A stern looking business woman stood before the newly purchased house, her greying brown hair tied up in a bun atop her head, steel rimmed spectacles making her slightly wrinkled face seem strict and somewhat menacing. Receiving the papers and swiftly scanning the print, she scrawled her signature down with a flick of her wrist. Nodding her head curtly at the movers, satisfied with their job. Most of the larger pieces of furniture had already been moved but a few cardboard boxes stacked up by the front gate remained on the street.
Avery Gately was a successful businesswoman, climbing the corporate ladder ever since she rejoined the workforce after her husband’s passing three years ago. Her work hours long and strenuous, she seldom managed to return home, but her love for her only child was immeasurable. Unfortunately Avery’s schedule was as busy today as it always had been, and she had to return to work immediately after confirming the arrival of her furniture. In fact she’d returned during her lunch break, a lunch break which was soon going to end. Giving her daughter a quick apology and the keys to the house, Avery got in her car, and was gone several minutes later.

Smiling uneasily at the two men who offered her luck, and then a more genuine smile as her mother too departed the scene. Cerulean blue eyes looked warily at the large stack of boxes she’d been left to carry. A silent sigh escaping her as she looked up and down the street, making sure there weren’t any suspicious people waiting to grab a box the moment she went inside.
She stood still for a few more moments, her shoulder-length brown locks swaying in the breeze before she reluctantly moved over and picked up one of the smaller boxes. Only to let out a small squeak of surprise, nearly dropping the box when it turned out to be heavier than it looked. Regaining her balance, she quickly walked the small distance to the front door, checking the box before heading to the living. Placing the box in the far corner before heading outside again to continue the laborious work by herself.
