In the winter of the last year, a young queen with one son summoned the boy to her bedside. She stroked the child's cheek and had another group of people brought in. The second party, another family, had served the Royal Family for many generations. Among them was a girl around the same age as the prince, give or take a year or so.
"Mari, please come to me. And bring the small one." spoke the woman laying in the bed.
The one called Mari was nothing more than a child herself yet closely crossing the threshold into adulthood. The young child she brought along was her own sister. The queen then spoke some words to the three of them.
"My son. You look so much like your father. How I miss him... but now, you will grow and become king. You must be good and fair and kind to the people of this land... Mari..."
"Yes, your Highness?"
"Look after my son as if he were your own brother, as you always have. I leave him in your charge." spoke the queen.
The girl called Mari nodded affirmatively and squeezed the shoulders of the young girl. The monarch looked toward the little girl with a smile before taking her last breath with a happy look on her face. The prince did nothing except stare at his mother then turned around to face the crowded room.
"Hail Queen White Snow!" he said.
"Hail Queen White Snow! Long Live King William!" replied the group in unison.
Some years later, while the prince was in his classroom. He impatiently tapped his book with the end of the pen and watched the teacher with an uninterested gaze. Finally, he snapped out of his daydream once a loud bang was heard. Someone had dropped something large and heavy nearby in an attempt to grab the young man's divided attention.
