Jon leant against the brick wall that surrounded the entrance to his school. His fingers expertly flicked through another page in the book, whilst behind his glasses his eyes scanned the page. He took in the words and information with a speed that would have been fast for most advanced post graduate students, let alone a 17 year old. Slowly, he marked the page at the end of the chapter and closed the book. He looked up towards the doors that led out from the school, then down to his watch and sighed. She did this all the time. She knew he would have to wait for his twin sister before he could head home and she would regularly take too long talking to friends before leaving.
He was not a popular person at all, in fact he generally struggled to communicate with people. Nor was he particularly good at anything athletic, evident from his skinny physique and science and history seemed to make far more sense than most TV shows. In fact, there were few occasions when he was truly happy, the main being when he was around his twin sister. He looked up to her, maybe it was because she had always been far more outgoing and confident, things just seeming to come more easily to her. She seemed to understand him as well, which was more than could be said for anyone else.
He glanced once more at his watch noting the time as his twin stepped out of the gates laughing and giggling with one of her friends. His face couldn't hide his frustration at having to wait around for her. Being forced to spend time stood out amongst so many people, when instead he could have been at home, in the safety of their living room or bedroom.
As the two girls approached him, he picked up his backpack, swinging it onto one shoulder. His sister's friend said her goodbyes, barely looking at Jon, before going her own way. He turned, walking out of the gate after his twin, muttering to her as they started the short walk to the small flat.
"Twenty minutes, you have all day to talk to people and you make me wait twenty minutes for you".
