Blood shot grey eyes stared at the monitor in front of Jason Grave. He had spent four years working the Citizen Registration Department of the Supernatural Creatures Affairs Bureau and had learned to hate the season change.

The city works department employed several hindered Fae from the counts of winter and summer as seasonal workers, and every time the seasons changed new work visas had to be processed for the incoming workers and every outgoing worker had be accounted for, and that was always where the problem began.

Every time this happened there were select individuals within the city works Fae who decided they didn't want to go back to their own realm, finding some reason to stay in the mortal world. Those one always caused headaches for him.

Jason leaned back in his chair, running a calloused hand down his stubbed face then through the shaggy head of sandy colored hair that topped his head and reached for the cheap paper cup on his desk, taking a swig of the cold coffee and cringing as he swallowed before looking to the empty desk across from his, wondering what was holding up his partner.

Liadan (LYAH-dan) walked through the building, studiously ignoring the looks she received from many of the more...human employees present. She had worked at the Citizen Registration Department for quite some time but they still leered at her as if waiting for the moment she would show her true nature. She was an average height, with a curvy build common to her race. Her hair hung to the middle of her back in loose curls, bouncing against her shoulders as she walked. At the moment it was raven black but when she was forced to use her power it would gradually turn stark white, the saturation dependent on how much power she was required to use. Her eyes were by far the most striking feature on her, a brilliant violet colour that seemed to be lit with some inner light.

Today, and everyday she worked here, she was dressed in a modest outfit. Plain black slacks, heeled ankle boots and a red camisole trimmed with lace under a matching black blazer that was fitted to her curves and ended just at the hips. She looked every bit the professional working woman that was portrayed in western media.

She made her way past the expectant looks to the office she shared with Jason hoping he wouldn't berate her too much for being late. It was an important season for them and already she was slacking...she really hoped he wouldn't require an explanation as she did not want to provide one. As she stepped into the office and closed the door, Lia gave the man behind the desk a wary glance. He looked exhausted, he usually did during this time of the year. "Morning." She murmured, eyes avoiding his ever so slightly.

There was a problem that came with working along side a succubus and that was, weather she knew it or not, she eminaited an aura that instantly brought on a near overwhelming wave of lust and had been forced to learn to fight it back. When Lia arrived he quickly averted his eyes back to the stack of paper work on his desk, taking another swig from the cold coffee, trying to keep his mind occupied with anything other then the powerful urge to throw her down on the desk and take her right there.

An unlit cigarette found its way between his lips from the back in the breast pocket of his white shirt, and he sucked savagely at the filter, trying to suck the nicotine out to help his nerves.

"Nice of you to show up..." he muttered still refusing to look up from his paper work.

It was a sheer force of will not to grind her teeth at his reaction, even though he had learned to be very subtle about it. Her own nature drove her crazy, it affected anyone who got close to her even when she was reining it in. Any strong urges were reflected back at her, causing a never ending cycle of tension between herself and Jason. "Sorry I was late..." She said in a non committal sort of tone, sliding into the seat behind her desk and flipping through the papers stacked there.

Once a month, Liadan had no choice but to feed on the energy that sustained her kind. She hated it...but a month was the longest she could go without turning into something worse than a monster. Her reason for being late involved that feeding. She never killed anyone, never targeted anyone she knew...she simply went out to a distant bar and found a stranger. It made her feel disgusting but it was as necessary as breathing for her survival and the safety of the humans around her.

"Shit happens." he replied shoving a stack of files across the table, "Last night's scheduled departure list for the seasonal Fae along with the ones for the last week, we've had a grand total of six-teen no shows. No traces of them. Sent uniform over the housing complex for the seasonals. The apartments for the missing where untouched. All belongings still there."

He leaned back, folding his hands behind his head and turning his attention towards the ceiling to not stair directly at her, "Ran the names, two of them where involved in that Brothel scheme from two years back, another four where fake names, so I couldn't get any real leads on them."

Lia blew out a breath at the total number of names. Sixteen was a fair bit to deal with, especially if they already had prior marks against them. Some of the Fae that ran while on seasonal duties simply wanted a better life away from the protocal of Fae courts and societies...many others however wanted to see what sort of havoc they could wreak on the general public. "Any really big threats we need to find first?" Asked scanning the list with a pensive expression.

The two involved in the aforementioned scheme should probably be a first priority but some of the races listed could be problematic. Some Fae were good, some were not, most weren't inherently evil but they had a natural affinity for causing chaos and some required humans (for various reasons) to live. Her first run through the list nothing particularly nasty jumped out at her so she looked up at him, her violet eyes fixed on him as he leaned back and gazed at the ceiling.

Jason felt a chill work down his spine when he felt her eyes upon him and bit down on the end of his cigarette, "As far as I can tell the biggest issue are the brothel guys. But even then they're small pieces of shit. The ones on fake Visa's bug me but its hard to say if they're worth worrying about. But that numbers got me thinking something else is going on here."

He swung his sneakered feet up onto the corner of his desk, still not taking his gaze away from the ceiling, "but the nine million dollar question is what?"

Lia frowned and looked back down at the list of names, her unnerving stare safely away from him again. "Sixteen is a lot..." She pondered over things for a long moment. "Perhaps if we can find a few of them we might find out." She stated rising to her feet and grabbing the list. "If something odd is happening here we need to find out." A grin finally slipped across her face, completely changing her expression from a somber professional to the charming Fae she really was.

Jason swung his feet back down from his desk and pushed himself upwards, stretching himself out after spending most of the night wedged behind his desk and scooping up the weather beaten biker jacket slung over the back of his chair.

"Well these things don't solve themselves if we spend the whole day sitting here with our thumbs up our asses we're never gonna find him."

A pair of mirrored sunglasses and leather driving gloves where slipped from inside his pocket and dawned, another trick he had learned to defend himself against her charms. His notepad was shoved into his coat and headed towards the door.

She followed him out of the house ensuring she stayed a pace away from him. Since working with him she had always made sure to avoid touching him, the pair had barely even shaken hands for fear of what would happen if skin came into contact with skin. Her eyes slid to the gloves he wore and she gave a weary inward sigh. It wore her down that they could work so well together but were forced to stay so far apart. There were no amiable pats on the shoulder, no hugs between them after a job well done. People took all little physical gestures that happened through out a day for granted but she noticed the lack of them.

Pushing the thoughts aside they made their way out to the car park and she hoped into the passenger side of their vehicle. "Where should we head first? The two brothel jerks, they will probably be somewhere with a lot of women." She commented idly.

Jason fired a cigarette as they exited the building before settling into the unmarked cruiser, "I'm thinking we start with the housing complex, see if we can find anything the uniforms may have missed, ask a few questions. See if we can't get a lead on these guys."

(yeah, lame I know.)

Lia shrugged as she buckled the seat belt. "Whatever you think is best." She said with a small grin at him, though she didn't leave her gaze on him long. Her eyes swiveled to the window watching the buildings and people flicker past them as they drove towards the housing complex.

Jason cranked down the window, letting the fall into into the car to steal away the smoke trailing from his cigarette. As brief as it was he still felt her gaze upon him and a chilled worked it way down his spine that was less then natural and he caught himself wishing he had thought to hit the locker room and grab a cold shower before departing.

Outside the city crawled by, the seasonal Fae going about their business in grey jump suits, getting to business of changing the leaves to their vibrant shades of reds and yellows before the inevitable dull browns would set in and the leaves would tumble to the ground. A thought fumbled its way through Jason's head and he found himself rummaging through his jacket pockets wile one hand kept the car steady, searching for the spiral bound notepad he had snatched from his desk when they left.

Several car horns blared as he accidentally swerved into the next lane, "Watch where you're going ya fucks..." he shouted out the open window before finding the illusive pad and paper, bracing it against the wheel and scribbling something down wile continuing to contole the car with his knees.

"I'm gonna run a search when we get back to the office, see if anyone from the inbound groups hasn't showed up to their placement yet."

Lia's heart leaped into her throat as the car veered into the opposite lane. Almost instinctively she grabbed the wheel, pulling the car back towards the proper side of the road while he steadied it with his knees. She shook her head, the black curls bouncing with the motion as he screamed out the window at what he perceived to be the offending drivers.

"Jason can you please...just watch the road." She muttered a bit darkly, feeling very tempted to snatch the book out of his hands. He was so reckless sometimes she could just throttle him. "Don't you think we would be notified if anyone had skipped out on arrivals?" She asked as her heartbeat returned to normal.
