Chances were that the experiment wasn't supposed to result in the mess that was all over the lab. It probably wasn't meant to get goo and slime and fluids all over the person conducting it either. For that matter, it probably wasn't supposed to happen quite like this at all.
Lily stood in the middle of a magical circle, one that she would have sworn she'd gotten perfectly right. The sigils were all in place. everything had been drawn in using the correct mixture with the correct brush. Lily had even brought along some extra protective materials: things that she'd purchased off the street to warn off such things. The experiment should have simply added another layer of protection onto the creature.
"I didn't even want to help with this," muttered Lily. the slime and goo made her feel particularly surly, as she could see another long soak in the magical springs in her near future. Not to mention the stern lecture that her superiors would doubtless have ready for the sorceress who'd failed here. She sighed, piercing through the muck to see if anything had survived.
"Maybe I can just sweep the whole thing under the rug," she mumbled, leaning forward to peer. Couldn't leave the protective circle, just in case. The creature was already resistant to spells, and Lily wasn't exactly the most powerful sorceress, obviously. She licked her lips as she strained to see just what had survived her latest mistake.
