The clearly annoyed voice belonged to twenty-one year old Shinjiro Takeda. To say he was pissed at this moment in time was, unfortunately, a severe understatement. He'd been forced to kill his family several months ago and, if he didn't know better, Hell had frozen over. Or rather, it may as well have. While Shinjiro hadn't at all liked the act he had been coerced to do, he enjoyed the truth even less.
The same parents and sister he had known and loved for years were gone when he had returned from his training and duties in the US Army. When he returned to his hometown of Nagasaki, Japan, he didn't find a family. They were undead, zombies to be exact. Even to this very second, his head could only shake upon the revelation.
Wasn't this just something that was seen and done in various manga and video games? That had always been what he'd seen and thought for years. Never in his lifetime would he have begun to believe such a thing would actually happen.
That is, not until now.
But Shinjiro had been trying to force himself to cope with the harsh truth. Whether he liked it or not - and gods help him he didn't - he had to focus on one important thing now; the ability to live and survive. And that wouldn't be able to be accomplished if he kept up an emo-like mindset.
Nope. If anything, he had to be stronger than when he'd been put through his training routines. But he would also need something to help out with that; ammunition. Lots of it.
He had some spare bullets on and with him but not nearly as many as he'd prefer. So what better place to seek out what he needed than the shopping mall? There were too many pawn shops and other areas which were infested with the damned undead. And while this was no exception, it was also one of the more spacious areas.
Normally, this would sound like it would give the zombies a huge advantage. But to the trained young man, he intended to use any and everything against these bastards. And the multiple possibilities for hiding spots, areas to snipe them, or other things of the like would - he hoped - help greatly out.
A long, deep sigh left his lips as he stared at the front doors. For a while, he had just been standing, as if contemplating whether this was even a wise idea or not. He knew perfectly well the risks that would come with this newly assigned mission. But honestly there were few other options he had at this point. And no fucking way would he just lay down and be turned into these zombies. Not if he could help it.
"You've gotten this far ... " He reminded himself. "No sense in holding back now is there?"
When the mental reply that entered his head was 'No', he gave a nod to himself. Worse than that, he'd only allow the other zombies nearby more chances to catch up and find him.
Also, it hadn't been like he'd come here unarmed. Fuck no. He had a switchblade hidden in his jeans pocket, rifle back strapped to his back and pistol that his belt was keeping attached to hips. He hadn't grabbed his holster before leaving Japan so that would have to suffice for now.
In fact, that entered his mental to-do list; he'd look for a more official holster along with extra bullets.
With the sound goal repeating in his head, Shinjiro let out another sigh before his feet finally began to move. With each step, his heart quickened. As the doors automatically opened, his pulse quickened more. He moved swiftly yet trying to keep them somewhat silent. Onyx hues quickly began scanning around for the map within the mall.
Once he found one, Shinjiro would seek out the quickest path to something akin to an Academy store, something that would provide bullets and a holster. It'd be a 'grab and go'-like mission. Once he got what he needed, he'd be out of there.
Simple, right? Only in concept. But hopefully it wouldn't be too much trouble.
While his eyes continued to seek out the map, his ears remained alert for any out of place sounds. Another thing he wouldn't easily allow; for other zombies to ambush him with little to no warning. Hell and no.

Everything had gone to shit, the world was infested with the undead and JC was completely alone. She had come from New York in search of her two sisters even if she didn't believe they would still be alive. The woman needed some kind of goal though, something worth fighting for. Fortunately before she left New York she was able to stock up on supplies but her food, water and ammo were running low despite how much she had preserved it all. So here she was in a rundown shopping mall that was infested with the undead, luckily she was small and stealthy, she stayed hidden and didn't fire off her gun to draw attention to herself.
As she walked through the Target store within the mall she grabbed anything she needed like canned goods and bottled water as well as any food that was sealed. Unfortunately her backpack could only hold so much and she wasn't about to add anymore weight to her body then what was needed, it'd only slow her down and make it easier for the undead to catch her. JC could hear the groans and footsteps around her as she exited the store and entered into the main area of the mall, it also happened to be the most populated. "Son of a bitch" ,JC whispered to herself as she slipped by undetected. Just the sight of these things made her sick.
JC kept her eyes and ears opened as she continued to move and that's when she spotted him, he wasn't staggering or moving like one of the undead and he looked to be very much alive but he still could've been bitten so she kept a distance for the moment to study him. Slowly she pulled her knife out and crept towards him, with silent footsteps and swift movement JC pierced her knife through the bottom of one of the undead's jaw and snapped their neck for good measure before laying the rotting body down slowly. "If you're looking for ammo there's a Dick's sporting goods store a level up" ,she stated quietly. "Have you been bitten?"

Normally, it took a lot to even make Shinjiro flinch, let alone almost jump. But the abrupt sight and sound of a knife impaling through an undead that had somehow slipped his eyes made his hand grasp the handle of his pistol. By the time it came unattached from his belt, he heard a voice. To be more exact, it was feminine. Sure enough as he even turned around to gaze at the source, the onyx hues did indeed see a woman behind him. It was interesting to see one wielding a knife. Not that he believed in the old customs or that crap in which women were much more than housewives or similar concepts. If anything, Shinjiro was very pro-feminist and all for the fairer sex being combat-oriented. Hell, in times like this, they would need to be.
The pistol remained pointed lowered and towards the ground of the mall but still held firmly in his right hand. This person had hinted he very would could have bitten and had damn well nearly been ambushed. That alone genuinely infuriated and scared him, knowing that he had nearly failed in all the precautions which he had been careful about following. His head shook as he forced the thoughts to disappear for now. He was still safe, still breathing. And that was one of the more major things that mattered here and now.
"Yeah, that's exactly what I'm looking for actually." His own volume matched the woman's, hearing and realizing it would likely be a wise move to avoid gathering attention or more undead by being far too loud. "Tch, no no. Fair concern but no. I don't intend to ... " He had wondered about finishing the grim sentence but let the last part trail in his head instead.
But if I do end up getting bit, fucking kill me. I don't wanna be like one of these bastards ...
"What of you? You trying to get to any specific place?"
While they were both here, it seemed like a good way to kill two birds, no zombies, with one bullet. Yes, bullet and not stone. They were overrated anyways. But this way, he could help someone out and hopefully gain an ally in the process. Even with all the amounts of soldier training in this world, Shinjiro knew there was only so much he could do alone, only so many times he could continue to be lucky and avoid getting bitten. So .. why not start with increasing his odds of living now?
Even pride wasn't an overly good incentive. He'd gladly swallow it to continue to breathe and live as normally as possible.
"Got a name?" He added. Even if they went to separate stores, the possibility of still having someone who would side with him was enough to have asked. There was also a high chance she'd be like him; alone with few or no people that she cared for. A sad but likely accurate truth. That being said, companions were by far one of the most powerful things aside from firearms to own nowadays. Anyone with enough sense would realize this and try to use that to their advantage.
Or at least Shinjiro hoped so.
Regardless of where she would or wouldn't go, he began heading up the next level. Before reaching an escalator, however, Shinjiro stayed to the darkest possible corners, his steps keeping a quiet tone about them as he proceeded onward.

When the man confirmed that he hadn't been bitten JC gave him a nod then surveyed the area quickly. "Alright good" ,she stated quietly in response. Normally JC wasn't a people person but in a time like this it could be good to have someone watch her back and in turn she would return the favor. Living in Brooklyn most her life she had learned to survive, the streets where she lived were a nasty place to be, you were either the hunter or the prey and JC was far from prey and although the undead were a bit harder to handle then some rival gang full of punks she intended to stay a hunter, a survivor for it was all she ever knew.
JC let out a soft sigh when the man asked if she was heading anywhere specific then surveyed the area once more before answering, "I'm looking for my sisters, they moved here a few months before shit went down, I don't even know if they're still alive but now a days the only thing I have is hope to run on that and the fact that I don't wanna end up lunch for one of these fuckers" ,she replied quietly before again surveying the area.
"The name's JC" ,she stated before pulling her crossbow from her back and loading it with an arrow. When he began to move JC followed, crossbow pointed downward, "I'll cover you, we can head to the sporting goods store then I need to hit up the smoke shop a few more yards down, I have a bike parked outside when we're finished we'll take the east exit there's not too many of the fuckers over there I can clear it out pretty easily, don't fire your gun inside" ,JC continued.

Shinjiro was the same as JC; not normally a people person either. But he knew his limits. Liking them was an entirely different story but ah well. He mentally shoved the thoughts aside before giving his own nod to JC as she had addressed herself. He mulled silently over all her words, paying especially good heed to the advice regarding his gun. Until he could see about a silencer, Shinjiro supposed that if nothing else the switchblade could be used instead. Hell, she'd just proven they could work. The daggers came with the risk of usually needing to get up close but that bridge would be crossed when it arrived.
"Deal." He murmured softly, activating the safety as it went back underneath the same portion of his belt that he'd used. It took but a matter of seconds for him to pull out the switchblade. For now, he kept the sharp portion concealed. Unless he actually had to use it, he only wanted to be prepared for now. And since JC had proven she could handle herself, he silently hoped there would be little to no risk of needing to get up close to the undead bastards. That was more of their forte. Shinjiro's was mid to far-ranged, especially with the use of his guns he had on him.
Every now and again, he let his peripheral vision activate and ensure JC was keeping behind him. He doubted she'd be dumb enough to pull any stunts but hey. Better safe than sorry as they said. The concern was more than valid enough, especially with them having just met.
All the same, Shinjiro had to admit a few things of her to himself silently. If nothing else, she had done something few people could do, catch his attention easily. It genuinely impressed him. And that factor added on more strongly as his memory replayed how she'd stabbed the zombie and kept herself from getting wounded simultaneously. She didn't believe in the old stereotypes of women just being housewives or crap like that. He not only respected but admired that. Even now, some women refused to change their thoughts and minds with how to act.
As he found the nearest set of stairs, Shinjiro frowned lightly. This would be about as risky as firing his gun .. but it had to be done. His right foot moved first as it landed on the stone step. He waited a few moments, ensuring no one else had heard before putting his feet in front of one another. Steadily but surely, he was making progress and going up.
Thank fucking gods ...
Now if it could keep going smoothly like this, they could be in and out in little to no time.

JC kept an eye out as she followed the man towards the stairs. When she noticed him step silently as he walked up the stairs she smirked, it gave her confidence that the man knew what he was doing and that meant both of them would be in less danger as they moved through the place. A low clanging sound made JC stop dead in her tracks and turn around swiftly but silently, there was a walker approaching them pretty quickly. "Ciao fucker" ,JC whispered before an arrow went through the walker's head. She looked around the area to make sure there weren't anymore then continued to follow Shinjiro as she loaded another arrow into her crossbow.
When they reached the top of the stairs JC looked to the man, "Alright this floor isn't so bad, as long as we're quiet we should be able to get in and out quickly, I'm gonna grab some more arrows and blades while we're here, if you see anything that could be useful grab it by nightfall this place is gonna be crawling and I don't know when we'll be able to come back" ,she whispered. Without even realizing it she had offered to stick by him even after leaving the place.

Shinjiro was already damned as it was for having had to kill his parents. No way would he let himself sink further into the depths of Hell by just up and forgetting of all the skills the Army had so generously taught him. If anything, they were a good portion of what was keeping him alive. He'd understood this since returning home and seeing the new creatures that had taken residence on this world. It pained and infuriated him at first. But after having been able to do enough research, he wasn't feeling as guilty. After all, zombies were undead ... not even human. So the task seemed more akin to killing an animal, one that could make you one of their own kind at that rate.
And if that was the case .. so be it. He'd rather kill prey than humans. And the latter would only be done with damn good reason.
For a few moments, he almost feared he may have one. But no. The bolt flew by him and sank into another zombie. His own smile widened though it remained concealed as he didn't turn to face JC. "Not bad." He complimented softly, continuing to make the trek towards the sporting goods store. Simultaneously, Shinjiro inwardly cursed at himself. That had been the second bastard he'd nearly not heard. He was getting angry with himself. His eyes closed and before he moved onward, he tried to calm himself.
Letting his emotions get the better of him would only add more harm to the equation and further decrease his chances of surviving. Once he got a few brief but hopefully helpful enough moments to regain some composure, Shinjiro began to resume walking forward. The only thing which kept him in place were JC's new words. He didn't need but a few seconds to give her an affirmative nod.
"Will do. I've had a mental to-grab list in my head for a while. It'll only be a matter of finding them - or not on the off chance they aren't here - and completing the 'grab and go' task." Even as he repeated the plan in his head, it still sounded simple. But the very fact they'd already run into two zombies clarified it was only in concept. But hell with how competent the two were, it should be as easy as both - himself anyways - were thinking.
His mind, alas, wasn't on the realization of having gained an ally. That could wait. For now, he wanted to ensure the new companion would get out of here with him. Maybe after that, he'd consider celebrating. But until that bridge showed up, he'd remain mostly silent and very much alert. "Alright. I'll rendezvous with you near the front." And with that, he began heading towards the gun section.

Another smirk crossed her face when Shinjiro complimented her shot, "Thanks" ,she replied softly as they continued towards the store. She gave him a nod when he mentioned meeting back up in the front then made her way inside and headed towards the hunting section. When there she grabbed a few packs of arrows and tore them open before putting the arrows into the case she had slung over her shoulder. After grabbing the arrows she hopped behind the counter and grabbed a few blades and shoved them into her backpack before hopping back over the counter and making her way through the other aisles.
She decided to venture through the camping section to see if there was anything useful there. Fortunately there was, unfortunately she had no room in her backpack so she would have to grab another bag, something she didn't want to do due to the extra weight it would bring but she wasn't about to pass up kerosene, matches, lighter fluid, and flashlights especially when she had no idea when or if she would ever come across these items again. JC growled lowly to herself before grabbing a dufflebag that was lying on the ground, she packed it up quickly then surveyed the area before making her way to the front of the store.

Shinjiro's ears took note of JC heading the opposite direction. He hadn't been overly amazed. But it had been worth paying attention to, just in case. He wasn't expecting trouble until they tried to get out of here. But in case their odds suddenly shifted, he wanted to be ready to react to any abrupt noises that didn't belong to JC. As he let his eyes find the correct forms of ammunition, he couldn't help but feel like he was being watched. But not in a bad way, oh no. Far from it. It was welcomed actually. He wasn't usually the overly religious type but he did believe in a few things.
Spirits and ghosts were some of those aspects. And right now, he was pretty sure his family were helping him avoid the same fate that had found them all. "Thank you .. " He murmured softly, his mind unable to help but wonder if they would be able to forgive him. The only reason he would even begin to dare contemplate on 'Yes' being an answer was simple. They hadn't been themselves and they would have suffered if he hadn't done what had been necessary.
His hands trembled slightly as the flashback began to haunt him again. That single day was far worse than any amount of PTSD that the military activities could have began to give him. His head shook and another sigh passed his lips. "Get a fucking grip.... " He scolded himself before resuming the search for the correct bullets. It took a bit but only because there were many types of each firearm available. It did, unfortunately, make sense that they wouldn't immediately be easy to spot.
But when they were, he began holding as many boxes as possible. A frown crossed his lips as he realized ... he should have brought a damn backpack.
Oi, didn't JC have one?
His head glanced up in thought. She did ... didn't she? It was worth taking the risky guess rather than daring to spend far too much time here. It'd allow for many unpleasant opportunities and he didn't want to push his luck. At least five boxes were held within his arms, more favoring the rifle he carried. But he had gotten ammo for the pistol also.
"....Fuck!" He hissed lowly, redirecting himself quickly down the aisles. In his haste, he'd almost forgotten the damn holster. This would cost him .. but hopefully not too badly. More than that, he had enough faith in JC. Even with them having just met, she'd proven to be able to take care of herself pretty damn well. With any luck, she could do so for a few more minutes.

JC had no problem waiting for Shinjiro to grab any supplies he needed at the moment, she had the door secured and every now and then would survey the area inside the store to make sure no strays were lurking around. Her weapon of choice had proven to be a great ally during all the chaos, it was silent and she could reuse the ammo, that's if she could manage to pull it from the heads of the walkers she killed. As she stood there she began to plan their escape, her dirtbike wouldn't hold both of them and all the supplies they were getting and she wasn't going to leave another survivor, the only survivor she had run into so far to fend for himself. The earth was human territory, they were at war and although she knew they were outnumbered she intended to fight as long as she could to regain what was rightfully hers and the rest of mankind's, this earth didn't belong to the walker's it belonged to living, breathing, human beings and having someone that could possibly help her fight and survive was something she wouldn't pass up.
She looked down the halls outside the door as she continued to plan and noticed the smoke shop was slowly becoming more and more populated with walkers, "Fuck, guess I don't need a cig that bad" ,she whispered to herself before laughing inwardly. A smile came across her face as she figured out what to do, the east exit was now out of the question seeing as they'd have to fight through at least 30 of the undead just to get to it but the west exit was looking decently clear, there were about a dozen that she could see but she had taken out at least 6 of them at once while still on her own in New York so with two people it should be no problem to clear the exit and get outside to the security van parked near the exit and get the hell out of there.
They were average at best but finally Shinjiro did manage to acquire several holsters. He figured if more guns were ever acquired, they would be needed. So he slung six, three over each shoulder, before returning to the counter he'd placed the ammo upon. A low wince left as he grabbed the bullets. One box was light. Five or six, however .. yeah. The weight added up. But thankfully the military training had helped him keep in damn good shape. His dog tags lightly jingled under his tank top as he began heading towards the front. His steps stayed as soft yet swift as possible.
A low sigh of relief left as he saw that not only did JC have a backpack but a dufflebag also. "Oh good. We'll need that." He replied softly, kneeling beside her and setting the ammunition carefully down. They were far more important in priority than the holsters. Moving the zipper so it opened the bag up, he began doing a mental game of Tetris, seeing how he could fit everything in and still allow for the other items to fit in. As an idea formed, he began placing the bullets in first. They'd take up the most space just because of the amount of them.
After carefully placing the bullets away, he began helping do the same with the holsters, kerosene, matches, lighter fluid, and flashlights. The bag was a tad heavy by the time it had been loaded up. But fuck it. They'd need all of this.
"Since you already got one .... " He hoisted the dufflebag up, wincing slightly as the strap went over his left shoulder. "Alright .. so. Same plan or did another come to you by chance?" Shinjiro hadn't bothered questioning before due to bad timing. But he'd known from the get-go that there would be no way JC's bike would be a good idea. Even a damn child could comprehend that much. So hopefully she had found or thought of a way to get an actual vehicle, be it a car or fuck a motorcycle. The latter would be a tad annoying to ride upon with all they were carrying, yes. But at least it'd be better than a bike.
And that was when another thought dawned on him. "Oi, where are we gonna head to anyways? Got a place in mind?"

When Shinjiro approached JC watched as he began placing the things he had gathered into the dufflebag and when he picked it up and slung it over his shoulder she nodded, "Thanks" ,she stated softly before surveying the halls again. She took note of how he packed everything and smiled, "What I'd give to be able to play a nintendo right now" ,she joked quietly. When he asked if she had another plan she nodded. "Smoke shop is a no go, guess my addiction will have to wait but if we take the west exit there's a security van parked outside I came across I was gonna siphon some gas from it if there weren't too many walkers around it by the time I came out so I already checked the tank, it should get us a good distance from here, all we have to do is clear the west exit, there's about a dozen of the fuckers over there from what I can see, I figure we take them out get out the door and make a beeline for the van, if there's anymore outside we start firing the big guns to clear the car, we can get away easier in a vehicle so as long as we're inside the van it doesn't matter if the blasts draw attention to more of them, I've had my fair share of high speed chases in my day all of which I've gotten away from without a scratch or being put in jail so I'm pretty confident that I can get us away from a herd of walkers pretty easily" ,JC explained as she continued to survey the area.
"I figure we head out to Oxford, it's all woods and farm land, lower risk of walker attacks, find a farm, secure it and start planning for this war properly" ,JC began in response to his question about where they would be heading. "Alright....well....it's now or never....cover me" ,she stated before pushing herself away from the wall she was leaning against. She moved quickly but quietly, shooting arrows through the heads of a few of the walkers that were by the exit as she moved.
He gave a low nod of understanding. "So you're the smoker and I'm the drinker hm? I could gladly go for some sake soon if not now." He didn't drink unless there seemed to be a need or purpose. And given how things had been as of late .. oh yeah. Shinjiro was definitely overdue for some of the rice wine. "Mhm, any kind of game or more pleasurable experience would be much better than this hell hole. I'm not in much of a picky mood personally. But all of that can wait until we get the fuck outta here too." As JC went on to explain her plan, he exchanged his switchblade for the pistol. But after glancing down towards it for a few seconds, his head shook no slowly and he pulled the rifle off his back. Even though it was made for long range, it could work as a makeshift mid-range weapon decently also.
An amused smirk crossed his face as she hinted having experience with driving away from authority. It was genuinely difficult to get and keep Shinjiro's attention. But damn was this girl acing that task. A celebratory drink and smoke session would definitely be in order when they could get safe and find the respective items. He definitely wouldn't mind the company and at the rate it sounded like, the same could be said from her perspective.
But alas that too would have to wait. So for now, he tucked the thoughts away to the back of his mind and gave a nod. "Alright. Sorry but I don't feel like getting up close so ... I am gonna use this now." His ankles tensed and when JC ran out, he followed behind. He began quickly hinting and showing that he would make up for having to use the risky but deadlier weapon though. The apology came in the form of deadly accurate and precise shots, all for the head.
He was literally seeing targets upon each and every zombie they ran by. It was a more than fair enough analogy and metaphor. After all, one fuck up ... no. He didn't want to think on that. But needless to say, the accuracy Shinjiro was displaying suggested to JC he understood perfectly all the things that could go wrong if he dared miss.
While JC worked on keeping the area ahead of them safe, the Asian soldier continued to watch her back and allowed bullet after bullet to enter the skulls of any undead he saw.

When JC heard the gun shots she looked to Shinjiro briefly then to the walkers ahead of them, with his shooting as well as hers the walkers near the entrance were being cleared out quickly. Even though more of them appeared behind the two the chances of escape were still very good. The undead moved slower then humans and most of the ones that started to give chase had been a decent distance away. JC need only to worry about the ones in front of them and that's exactly what she did. "Come on you fuckers, come get you some!" ,she taunted before slinging her bow over her shoulder and pulling out her hunting knife.
As she reached the exit she ran straight towards two walkers that were staggering towards them, one hand piercing her hunting knife through one of their jaws, the other throwing a switchblade through the other one's head. When those two were down she tucked her hunting knife away and pulled out her pistol before kicking open the door and taking aim at the walkers around the van she had mentioned. Loud blasts filled the air as she fired, "Alright let's move!" ,she shouted before running to the van and opening the driver's side door. "Keep them of of me I gotta work my magic" ,she stated before throwing the supplies into the backseat. She then began ripping through the steering panel of the car to get to the wires she needed to start it, after a few moments the engine kicked on, "Whooo got a new car, come on let's get the fuck out of here" ,she stated before blowing another walkers head off then settling into her seat and shutting the door. JC kept shooting to make sure none of the undead got even a slight chance at catching either of them.

"Shit... shit, shit, shit..." Laila muttered under her breath as she ran, her hands gripping a wooden bat tightly against her lean body. She glanced over her shoulder, red flaming hair billowing behind her as she looked through the lenses of her glasses. And there they were--walkers--ever gaining despite their slow, lumbering movements.
Laila turned to look away from the ghoulish creatures as they ever pursued her. She knew they'd gotten her scent and that they'd stop at nothing until their teeth sunk into her supple flesh, consuming her whole while she screamed and writhed in pain before finally going lifeless... only to reanimate once more. To become one of them. A shiver ran down her spine at the thought. It was worse than anything she could imagine knowing she could die only to come back. Already she'd come so far. There was no way she was going to lose this battle. Not any battle. Not ever.
For a fleeting moment, Laila thought back to her old life back in San Diego, to how it had been with her father. Ugh. She wanted to spit as her mouth got that bitter taste in her mouth--something that always happened when she thought back about her dad. Snapping out of it and focusing on the now, she pressed on, forcing her legs to move and dig deeper. She had to get away, make it out of this nonsense. Silently, she cursed herself for lingering too long at the mall, but she'd wanted to see if she could find some supplies. After losing her car and having no choice but to leave her thing behind, one of the first things she'd wanted to get was a backpack and some basic necessities. Who knew how long she'd be on her own.
"Goddamn!" Laila whimpered as she suddenly got cut off. Terrified and frustrated, she swung her bat at the walker that barred her way. The bat met the walking corpse with a solid thwack, its rotting body falling backward, but she knew it would only stall it. The thing would easily get back up and be back after her. Her strike had only bought her time, precious seconds to hopefully get further away from the stinking bodies that shuffled and meandered ever closer, their groans a deafening roar she wished to never hear again.
More than anything, Laila wanted to drop to her knees, to scream out and slam her fists against the pavement. But she had no time to allow herself to process what was going on. Biting down on her lip, she pushed her glasses up on her nose and twirled around on her heels, readying herself to set off at a dead run. Without thinking, she began to sprint between the cars lined up near the mall's exit, her hope to confuse the walkers and make a getaway. As she dashed out into the road, she heard the engine and the screech of tires, the sudden sound of gun fire.
Laila let out a scream as the car approached, heading straight for her. She held up her arms and waved them frantically, tears suddenly falling from her blue eyes. "Help!" she shrieked, wincing in fear that she might get hit if not bitten by the zombies that were starting to overwhelm and surround her.

His smirk widened upon hearing he'd be the more focused gunner. Truth be told, it was definitely his preference. It'd allow him to focus on his forte - shooting - while she got them out of there. "No problem. Keep your eyes on the road and I'll keep my fingers on the trigger." Once the car began, he wasted almost no time in rolling his window down. He hadn't bothered getting his seatbelt on. His ability to react fast would help him out if push came down to shove. He began to take aim until the sensation of additional weight was felt still on him.
...Oh yeah, that's right ..
Deftly but carefully pushing the dufflebag off from over his shoulder, he turned back to adjust his aim. Bullet after bullet hit their mark. But a new sight soon came into view of his dark eyes and it was one he hadn't expected. Another woman. So ... there was another survivor here?
"Keep driving, JC. I got this."
Moving to the back, he opened the door, extended one of his arms out and helped pull the newcomer in. "Grab on and hold on tight. We're not stopping driving but we'll gladly take another with us." The more survivors the better in Shinjiro's eyes. He'd wait for her to use his momentum plus her own to pull her in. Once both were secured in the vehicle, he shot a few more bullets out before closing the passenger side back door.

JC was about to slam on the breaks as soon as she seen the woman in the road but when Shinjiro told her to keep driving then moved to the back seat she knew exactly what he had in mind and instead of stopping she swerved the car slightly to allow the man to grab this new found survivor. Once the woman was in the car JC glanced into the rearview mirror to get a look at her, "Have you been bitten?" ,she asked as she returned her focus to the road. Before the woman could answer JC spoke again, "Is that your only weapon?" ,she asked after noticing the bat then shook her head and reached over and opened the glove box, "I knew there'd be one in here" ,she whispered as she reached in and pulled a Beretta out and tossed it into the back seat towards Laila. "If you don't know how to use one you better start practicing".
Pressing her foot down harder on the gas JC swerved through abandoned cars until she reached a turn and took it, "Fuck these main roads they're too crowded, we'll take the scenic route" ,she began before letting out a laugh. "Hope you like the country cuz that's where we're heading sweetheart, just hang on tight this is gonna be a hell of a ride".

Laila took a hold of the one man's hand as he reached out toward her. How she got this lucky, she had no clue. But she wasn't about to question it either. Time was passing and the walkers were surrounding her. Any bit of hesitation could mean life or death, could be the difference between whether she made it into the car or ended up one of them. With adrenaline pumping through her veins, she allowed her momentum to get herself into the car and onto the seat. She took one second to catch her breath, her blue eyes clamping shut as she said a silent thanks to whoever or whatever was out there that might listen.
When Laila opened her eyes, she looked at the man sitting next to her and then forward at the woman driving. Letting out a quick exhale, she turned back toward the man and muttered. "Thanks. And no, no bites." She licked at her lips as a gun was thrown back her way, landing squarely in her lap. The thing was a bit bigger than the pistol she had on her hip. But that was fine by her. Picking it up, she gave both a nod and shoved her red hair over her slim shoulders. "Practice makes perfect," she then mumbled, her heart pounding hard.
More than anything Laila was grateful to be in the company of others. Her thoughts had been growing darker over the past few days so knowing others would be around definitely eased her mind a bit. It would be nice to have others to talk to, to distract her thoughts, to have her back while she had theirs. It also gave her hope. If others were around maybe Jenna was somewhere too. She just couldn't bring herself to believe her friend hadn't survived this hell.
Shaking her head, Laila held the gun ready and braced herself for the trip to wherever it was that the woman planned to drive to.
