“Are you ready, Little One?”
Karina Anova’s gaze shifted in the full-length mirror to lay upon her mother, who stood in the doorway behind her. A little smile curled her cherry lips at the mention of her nickname. Kari had been the runt of the litter…and so her parents had seen it fit to give her a name that meant “Little One.” Though…standing at 5’7”, she’d grown up nice and tall and healthy. Coupled with a lean, toned body, it would be hard pressed for anyone to identify her as a runt anymore.
“Yes, mama…” Kari replied after a moment; taking time to smooth her dark purple locks for the 15th time. Nervous about being thrown into an arranged marriage with a complete stranger, she was as ready as she was ever going to be. Even though her new wife would have to like her and please her…Kari hoped that they would grow on one another and their relationship would flow naturally rather than be something that was forced. And so she had gone through great lengths to look nice today. Freshly bathed with her hair meticulously done up to show off her regal neck and her delicate jaw and in a lovely white dress with red accents, she felt ready to meet the stranger that she was to be bonded to for the rest of her life.
Today marked the day where she would meet her new mate for the first time. A girl who her parents had tried to convince her would be a good match. One with exotic looks that more than made up for her poor social standing. The Anovas were a rich, noble family. They didn’t need anymore money or land. But good genetics and beautiful grandchildren…that was something that every rich family could use more of. All of her siblings had already been married off to families of equal of higher standing, and now it was Kari's turn to do the same.
And so Kari followed her mother, Lady Anova, out of her own bedroom, down the hallways, and into the grand room with plush coaches and roaring fireplaces where they entertained guests. Her heeled boots clicked softly as she walked, the soft fabrics of her dress rustling against one another as she moved.
Her new mate was supposed to be coming with her family soon…just the thought made her stomach flip flop and her pointed ears twitch in apprehension.
