaving her with just the occasional sound of a car to keep her company as she started back to the place she now called home.

The half naked man was blinded by the light of the night as he shielded his eyes. What sort of magic was this? The cool air suggested that it was either night or he was now in a colder region than where he'd come from. As his eyes began to finally adjust, he was greeted by the sight of buildings that rose to the skies and metal trees that sprouted from stone and emitted a rather blinding light. His senses were bombarded by the sights and sounds of this strange new world. What manner of hell was this? How could trees of metal sprout from the ground, how could they burn with the intensity of a fire?

He looked around to see people dressed in strange clothing, boxes on wheels parked on either side of him. For the first time in a long time, the man found himself a bit afraid. The world he knew had been familiar, he understood it. He'd been away for gods knew how long and had been awaken in a time he didn't understand, a time he had no earthly business being a part of. He jumped as a harsh noise came from behind him. It was almost like the honk of a goose or a swan. He turned to find himself blinded once more. He shielded his eyes and slowly lowered them as he found it was one of the boxes on wheels. It was growling and emitted a rather harsh smell of something burning. What sort of animal was moving it? For that matter, where was this beast?

"Get out of the road you tosser!" called a voice from behind the light.

The half naked man seemed confused, very very confused as a man climbed out of the box, approaching him.

"Did you hear me you sod? Get out of the bloody road" he said as he approached.

The man focused on the box more than the shouting man, fascinated by the contraption. It appeared to be some sort of transportation, something that didn't require horses to pull. But what was pulling it?

"I'm not going to tell you again...." said the man with a rather rude shove. "Get out of the road" the man said.

The half naked man looked to the offender with a fiery look. "Don't touch me again" he growled. His voice had a rather odd accent. It wasn't Italian but it wasn't Spanish either.

The offending man smirked and pushed him once more. It was a fatal mistake on his part. With a growl, the half naked man pounced on his prey and unhinged his jaw, biting down on the man's neck and shreading the flesh to pieces. He didn't drain the body of blood, simply spat the piece of meat back at the man and wiped his mouth clean of blood. People began to scream and run, many grabbing their phones to call the police. The man payed them no mind as he made his way towards the box, examining it closer. The box was made out of some kind of metal, something thin and flimsy. The wheels weren't made out of wood, yet they weren't made out of stone or metal either. They appeared to be made out of some sort of leather. It wasn't quite leather but it was the only thing that made any sense to him.

There appeared to be another wheel within the car. What was it's purpose? It was the perfect size for a man to put their hands around. He turned the wheel slowly to hear something else move. He looked to see the wheels on the road start moving. It was ingenious! It was used to steer what ever beast was inside the box. It was rather ingenious.

So far, so good. Kaylee slid her eyes closed as soon as the stepped onto her normal path, slowly making her way down the almost straight shot to her home. She could literally walk it with her eyes closed, even without using her heightened senses. The night was calm, without a sense of danger or worry, making it a perfect end to a good night of work. What could possibly go wro--.

Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by the sound of a car horn and shouting. That was quite a rude awakening for her, but when the smell of blood wafted past her nose, her interest was caught. There was no gun shot, which they have had their fair share of, but instead perhaps a stabbing or... The sound of screams filled her ears. Those weren't normal screams of fear, those were screams she hadn't herd for years. Screams of panic and terror. Instantly, her mind turned to the thought of some sort of rogue vampire. They were around, always trying to cause trouble with the goal of making the lives of vampires better, but in the end they never helped their cause. Either way, Kaylee started towards the noise, picking up her pace enough to cut the time in half. When she arrived, many of the people on the street had cleared out and in the far distance, there was the sound of sirens. She only had a few minutes to try to assess the situation and attempt to clean it up.

Body; neck ripped open. Missing a chunk, in fact. This man must have really angered whichever vampire it was. Was Robert out of jail that early?

Vampire; still on the scene. It wasn't hard to find who the cause of the commotion was, luckily. He was still there, which was good, but playing with the man's car. Kaylee's lips parted for a moment as she took in a breath, as if ready to speak, only to let it out slowly, brows furrowing in confusion. He was missing a few articles of clothing and looked like he was completely lost in this world, certainly unknowing of the rules. No matter how angry a vampire got, they always tried to stick to not flat out killing people. Something about this man was putting Kaylee on edge though, and it wasn't the fact that he had just killed someone. She was used to that.

His scent was strong, not of decay as if he was new, but of power. It was a sweet smell that she hadn't had the chance to taste before, but there was certainly some strength there, not only physically but mentally as well. Her eyes closed for a moment as she took in another deep breath. The smell of wood and stone came back to her, along with the scent of another world. As if he had been trapped inside of something and the scent of that world was still lingering on him. She reopened her eyes, letting their grey colour dance over the man's body for a moment before focusing on him.

She strained to make sure she got his attention right off the bat, but using the gift granted to her by her age, she called for him. The power of persuasion was something that came in quite handy for her and it was powerful, thanks to years of practice and working with it. It was the more powerful of her two powers and surprisingly, it was rare for vampires to have these days. More often than not, they had some sort of aura reading or precognition, but Kaylee has struggled to turn her basic telepathy into something far more useful and powerful.

'You're a bloody fool.' Her voice echoed inside of the man's head, whispering from the depths of his mind and lingering for a moment, repeating the message twice before fading into silence again. 'Come with me. Quickly.'

If the man took a moment to look around, it would be clear who sent the message. Kaylee was staring directly at him and one of the only people still there who wasn't in a panic. Her hands were in her pockets, tightened into fists, but the rest of her looked to be calm. All but her eyes. They were staring the man down as if he was prey and she was about to attack. Of course, she wasn't, but the determined, dead serious look she was giving him would hopefully come across to the stranger and get him moving. They didn't have much time. The sirens were quickly coming closer and Kaylee needed to get the man out before they arrived and he was tossed in prison without a friend to help him.

It was true, the man had no true understanding of the rules of this world. He had no idea about how vampires were hiding like prey. As time would go on, he would soon learn, and soon become more disgusted with how low they had fallen. His kind had been conquerors, kings, warriors, top of the food chain. The very thought of their kind hiding in the shadows like thieves and taking their food like scavengers. It was a disgrace for such powerful creatures. They were gods among mortals, it was their duty to rule over them. To protect them from themselves in a way. It was believed the vampires came into being to act as guardians of man, to keep them safe and to feed only when needed. Many had seemed to have forgotten such things. The newly awakened man had been by no means any different. In his young age, he'd been a killer. He squandered his abilities, but as he grew older, he learned and began to follow the ways they had been intended.

It was of course a legend, but it was something the vampires had believed, it was the only way to give their lives some sort of purpose. It had been had been his goal when he'd learned of this legend. Truth was truly much stranger than fiction. Though that was more true than what it had been when he was awake. He examined the box diligently as he was less aware of his surroundings and more aware of what lay before him. He examined the contraption, his eyes darting back and forth as he picked apart the machine, though still finding himself wondering what was powering the beast. He looked up as he heard a voice. It was unlike any voice he'd heard before, something that echoed in his mind. It was as though someone had spoken to him directly to his mind.

He looked around in a confused manner as he looked about to see the potential source of the voice. What manner of power was this? He listened as she told him to follow her quickly. He slowly climbed out of the car and made his way towards the woman in bewilderment. "How is it you can do such things?" he said quickly. He took a quick whiff, finding out all he needed in a moment. "Your not mortal, yet I have never encountered such things from one of my own kind" he said. He took one more quick whiff. Her vampiric scent was.....tainted. It was weaker and yet somehow stronger. Perhaps time had changed his kind, changed them in ways he truly didn't understand. Perhaps that was the case. Truth be told, she smelled more like one who had been bitten, not one that had been born like them. It made the most sense in his mind.

Kaylee put a finger to her lips, staring the man down in a daring fashion before turning away, rolling her fingers in a 'follow' gesture. Get away from the sirens... that was their only goal right now, then they could talk. Having this strange with her meant Kaylee couldn't take her normal path home, but the alternate route would give them a chance to discuss what had happened. This stranger was just as confused as Kaylee was, but in an entirely different way. The metallic scent of blood was still lingering around him and despite having a full stomach, the rage that she saw from this man, the barbaric way he ripped him apart, it was all making her mouth water and her craving to feed grow. Self control was something that Kaylee prided herself in, so she pushed to keep herself as neutral as she could manage.

She glanced over her shoulder for a moment to make sure the stranger was following her before turning down a smaller street nearby, pausing long enough to track the air around them. The police were closer now, but they were tucked inside of a place they could see as safe. For now. The police may have known about the vampires and their ways, but they still had to act as if they were any other citizen who just killed a man. The trial would be held in a private location, keeping the media out of the way, and the prisoners were put in a private jail, made special for their needs. Either way, this mysterious man would still be held responsible for what he had done. Kaylee could only hope that no one had snapped a picture of the man after he committed his crime.

Once in the alley, the red head slid her hand against the cool wall, using it as another thing to focus on over her sudden craving for blood. Her eyes closed for a moment before she spun around and focused on the powerful stranger behind her. "What were you thinking?" she asked, stepping closer to him, a cold stare coming through her stare. Unlike before, not only did her voice not echo, but her lips moved. It was obvious who was speaking and it sounded normal. Serious and scolding, but just like any other voice. She didn't have to raise her voice to show that she was frustrated with what this man had done. She had perfect control. For now.

"Attacking a citizen? In the open? Were you just bitten?" That would make some sense. It wouldn't explain how he felt so powerful, but that could be explained if he was bitten by a seriously powerful vampire. But if he didn't know the rules or proper place to feed, that made the most sense to Kaylee.

The man watched as she put a finger to her lips, staring him down. She was practically daring him to do something. You could smell the animal nature on him. He was built like a lion, muscular, vicious, but powerful, even majestic. The man was calm, but it was a barely restrained calm. He was only barely tame but was tame none the less. He followed behind her as she lead him down a less beaten path. It appeared that she intended on hiding him for a while. Perhaps because of the man he'd killed. Oh how the mighty have fallen. He held the pants up as he moved quickly. Clearly he should have grabbed a belt, a chord, something to hold the damned pants up so he was cavorting about completely naked. He had been asleep for quite some time but he was certain that the locals wouldn't take to kindly to him being completely naked. Than again, he'd been wrong in the past. Something told him thought that hadn't changed much. Only time would tell though.

The man was following quietly, still very confused but at least thankful to the gods that he had a form of guidance now. He was appreciative of the fact she was going to help him, keep him out of the dungeons or whatever they did with their criminals. He followed quietly as she paused, taking a whiff of the air. He made his way after her as she lead the way through the narrow passages of the tall buildings. He watched as she leaned forward, putting her hands on the cool walls of the ally as he took a whiff. She was barely keeping herself under control. His senses were coming back to him, his mind clearing and his perception growing sharper. He could sense her animal nature becoming more and more wild. He could sense she was regaining her control though. He listened as she asked what he was thinking, staring him down and stepping closer. He stood up tall, looking down to her as he released a growl.

He listened as she questioned what he'd done and why. If he was just bitten. His scowl turned into a hearty laugh. "I am no fledgling. I am wamphyri! A pure blood. But from what I can see, I have been asleep for a very long time, and the wamphyri are few and far between" he said with a low growl. He looked up to the large buildings above, still finding himself absolutely astounded by just how large the buildings were. The builders and engineers of this day and age were very impressive, not even he could have imagined such things to be built. Such things were simply not possible in his time. If such things were possible when he was awake, the times would look a great deal impressive he was sure.

Kaylee stared at the man, predicting the laugh was going to happen before it truly came from the man's mouth. Her eyes narrowed for a moment as she studied him, turning to worry once his words full settled over her. A wamphyri. She had heard the words before, but never really understood what they meant. The vampire who had first told her about this life, their rules, had mentioned that word in passing, addressing those more powerful or a good deal older than them by the wamphyri title, but it wasn't something she fully understood. So far, this stranger had explained it better than Austin ever had, and he was being remarkably short about it. At least he didn't seem too offended by what she was telling him.

"A wamphyri?" she asked, furrowing her brows as her cold eyes began to slide over the man's form. He didn't look to be ancient, yet the way he spoke and what how he was acting gave it away that perhaps he was older than Kaylee thought he was. The look in his eyes when he looked over the buildings around him was much like what she expected to see out of some sort or time traveller, newly arrived in their time. It certainly wasn't something she had expected to have to deal with any time soon. God dammit, just when her life was getting peaceful too. She had finally found a solid place to stay, a job to pay her rent and more importantly, the lack of an insane relationship to make her life just that much easier. And now this man had shown up, turning everything sideways until she could work this out.

Her eyes narrowed once again, lips pursing for a moment before the woman drew in a slow breath. "Just how long have you been sleeping?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest. Perhaps she wasn't being the most friendly right now... that wasn't a good way to start off a friendship. Or whatever this would be. "I'm Kaylee." She didn't dare extend her hand to the man, but instead she uncrossed her arms and let her shoulders attempt to relax into a more friendly position, hoping that it would help their situation, just slightly. "Welcome to London."
