♦ I'm in dire need of a roleplay that will take place in the Viking Age of the Early Middle Ages!
♦ I'm looking for something loosely and/or heavily based on the History Channel tv series Vikings. If you are not familiar with it, fret not, I will provide a description of the plot.
♦ In particular, I'm looking to play an Original Character (OC) - see below.
Background (Vikings TV Series):
A group of Norsemen (Vikings) lead by King Ragnar Lothbrok, travel west of Scandinavia to raid new lands. They pull up to the Anglo-Saxon shores of Wessex where they encounter the ruthless King Ecbert who will not hesitate to rage war. Although, instead of shedding blood, King Ecbert agrees to negotiate with Ragnar Lothbrok, who inquires that he does not want treasure, but fertile land. Meanwhile, back in Scandinavia - Ragnar's lands are being vengefully conquered by enemy Jarl Borg. In a panic, Ragnar retreats back to Scandinavia, leaving only a small troupe of Norsemen to maintain negotiations with King Ecbert of Wessex. Though, this retreat leads King Ecbert to betray negotiations, and attack the small group of Norsemen in order to finally rid them. The battle turns into a complete massacre of the Vikings - leaving only a handful of people who managed to escape to their boat, and leave back to Scandinavia. All but one escaped; Athelstan - an ex-monk and Anglo-Saxon who was enslaved by Ragnar (and later freed) years ago during a previous raid. Although Athelstan was freed, he was welcomed into the Viking community and integrated himself into their Pagan beliefs. Having been an ex-Christian (and now-Pagan), Athestan is considered a disgrace to Christianity, the Anglo-Saxon/Wessex community, and deemed a product of Satan. He is sentenced to crucifixion.
This is where the roleplay will most likely take off.
Vikings (TV) Male Characters:
(Canon characters that I'd be interested in)
- King Ecbert of Wessex
- Rollo Lothbrok
- Ragnar Lothbrok
- Bjorn Lothbrok
- Athelstan
- Non-Canon/ OC Characters WELCOME! (see below)
Biography:
Editha grew up in the prestigious royal family of Essex, to father King Ecbert and a mother who died of the plague shortly after Editha's 13th birthday. After her mother's passing, life in the household of only men became increasingly difficult, with both her father and brother viewing women as less than she appreciated. shortly after turning 16, she was set to marry but refused. Her reluctance to marry convinced her brother that the reason she would not marry was because Editha was instead in love with him. Editha, repulsed by his claims, tried to abjure but her brother was already infatuated by her beauty, and tried to reclaim his sister as his own. She fought back, disallowing him to force himself upon her - but in an angered rage, Editha's brother beat her - leaving her with scarring from the many lashes she withstood. Rather than being protected by her father, King Ecbert betrayed her, seeing his son as superior and believing his claims that Editha had tried to seduce her own brother. Ecbert ultimately shamed her and despite her disapproval, sentenced her to marriage once more. Although Editha had refused her brother, he could not accept the rejection, and attempted to take her once more. She resisted, except this time, was successful and nearly beat her brother to death. In a vengeful moment of uncontrollable madness, Editha raged to kill her brother. She was stopped by a veiled knight, who ripped her from her brother's limp body, but rather than killing her, helped her escape the castle (before she could be found and tried for treason). Little did Editha know at the time, her brother had survived.
Unable to trust the knight that saved her, Editha ran away and was never to be seen by the masked knight again. Editha managed to venture to far away lands, where she lived among Norsemen and learned their language. Though, anger burned within Editha like fire, and she sought revenge against her brother, her father, and Wessex as a whole. She instead returned to Anglo-Saxon lands, and at a young age, managed to build a rebellious militia against King Ecbert. Although small, her militia was powerful in their tactics - using small acts of terrorism as a weapon against her father and his army. Her masked-militia became widely known as "The Antichrists", as they used local displays of terrorism to place fear in the public, and often used sacrilegious, blasphemous, and unholy acts to deface God and Christianity as a whole. Because they littered the streets with anti-God blood-smeared messages, they were banished from Wessex, and a high-value reward was set for all of their heads. Despite efforts to stop The Antichrists, their latest attack lead the city and public to lose faith in their King, causing the beginning of a revolt.
The Antichrists are most well known for a quote made famous by their leader (quote above):
"Believe in no God or Gods, but simply in the madness of man."
These words and similar anti-religion quotes are graffiti-ed across many cities throughout Wessex. Primarily those closest to King Ecbert.
Roleplay Ideas:
1) The Dark Knight x Editha:
The King becomes desperate to find the leader and core of the Antichrist rebellion, and hires a gentlemen known as The Dark Knight - a Knight fallen from honor/ turned dirty for hire. But also infamously known as the best bounty hunter and/or assassin in Wessex. His true identity is not known, as he is always masked when on the job to assure his identity is protected.
2) Athelstan x Editha:
Editha and The Antichrists save Athelstan from death-by-crucifixion. After he is nailed and placed on the cross, her militia ambushes the priest and group of King Ecbert's men and frees Athelstan.
3) Rollo x Editha:
When Ragnar's last troupe return to Scandinavia, they alert him that King Ecbert has betrayed negotiations and killed his men. More interested in revenge against Jarl Borg, Ragnar sends his entrusted brother, Rollo, to lead an army into battle against King Ecbert in Wessex. Upon arrival, there he would (somehow) meet Editha and her militia, The Antichrists, in hopes that they could join forces to de-rule Ecbert.
4) Bjorn x Editha:
When Ragnar's last troupe return to Scandinavia, they alert Ragnar that King Ecbert has betrayed negotiations and killed his men. They insist that Athelstan is most likely dead, but that they are not sure if he's been captured. More interested in revenge against Jarl Borg, Ragnar is unable to return to Wessex himself. Though, Bjorn is more devastated over Athelstan's loss, and seeks to return to Wessex to retrieve him, and in hopes that he is still alive (and if he is dead, to seek revenge against King Ecbert). Upon arrival, there he would (somehow) meet Editha and her militia, The Antichrists, as well as Athelstan, who was saved from death by Editha and her troupe.
Ps. I wouldn't mind upping his age, either. In the show he's 18. If you'd like to put him in his 20s, all the better.
5) Ragnar x Editha:
When Ragnar's last troupe return to Scandinavia, they alert him that King Ecbert has betrayed negotiations and killed his men. Having reclaimed his territory from Jarl Borg, Ragnar racks up an army and heads back to Wessex to get vengeance on King Ecbert. Upon arrival, there he would (somehow) meet Editha and her militia, The Antichrists, in hopes that they could join forces to de-rule Ecbert.
6) King Ecbert x Editha (incest):
King Ecbert would take matters into his own hands, and heads out to track the leader of the militia, The Antichrists. Although unsuccessful at first, he captures a member of the rebellion and tortures him into telling him where their camps are set up. King Ecbert surprise ambushes the militia, though most of them escape. Including the leader, that is until an arrow to her horse's knee causes a take-down that leaves the leader's leg stuck under her horse. King Ecbert is quick to de-hood/de-mask the infamous leader, only to shockingly discover that the leader is his estranged daughter, Editha.
7) King Ecbert x Editha (incest) 2:
King Ecbert hires a bounty hunter to track and kill the militia known as The Antichrists. Though, he requests that the leader be kept alive, and brought to him completely masked (as he wanted the pleasure of de-facing the rebellion leader). With help of a tortured member of the militia, the bounty hunter and his team ambush and massacre The Antichrist camps, though manages to capture the leader. She is brought to the King's castle, where Ecbert is quick to finally remove the mask that has hidden the face of the militia for so long. He shockingly discovers the leader is in fast his estranged daughter, Editha.
8) Other Incest x Editha:
I'm open to other incest pairings with Editha WITH THE EXCEPTION of the brother who tried to rape and kill her. I'm open to the idea of perhaps another brother who was an illegitimate child of the King (perhaps was born of a slave or a maid). I'm also open to the idea of perhaps and Uncle or even a first cousin, which wouldn't be as disgraceful (in terms of marriage) in that time period.
9) Ragnar OR Rollo OR Other Viking x Editha:
Open to other ideas incorporating canon Vikings characters or even a non-canon/ OC Viking character. Send me your ideas!
One idea - perhaps when Ragnar/Rollo/Vikings/Norsemen return to Wessex to seek vengeance on King Ecbert, they stumble upon the Antichrist's militia camp, and confuses it for a camp of King Ecbert's men. The vikings surprise ambush the camp, and succeed in massacring most of the militia. Editha's beauty and skilled fighting technique raises the attention of the vikings leader (be it either Ragnar, Rollo, or an OC), who takes to fighting her himself. She loses her battle against him, though instead of killing her, Editha reaches out to him by speaking Norse. Confused as to why an Anglo-Saxon can speak in their homeland tongue, the leader of the Vikings army, spares her life, and becomes consumed by his curiousity.
9) OC/ Other x Editha:
If you have any other ideas, or have any other characters you'd like to play - I'd be more than happy to hear them! Don't hesitate to PM me with your own ideas/ plots/ characters!!!
